Rich Chernosky Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 This is the last of the Revival kits in my stash. I was told this was one of their easier kits. After doing almost all of their line I was ready for something easy. Shouold have known better. It was anything but. The results are nice but getting there is an engineering challenge. this one is the Auto Union Type C , 16 cylinder rear engine car Bernd Rosemeyer drove in 1936/37. Kit features all metal construction with screws, real wire wheels and working steering and suspension. Once done there is a certain amount of satisfaction. More info in the picture captions. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Gotta take a picture of the chassis as it is a model all by itself. This is a mock up because the reas suspension had to be removed to get the body on. And suffice to say after all the fit problem and two days of swear words, it was not coming back off. Fitted body in the background. Engine cover and front cover are removable and fit fairly well...about the only thing that did. Front suspension looks a lot like VW. Getting it assembled and getting it to work was something else. This si where all that effort pays off...aaaahh..the finished car. There are 16 of those tiny tubes that fit on top of the exhaust headers. Getting them all to line up......Engine cover fits better than in the photo. This side view. There was lots of plumbing under the front engine cover. This is where the radiators and expansion tank are located. All of them had to be bent just so. Interior turned out nice. Thanks again for looking. 3
Hans1971 Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 The dinosaur of formula 1 racing. But what a nice thing !

1959scudetto Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Wow, Rich - assembling this kit must be almost as hard as driving the original.

Thank you Helmut...you are not mistaken. The cars were difficult to handle as they were very tail heavy. On top of that the enormous power meant that they could still spin the rear tires at over 100mph.
cobraman Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Nice work ! I always thought that car was interesting.
89AKurt Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Thanks for sharing. The FPPMODELOS 1/24 scale resin kit of the Auto-Union C made by Fernando Pinto Portugal is probably more difficult to build, so I feel your pain! This kit looks really nice, good detail on the suspension. You did a fine job with it. I got a book about these cars, they were ground-breaking engineering, and gave Mercedes a run for their huge budget.
Pierre Rivard Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Wow Rich, simply outstanding. Lots of beautiful detailing and impeccable finishing. Rosemeyer claimed that this car was very very fast but always "in motion" One little gust of wind was all it took to flip it over and kill him.

I would hazard to guess you have enough reference to do what you want. The box art for my kit had a very nice cut-away drawing and I saved it if you want. And...if you ever want a real modeling challenge and are a glutton for punishment some of these Revival models are still available. The company even has a website for ordering. Although Evilbay is cheaper by far. 12 hours ago, slusher said: Great build and nicely detailed! Thank you Carl 5 hours ago, Pierre Rivard said: Wow Rich, simply outstanding. absmiami Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Rich. Always liked these kits - but never liked the wheels - but now that we can get / buy / print 20th scale wire wheels - i think they would really make a difference - and you’re right about the panel fit - these guys are famous for poor panel fit …

Most of of my 12 Revivals have exactly the same wheels and tires. Luckily they are easily removed (screw construction) so if some decent replacements come along it would be no problem. This was just a case of I wanted to get the darn thing done and over with. It was a real test of my modeling skills.
absmiami Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Fernando Pinto may produce 20th scale wire wheels - i like his stuff - ive got a number of his 24th sc kits w wires - and you can buy his wheels seperately …
