cobraman Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Was surprised when I saw a photo of this version because I had never seen it . When I did I decided to try and build it . I was not able to find many photos but some of the fellows here were quick to post some . While not a perfect replica I think I got it kind of close . After I did all the mods I put it in primer and Tamiya Pure Red . ( not sure of the correct color of actual car ) Anyway it was time for decals and clear . I have been using the Duplicolor 1k clear and really like it . I had a couple coats on and it looked pretty good . But , as I am not one to leave well enough alone I decided to spray another coat . Bad idea . It crinkled in spots . I didn’t have anymore of the decals so I did not want to strip and start over . I wet sanded best I could and then put two coats of the Future on it . I used parts from two kits . AMT Cobra Roadster and the Sunny AC 427 mostly for the body . The side openings in the body needed to be filled . The roof is a modified unit from the custom roof in the AMT kit . It was modified by just using the front of the stick piece and using sheet plastic to make the roof longer and to create the side panels . Tires and wheels from the parts box as well as the decals . The rectangular hole was cut in the hood and the scoop was made with sheet plastic. Grill opening was modified . I did put an engine in it but glued the hood because the engine in these kits were not very good . I am pretty happy with it and it looks good if you don’t look too close . Seems no matter how hard I try I can always manage to screw something up ! Thanks for looking and reading this long post . 5
Dave B Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 That's a great build Ray, I have never seen it before. Tks for sharing. Dave B
TooOld Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 That came out great Ray , I'd display it in my shelf no problem ! I always screw something up too , I just don't tell anybody .
Rich Chernosky Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Nice job on that conversion Ray...the top turned out very well.
vamach1 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Nice job Ray. The modifications make the car look quite different from a stock roadster.
1959scudetto Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Interesting version, Ray - I have never seen that - obviously, somebody tried to optimize aerodynamics with this "breadvan-like" roof.
Gramps46 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Well done Ray on creating this really significant Cobra, especially as seen and raced in Europe.
cobraman Posted July 31, 2022 Author Posted July 31, 2022 Thank you all very much.By no means perfect but pretty good for me.
happy grumpy Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 First time I see a top on a cobra. Turned out real nice, your work sure paid off. BTW, I'm still to build a model without screwing something up big or small ?
Claude Thibodeau Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hi Ray! Nice, and unique. You are up to your handle:"Cobraman". Bravo! CT
Paul Waymouth Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Great work, this looks awesome. All my models have little imperfections too, we just don’t look too closely and just enjoy the process of building and displaying
Zippi Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Oh boy....that's pretty kewl looking Ray. That top really makes a difference. Nice job.
Bainford Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Cool Cobra, Ray. I've never heard of this car before. Nice work on the conversion.
cobraman Posted August 22, 2022 Author Posted August 22, 2022 Thanks much Trevor. I never knew about it until not long ago before I started this build.
