Dragline Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) Sort of a mini WIP since I've been so stoked to build this time machine I have not really been documenting my build. Like many here I have fond memories of this kit from my youth. Revell's reissuing this was smart, and adding a beautiful decal sheet and a few options make it a no brainer. Calling this a 2 in 1 is a serious stretch, and the posts lamenting the lack of the 5 hole wheels from the red car are an interesting read if you care to look. So Ill post this when it is complete, but I was so pleased with the look I thought I would show what I had been up to. I am adding a 6-71 with sctatch built pulleys. I am using a MCG PE set for the emblems and goodies it provides. I stole the Keystones from the Landy kit and while they are 1/25 they look surprisingly good. I am raising up the rear ever so slightly with some scratchbuilt coils and shocks. The interior is getting aluminum door panels, carpeting and the PE door handles and goodies. Fireball outer door handles in Molotow. Yeah I know.. The 80's called, they want their Chevelle back. Edited December 22, 2022 by Dragline 2
Zen Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 That's too cool, can't wait to see it finished. 1

Looking great so far!! 1

Plowboy Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I'll be watching Bob! I built one years ago. But, I want another one to build like the original Monogram box art. I even have the flame decals saved. 1

My memories of this kit ...I painted white (1st issue molded red) turned pink. If you really want the 80's to call for their Chevelle back!....don't forget to add the prism tape! I rather "like" your graffics on white!! Looks FAST already! 1
Dragline Posted December 22, 2022 Author Posted December 22, 2022 Now I have to find scale prism tape! Thanks Khils.....?
disconovaman Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Totally 80's Dude! and for me it will never be out of style... To me It's timeless, loved it then, love it now. You mentioned the awesome decal sheet and I agree what I see there is welm of possibilities. Maybe that's the 2 in 1 explanation only there's enough decals for 3 or more options I'd say. The blue stripe decals are reminiscent of the Dobberton Chevy II and perhaps the car that started the Pro-street movement and widely recognized as the first tubbed street car commercially. I'm planning on using those on the Mobious hard top and building my version of that car. This build here is giving me plenty of inspiration in the meantime....?Carry on then. 1
Dragline Posted December 25, 2022 Author Posted December 25, 2022 (edited) When I saw those blue stripes the Dobbertin car was first thing that popped into my head. The colors are about bang on. The only thing is they are in reverse order dark to light. I got the Chevelle up on 4. The stance is right where I want it. Edited December 25, 2022 by Dragline add photo 3
mustang1989 Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Cool paint scheme Bob! Love the overall look of this car as well brother. 1
James2 Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Righteous Retro Chevelle, love those old paint schemes. 1
chris chabre Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 thats KILLER!!!! Growing up in that era has me feeling nostalgic 1
TooOld Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Love those colors and the stance looks perfect ! Your extra details are gonna make this one a real winner ! 1
Zippi Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Pretty kewl looking Chevelle Bob. Those wheels & tires look nice. 1
Andy Oldenburg Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Looking HOT!?? Eager to see the finished model! 1
Dragline Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Thanks fpr all the kind comments fellas. I am really feeling this one for some reason. I miss my old Vega, and those thoughts are what guide this project. Motor is just about done with fuel and electrical finished. I cannot find the PE fret that has all the carb accesories on it. That has all the throttle bits I need. I have a small bag with bits floating in it and there may be enough there to do it. Also, this kit doesn't come with coolant hoses or a master cylinder. A quick rummage through the parts box and some scratch building took care of the glaring issue. Edited December 27, 2022 by Dragline
Dragline Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) I'm going with these triangular Weiand air filter housings. These were all the rage at one time and are just what the Dr ordered. Idler pulley and bracket are drying and all that is left is a belt and the motor is done. Master cylinder will be installed once this assy is in place. Edited December 27, 2022 by Dragline
Dragline Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Final mock up before I put it together for good. The belt, fan and hose are all in a very tight area and my eyeball engineering held me in good stead. I scratched up some arm rests so all I have left is to install the rest of the interior goodies. Time to button this up because I have The Rodfather on the bench next and I am itching to start that. It's been a sorta Grail for me and Bob (TooOld) hooked me up with a decal set and I have a Tweedy Pie on standby. Thanks for looking in on my Chevelle. It's a plastic time capsule of an era I cherish in my life. I know many here were also there and have fond memories. Edited December 27, 2022 by Dragline add pics 1
Dragline Posted December 30, 2022 Author Posted December 30, 2022 Last post before it goes in the finished section. I have a set of 70 Chevelle mirrors drying that I'll slap on later. PE scripts, door locks and handles are done. I scratched up an antennae because I never put them on my builds but felt it was a nice touch on this car. All that is left is the hood and that looks like it may need some extra work. The attachment areas just dont seem right. It will be a hassle it seems. I will get it but it will take some effort. This was a fun reach into the past in plastic. 1
