Repstock Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 This is the rarest kit I have. The Tow truck to go with KMCs old 1/72 727 kit. 1

I first saw this in a catalog (remember those?), then never saw it again, anywhere. On a fluke, saw it on eBay and won the bid. Trouble is, it's missing the front suspension uprights, and the seats. I can fabricate those. This weekend I snatched up this Lexus, which is another scarce kit. I want to cast a resin copy of the engine, which is what the Boyd car had. Another someday project has a better chance. I have a couple of those Sportstar kits. Also the Divco truck, Astro van and the boat tail Riviera. Looking through your posts I seem to have a lot of the same kits you are picturing here. 1
Richard Bartrop Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) I have a Renwal Revival Stutz in need of some restoration, but the rarest styrene car kit I have is probably this MPC reissue of Airfix's Mercedes 280 SL. I've seen it maybe once on eBay, and I've never seen one assembled. The very rarest one I have has to be FPP's resin Bluebird. Edited April 20, 2023 by Richard Bartrop 5
NOBLNG Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Some of these poor models have been waiting a long, long time to get built, so….get on ‘em Guys!? 4

Just need to find it. Not sure if it is exact. Thanks much for the offer. But these are 1/24. I remember building the 1/32 Stampede funny car when I was a kid. Loved that thing!

The Jeep was only issued the one time like this with the snow plow and off road equipment together. The Chevette was a one year only, I believe it was updated to a '79 which had a different grille and options. Cool Jeep kit. The Chevette I remember seeing in stores in my youth years but never built one.

I have several unbuilt versions of each kit. I also have several Chevette promos, not sure what's wrong with me but they find their way to my collection!
1959scudetto Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Of my styrene kits my most valuable is this 1/9 Protar bike kit (got it from my brother for my 60th birthday) - try to find one on ebay ! and the rarest ones are certainly these from the late 60'/early 70's: Rarest resin kits: John F. Johnson's Ferrari 246 SP and 5 kits from Paul Fisher (Chaparral 2 F, Ferrari 512 S longtail and Sunoco 512 M, Porsche 917 "Hippie" longtail and 917/20 "Pink Pig") 5

StevenGuthmiller Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 MPC 1966 Dodge Monaco. This one will take a little work to bring it back, but all in all, a pretty solid candidate for a restoration. Steve 3

Carmak Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 AMT 1955 3 Car Paint and Assembly Kit. Essentially three unassembled promos. The Ford and Cadillac unbuilt, the Buick missing. I have three built cars from a 1954 3 Car Set (Ford sedan, Buick sedan and a Pontiac Hard Top) and I have seen a 1953 3 Car set. 5
Dave Ambrose Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Lots of great stuff here. My rarest kit is probably my JoHan Chrysler Turbine car. Got it some years ago at what I thought was a fair price. They seem to have gone through the roof while I was sleeping. As for the rest of my stash? Probably fairly prosaic. 1

Mothersworry Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 MPC Ford GT40 MKIV with trailer. Complete mint kit. 4
Dave Van Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 One more to add. With all the talk of a big Ford kit going around. Dug this one out and took photo. It's a AMT kit imported to UK by FROG. Plastic is the same but box and crazy decals are all FROG. KINDA a Wood Bros car, they never ran one and the numbers are rainbow with black roof not candy apple red. Paid $80 for it in the 1980's....a lot back then. Still a good deal. 3
Daddyfink Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 A few things laying around that I think might be a bit rare these days. 4
Spottedlaurel Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 For me, probably this one: Random purchase some years ago off eBay here in the UK. Never seen one here before or since. Whenever I've looked more recently any others I can find for sale are a 3-figure sum. Only one I could see right now is in the USA at $200, and others in Japan in the past were more than that. It's now one of the few unbuilt kits that lives in the house, not the garage. 2
