NOBLNG Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I just finished this one. Although it is a really beautiful kit, I had bad “luck” with it.? I have never screwed up more minor stuff as I did with this one. I ruined the hub caps trying to paint them so I made up some Rudge wheel adapters for it. Paint is Tamiya LP-15. Anyways, thanks for looking. 9
70 Sting Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Looks really nice to me. Your issues don’t show and that was a nice save with the wheels.
happy grumpy Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Whatever the issues were, it doesn't show. This is a beautiful build. I have this kit and I can't wait to start it. I love the dark color and the nice interior.
SpikeSchumacher Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I agree with everyone else, nicely done! I find for myself sometimes the more that I try to build a kit "perfectly", the more issues I have. The ones I build with the intent of just having fun sometimes turn out better...
Zippi Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Good looking model. I really like that laqcuer paint color. Turned out really nice looking.
drodg Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Very nice build. I need to build that kit. Congratulations
Steamboat Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Wow! Does the kit come with the hardware for the gull wing doors? That's a really nice touch.
papajohn97 Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 I love the dark grey over red, very understated and the overall build quality is excellent, really clean neat workmanship. Your window frames on this one (painted or foiled?) are fabulous. Where did you get the Rudge wheels? They look great and give this gull-wing a racier look than the kit wheel covers. This Tamiya kit is one of the very best auto kits out there, I built one when they were first released and ordered a second to build again because it was such a fun stress-free modeling project. Bravo!

The issues I had were because of my own clumsiness and impatience. 56 minutes ago, Steamboat said: Wow! Does the kit come with the hardware for the gull wing doors? That's a really nice touch. Yes Bill, it comes with the hinges and the little prop rods for holding the hood and doors open for display. 1
Gramps46 Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 As the others have said a really beautiful build of an iconic car. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Bravo! Thanks John. I didn’t get too close with the camera though.? I foiled all the window frames although they supply masks for painting the rear quarter window frames if desired. I scratch built the Rudge wheel centers and glued them on in place of the hub caps. Edited April 19, 2023 by NOBLNG 1

1959scudetto Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Very nice build, Greg - I can't see any issues here. Great idea with the Rudge enter-lock wheels !
Dominik Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 beautiful. really beautiful. the color is it, that makes it special. not always silver is needed. well done!
beeRS Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Very nice indeed. I rather like the Rudge wheel centres. Nice to see a different colour too.
Ulbo Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Very very nice and clean built? On the left side is written Mercedes Benz is it decal or how did you get this crisp detail? Thanks
Bainford Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Beautiful Merc, Greg. I like the dark grey, and it looks great with the Rudge style wheels. Very nice!

The Mercedes badge is photo etch that is included in the kit along with the badging on the trunk, dashboard and steering wheel.
