JollySipper Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Porsches are meant to be handling cars, not drag racers........... 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 928s, like most sports cars, got to the point where they were so cheap, particularly after having heavy mechanical failures or body damage, that many of them ended up getting gutted for parts, or rodded. There's one here in town with an alloy big-block Chevy in front and a Ford 9" out back. Though the drag car may seem to be sacrilege, I'd personally rather see it like that than put through a shredder to be melted down for its steel content. 6 1
stitchdup Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 it makes perfect sense, have you seen the price of porsche v8 parts? 3
NYLIBUD Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Pretty insane car.It amazes me some of the cars that people turn into drag cars…While we are on the subject, any idea what that thing runs in the 1/4?I see by the windshield sticker, that the car raced in Florida’s Sick Week(kind of like Drag week, except it’s all in Florida)From what I know, there are some outrageous drag cars that compete during Sick week, and they are all street legal.
iamsuperdan Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I've been a long time Porsche fan. And I love the 928, but depending on the year and condition, these can be 6-figure cars...or scrap. If it's an early model (pre-86) and the engine has failed, then it's pretty much junk. Might as well do something interesting with it, to keep it from the junkyard. 2
espo Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 There was a time not too long ago the 928, even a running and driving one, was going for far less than what they should have been worth. Not sure they ever got the respect and acceptance that it deserved since it was a front engine, water pumpers. 1
TransAmMike Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 I'd be willing to bet the body is not real Porsche. Kit body.

If you're referring to the 550 Spyder, well...yes. A REAL 550 will go for north of 2 million bucks even as a basket case, whereas a fiberglass replica can be had for around $30 thousand in kit form with no guts, cheaper if it's been bodged. Far as 928 replicas go, far as I know there has never been one...other than this horrible mess... https://www.carscoops.com/2014/11/darling-i-shrunk-porsche-928-brazilian/ Edited July 1, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy 1 1

89AKurt Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Someone with money to burn, keeping the economy going is a good thing. My first issue of Road & Track was the introduction of the 928, on the cover of course. I was bummed, and I never wanted to get a kit of it either. G00gle's AI: Porsche built just over 61,000 928s worldwide. Porsche stopped making the 928 after the 1995 model year due to poor sales and the fact that it didn't share components with other models. Chevy built over 220,000 of my '68 Chevy C-10s, the value of perfect restorations is ridiculous. The 928 just isn't a cult vehicle, so don't be upset. 2

JollySipper Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 I wouldn't have done this to this poor Thunderbird either...........

rattle can man Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 No offense to Porsche lovers, but I never thought someone could make them even uglier. 1
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Same reaction I have when I see someone butchering an American car from the 50s or 60s. Why should Porsche be immune? Steve
