WillyBilly Posted July 4 Posted July 4 (edited) I would say mine is the 1984 Corvette. I spent all of 82, and a bit of 83 waiting on the 30th anniversary 1983 Corvette to debut. I even purchased a magazine in early 1983 devoted to the all-new 1983 Corvette. Unfortunately, GM had enough setbacks to push the release date too close to the 1984 order window, the 1983 Corvette would not be a thing. This also gave GM a chance to decide to scratch the base 15" wheel before the all-new Corvette hit showrooms. 40ish cars were built for 1983 but never sold to the public. Only one 1983 Corvette still exists and is on display at the Corvette Museum. 1984 marked the only year Cross Fire Injection would exist in a C4 Corvette. It was a lousy system that needed to die a horrible death, but the air intake on the C4 was well engineered. It took fresh air from duct work molded into the clamshell hood.  Today I have a few 84-85 C4 model kits in various sizes, and the same magazine devoted to the all-new 1983 Corvette. I have owned many fast American and Australian cars, but never a C4 Corvette. I test drove one once and hated how low the seating position and the entering and exiting thing was a pain. But I still love the cars for what they were.             Edited July 5 by WillyBilly 4

EDIT: I took the question to mean "real world cars, not streeterized race cars, but that a semi-normal human might realistically strive to own". While we're at it (cost no object) I'd like a Miura, a first-series Countach, a factory street GT40, an Austin Healey 3000, a covered headlight E-type roadster, a factory 914/6, a 275 GTB4, and a Daytona Spyder. gtx6970 Posted July 4 Posted July 4 (edited) Im not a Sports car type persay  But I could live with a Ford GT40 - a recreation would be just fine or even one of the mid 2000s Ford GT would fit the bill. A 1st gen Viper GTS coupe could be a suitable substitute   I'll add , If money is no object an original Ferrari 250 GTO is numero uno. Edited July 4 by gtx6970 3
Brudda Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Ferrari P3 -4.  Only one converted for the street. Dean Martins son Dino Martin had a p-3 made into a street car.  Production car would be a corvette. Here is my 1:1. Have these also. Like them a lot. Heck I don’t know. 2
1972coronet Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I agree with the O.P.'s opinion on the C4's styling . I was in my early-mid teens when that radical design premiered - blew me away ! Too bad about the Miss-Fire fuel injection for '84. I remember being under the impression that TPI was going to be on that engine . Insofar as my favourite Sports Car is concerned : A friend's dad had a '71 Porsche 914 with a Chevy 327 in it. That car sat about a Post-It note off the ground ; its wheels were huge. He took me for a ride in that mother... Most frightening and thrilling ride ever ! Handled like it was on rails ; it was violently quick and mind numbingly fast, too. But, that thing was more of a beast than a Sports Car. I'll take a 1970-1973 Datsun 240Z , especially in Eurasian spec.Â
stavanzer Posted July 4 Posted July 4 By Far my favorite is the Jowett Jupiter. 1950-1954. Water Cooled Flat Four, Just under 1500 cc. Won it's class LeMans in 1950. I missed getting one when I was 18. I've always pined for one. 5

Shark Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Early C3 Corvettes. They had a very distinctive body that you wouldn't confuse with anything else. Engine wise, you didn't have to go to a high dollar specialized mechanic for any repairs and performance add ons were abundant.

Also, if I had a boat tone of money (ecen thoigh its more of a super car) I would go for a ferrari f40, specifically the LM. A regular f40 would also do it, wheels are a lot cooler on it. stitchdup Posted July 4 Posted July 4 most of these aren't sports cars, these are gt cars, not really sports cars. a sports car doesn't need to be fast, just feel like its fast which means brakes and handling, so i'll go for a bottom of the barrel lotus elise mk1 and embarass most of these on a twisty road, and then overtake again while your filling with gas, and with the toyota corolla enginr it should not need any maintenance lol  1 1

I have a 1984 Corvette brochure. picked up (I had to pay for it!) at the local Chevy dealer when the C4 first came out. Â
JollySipper Posted July 4 Posted July 4 My favorites are pretty easy for me to choose! There's several that I really like, but two stand out for me....... The Mitsu 3000GT and the Acura NSX! Neither car was anything really overly powerful, but the point was the handling....... Â 1

Most of them are ridiculously expensive, and I’m not much into stuff that is completely unobtainable by the average human being. That said, I do enjoy my 2005 Honda S-2000. If I had to pick a favorite, it certainly wouldn’t be anything modern. I don’t find most of them particularly good looking. Probably a 1956-1967 Corvette, a baby bird, or possibly a early 60s Jag. A later built, white or green one with the Ford 351 to be more specific. These things were made in my home province. Final assemble was about an hour from here and the bodies were made in my home town. Pretty awesome for a 10 year old car nut.
