First detailed look inside the box - Moebius 1964 Comet Pro-Touring

Here's a first look inside the box of the new Moebius 1964 Mercury Comet "Pro-Touring" kit. It includes a detailed look at each of the parts trees in the kit, as well as a step by step set of images of the assembly manual.

Other than pointing out that the kit includes an all-new, purpose-designed pro-touring style chassis/suspension/floorboard, I am going to forego any commentary here as I think the kit and its contents speaks for itself. I recommend you use the "roll view" feature at the Fotki album posted at the above link to quickly and consecutively scroll through the imagery of this presentation.

It's been pretty crazy busy here at the Boyd ranch this week but I will try to keep an eye here and respond to any follow-up questions you have. Also, be watching for a similar presentation on "K-Code" 1964 Comet factory stock (with day two mods) version of this kit tooling, which I hope to present here in the next 4 days or so.  And thanks to the Moebius team for giving us an early look at the kit contents, which should be available at your favorite kit source shortly.

I built the Modelhaus 64 Cyclone years ago.  This looks like a great kit to build.  Maybe take my 65 Cyclone kit that I have yet build and use the suspension components from this kit so the 65 doesn't sit so high .

I have a feeling there may be a lot of people who get this kit for the pro touring parts.  Initially I had no interest but this kit is growing on me.

About a year ago, I was in the process of building the AMT 64 Comet into a 427 Super Stock car. But, I traded the WIP for two 55 Chevies. I just might start that build again using either this kit, or the K Code kit. It appears I’d be re working the hood back to a flat hood, and adding a teardrop scoop. Everything else in the pics looks great. I’m waiting for my pre ordered kit to arrive from Wes’s Model Car Corner. I’ll most likely be purchasing another real soon.

I thought the same thing.  I looked at Tim's post and thought that is a pretty cool looking kit.

I can think of at least half a dozen kits in my stash for which that chassis and suspension would be a great fit so I’ll take one for the parts. The Weber carb intake option looks a bit disappointing and smaller wheel sets left over from the Revell California Wheels kits will definitely need to be adapted though.

Thanks Tim. I am definitely getting one of these and will likely build directly from the box which is saying a lot for me as I cannot remember the last time I had the urge to do so !!

These are already arriving at distributors so I'm quite excited to have them coming in soon. Seeing the box contents and now knowing that Moebius actually delivered on a ground-up Pro Touring release genuinely makes me happy.

I'm down for at least two of these, I've got a stalled project this might be just the cure for. One thing that slightly irritates me is the rear wheels. I love the big and little set but when the 3d model is just scaled up to make the rears bigger the bolt pattern doesn't match the front and it makes it look toy-like. Just a couple more minutes to keep the center at scale would have made the wheels much better.

From the photos,  this looks like another winner. I am more interested in the other version of the kit. I  pre-built,  but I haven't painted my stock 65 Comet Cyclone yet. I love the way it looks, after my corrections.

Well, I am not into the low profile "rubber band" tires, but these have decent sidewalls. Overall it looks great and it is one of my MUST HAVES!!!!

On a side note, a Dyno Don version would be spectacular!!!

Thanks Tim! That has so many cool parts in it, great for potential kit-bashing.

Now with the way Moebius is rolling and how they make so many variants of there kits, one can only hope for a better 64-65 falcon since they are essentially the same car when it comes down to the bones. Better than the Trumpeter in body proportions and better than the can get no more AMT kit.
