Best wishes to the magazine and the forum.  A while back when we were asked about recommending changes to the forum, I suggested a category on promotional model cars and trucks.  I hope that will come to fruition now.

I am OK with the advertising.  Yes, I agree it might be annoying to some, but one needs to look at the wider picture.

If it pays for the running of the site to enable  free access to all, I can live with the very minor irritstion.

Tiered subscriptions would only create an Us and Them situation depending on the depth of one's wallet.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what return value the paid tier access has to offer.

We do have some ideas we think will add value for paid members, and not just getting rid of the ads. Some have been asked about for a long time and some you may be surprised at. Suffice to say, Dave is pretty busy behind the scenes and there are ongoing discussions

Does this mean you might implement selling on the forum? Gregg never allowed it because it conflicted with his website for selling models. That is loooong defunct and we have a great community here. That and eBay is just a nightmare of fees and villains. It would be a welcome addition from my POV.

Yes and no.

We will always have free access to the site and forums, as we don't want to take anything away.

So for those happy with how things are now, rest easy. 

Having said that, we are planning a paid tier with some additional features. Mainly, ad-free. Plus there will most likely be some additional "members only" sub-forums. We're unsure what that might include at this time. 

 

We don't know what the magazine has planned it terms of an online presence.

We are not getting rid of the wanted or trade sections, but we do want to add a buy & sell section. Having said that, we know that can be problematic, so we're still discussing how this might work. We do know that it would be part of a paid membership, which would hopefully weed out the scammers and bots. Lots to sort out still.

Existing forum will not be archived, because it will continue to exist! It's getting a new address, and a slightly different look, but the content, past and present, isn't going anywhere.

Not aware of it. What is it Greg'swebsite for selling models named ?I

Direct buying and selling should be made available on the new website with suitable liability disclaimers that buyers and sellers have to adhere to.

Gregg's auction site was emodelcars.com

Enabling some kind of classified sales section is under discussion. There's a lot of background work that needs to be completed before that can happen.

I've been thinking about the new name and I'm questioning the word "makers".  To me "makers" seems to imply making a model from scratch, while most of us are kit builders.  I would think that "Model Car Builders" would be more appropriate.

I'd think the forum runners would want to avoid confusion with the unrelated Model Car Builder magazine, though.

Model Car Makers allows us to keep the MCM moniker that we all know. Keeps it familiar.
