bobthehobbyguy Posted November 25 Posted November 25 If the forum and the magazine are going to be separate entities will the Facebook page become the point for communications about the magazine?
Bill Eh? Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Congratulations to Model Cars Magazine and Model Car Makers forum, and all of those involved with both.
Motor City Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Best wishes to the magazine and the forum. A while back when we were asked about recommending changes to the forum, I suggested a category on promotional model cars and trucks. I hope that will come to fruition now.
TECHMAN Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Congrats to y'all!!!! Great news that things will stay "pretty much" the same, ever forward!!!! 👍👍 DJ
bbowser Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Evolve or perish, good news that we'll be able to share this hobby well into the future! 1
ZTony8 Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Will the new site be a paid subscription only site? Will MCM have its own forum?

Bugatti Fan Posted November 26 Posted November 26 I am OK with the advertising. Yes, I agree it might be annoying to some, but one needs to look at the wider picture. If it pays for the running of the site to enable free access to all, I can live with the very minor irritstion. Tiered subscriptions would only create an Us and Them situation depending on the depth of one's wallet. 5

stitchdup Posted November 26 Posted November 26 We do have some ideas we think will add value for paid members, and not just getting rid of the ads. Some have been asked about for a long time and some you may be surprised at. Suffice to say, Dave is pretty busy behind the scenes and there are ongoing discussions 2
Dragline Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) Does this mean you might implement selling on the forum? Gregg never allowed it because it conflicted with his website for selling models. That is loooong defunct and we have a great community here. That and eBay is just a nightmare of fees and villains. It would be a welcome addition from my POV. Edited November 26 by Dragline 2

We will always have free access to the site and forums, as we don't want to take anything away. So for those happy with how things are now, rest easy. Having said that, we are planning a paid tier with some additional features. Mainly, ad-free. Plus there will most likely be some additional "members only" sub-forums. We're unsure what that might include at this time. We don't know what the magazine has planned it terms of an online presence. 2 hours ago, Dragline said: Does this mean you might implement selling on the forum? Having said that, we know that can be problematic, so we're still discussing how this might work. We do know that it would be part of a paid membership, which would hopefully weed out the scammers and bots. Lots to sort out still. 6
DiscoRover007 Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Very cool! Will the existing forum be archived so we can search previous builds?

Existing forum will not be archived, because it will continue to exist! It's getting a new address, and a slightly different look, but the content, past and present, isn't going anywhere. 2
Bugatti Fan Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Dragline mentioned in his last post that Greg has a website for selling models. Not aware of it. What is it Greg'swebsite for selling models named ?I Direct buying and selling should be made available on the new website with suitable liability disclaimers that buyers and sellers have to adhere to.
steveracer Posted November 26 Posted November 26 As long as this forum stays nice and civil, and a sub allows to sell some of my stash I am interested in a paid membership.

Nice and civil are foundational principles here. They will NOT be going away. 2

Gregg's auction site was emodelcars.com Enabling some kind of classified sales section is under discussion. There's a lot of background work that needs to be completed before that can happen. 1 1
Bugatti Fan Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) Thanks Dave. Had a quick look. Appears that the emodelcars.com domain is up for sale for 395 dollars. Edited November 26 by Bugatti Fan
peteski Posted November 26 Posted November 26 I've been thinking about the new name and I'm questioning the word "makers". To me "makers" seems to imply making a model from scratch, while most of us are kit builders. I would think that "Model Car Builders" would be more appropriate.

I'd think the forum runners would want to avoid confusion with the unrelated Model Car Builder magazine, though.

Model Car Makers allows us to keep the MCM moniker that we all know. Keeps it familiar. 2
