martinfan5 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 As a builder, what would mean more to you, or be the biggest compliment for one of your builds, winning a award, or getting your build in a magazine?
jas1957 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Magazine for sure, over the years I've had a couple of my builds appear in magazines. Very cool feeling.
DumpyDan Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Ya magazine for sure, I had one in years ago. Just don't forget that one.
Daf57 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Either one would be a big thrill for me! Edited November 2, 2012 by Daf57
lanesteele240 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 one time i bought a magazine and looked at pictures of models. that was cool.
ZTony8 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 It's a toss-up.On one hand,it's a definite thrill to know your model was seen to be unique in some way and will be seen by thousands of people when looking at a picture in a magazine. It's also a thrill to have your efforts judged to be outstanding compared to other modeler's efforts either by people's choice (as in an NNL) or from being judged in direct competition. One way isn't better than the other, they're just different.
Cool Hand Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Magazine. Have 3 builds in my collection that have been in magazines,it was very rewarding to see them in print. Edited November 2, 2012 by Cool Hand
crazyjim Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I had 1 in the IPMS Journal and 2 in the 2012 SA contest issue. Firsts for me after all these years.
kurth Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Depends on the award .... If I won people's choice at the NNL east then I would be thrilled ... and be in magazines.
slusher Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 IT would be great to be in a Magazine, but it is also great to hear compliments of fellow builders.
mikemodeler Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Well, I don't take my models to shows so I guess I would never get an award or be in a magazine! I tend to build for my own satisifaction and while I think I build a decent model, I am too critical of my work to take it to a show and let others judge it. In the end, I enjoy this hobby and have never felt the need to build contest winning models or seek fame and recognition.
Agent G Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Magazine. MCM featured a local show several years ago and I had three cars photographed. That really meant a lot to me. G
george 53 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Neither. I'm happy when the guys in the club like my builds.
Jantrix Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Does it make me shallow if I say I like and want both? I got into the latest contest annual and man it made my week. I love winning awards at contests. I work hard on my models to make them the best I can. If they are recognized either by folks here on the forum or by awards it gives me a complete warm and fuzzy. Yeah I guess it does make me shallow, but I really don't care. As a character flaw, it's pretty minor.
sjordan2 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I take bribes... Of course. You're from Chicago.
peter31a Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) Magazine. Had one in the SA Contest Annual a few years ago and dragged that puppy around to show to anyone who would look. I've won a couple of awards but while special it just wasn't the same thrill as seeing the truck first on SA website and then in the Annual. Ummm..... Harry, unmarked bills or Paypal?...... Ramfins59 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Forgive me if this sounds like bragging...... as that is NOT how it is meant...... I've had my share of both winning awards and having models pictured in magazines over the past 20 years...... Having a model pictured in a magazine is to me is far better than winning an award...... even though winning an award is pretty cool.
Harry P. Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Ummm..... Harry, unmaked bills or Paypal?...... Unmarked bills please.
58 Impala Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) I agree with George, I value a compliment from one of my friends in the club I belong to more that any award. Edited November 2, 2012 by 58 Impala
