johnyrotten Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Got my truck's inspection done today, now the sticker is halfway where it should have been with all the old adhesive still smeared on the windshield. Minor irk, but seriously, not hard to do a good job with this. Happy they didn't cut my dash. I believe I've found the training grounds for future "chimpcanics"

Ace-Garageguy Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I did something stupid that, while not terrible, is definitely going to take some non-billable effort to make right. 3
Calb56 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Just seeing that photo hurts... 23 hours ago, LennyB said: Buried under this mess is a 1939 Plymouth P8 Sedan I restored for my father 25 ears ago. Yesterday morning at 7:30 a tree branch decided to part ways with the parent tree and took out the back of the garage. Don't yet know the extent of the damage as the tree crew isn't coming until Tuesday. Bu the roof has a crease across it and the hood is sitting several inches too high at the bast of the windshield.
89AKurt Posted July 1 Posted July 1 This is a look-the-other-way and you-only-did-that-once so forget about it. But the time I joined a drum circle for a moonrise at this spot is a good memory. Forest Service blocked the party spot when a new parkinglot and outhouse was built. I think it was driven by new million dollar homes being built on a hillside back to the right. Less and less places to park. Traded for this, signs signs everywhere. 3

rattle can man Posted Wednesday at 03:25 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:25 AM "But officer, the sign says park within marked spaces, not space"" There is nothing on the sign that says you have to use only one space. Or how you park in the marked spaces. 3

Ace-Garageguy Posted Thursday at 11:10 AM Posted Thursday at 11:10 AM (edited) Being lectured on what's acceptable PC speech by a woke-trained AI. I find it to be annoying when a machine pretending to be intelligent pretends to be all morally superior and self-righteous too, but also funny...in a sad, pathetic kind of way. EDIT: HOA Karens need to watch out. They're a perfect fit for early replacement by AI bots. Edited Friday at 09:09 PM by Ace-Garageguy 4
forthlin Posted Thursday at 12:08 PM Posted Thursday at 12:08 PM Just found out from my mechanic that my '01 Saab 95 has a blown head gasket. The coolant wouldn't circulate & I thought the thermostat was stuck shut. Put new tires on it earlier this year & had $300.00 worth of work put in it just 3 wks. ago.😢 1 4
Tim W. SoCal Posted Thursday at 11:32 PM Posted Thursday at 11:32 PM Too many idiots with deficient driving skills on my local freeways. Especially those who feel the need to just about take the front end off of my car while I'm in a group in the number one lane all going the same speed, just to watch the car I was behind get smaller and smaller as it drives into the horizon because they're driving slower than the flow of traffic and there is no opportunity to pass them.
rattle can man Posted Friday at 12:57 AM Posted Friday at 12:57 AM The guy who ran a red l and went straight for the center lane I was turning into, almost taking my bumper off.
stavanzer Posted Friday at 06:08 AM Posted Friday at 06:08 AM First World Problem. Diet or Zero Sugar Soda in Cans. 12oz, can will now fill a 24-32oz cup with foam when you poor. Way, way too much carbonation. It takes longer to subside too. Root Beer was always bad for this but now almost all Diet Sodas are this way. I know. Really small irk, but now that I've shifted completely to Zero Sugar sodas, it is moving up on my list of daily annoyances.
TonyK Posted Friday at 01:19 PM Posted Friday at 01:19 PM Losing a little tiny model part. Working on a couple of race car models and decided to attach the little parts to both of them this morning. It was going very well and I even thought to myself how well it was going and that's when it happened. Heard it hit the workbench so know it had to be there somewhere. It's well lit but after looking for the longest time, I couldn't find it. Even used a flashlight to make it even brighter but no luck. Looked on the floor too but can't see it going that far. Really irked! 1
rattle can man Posted Friday at 03:32 PM Posted Friday at 03:32 PM you will find that part on the bench right in front of you. 6 months after you finish the build with a substitute part.

Since you specify sugar-free sodas, does that imply that soft drinks with real sugar do not foam up as much? Also, the volume of foam generated is related to the speed of the pour, the height of the pouring stream, the temperature of the liquid and of the container your are pouring into it, and also how clean the walls of the container are. How's that for a getting technical about foaming? Personally I like as much carbonation as I can get, especially if I don't drink all of the container rather quickly. I hate flat soda! It's gross.

Few sodas have "real" sugar. Since the eighties most have High Fructose Corn Syrup. In fact I remember the ads telling us on TV that High Fructose Corn Syrup was just the same as sugar...

Not to be preachy, but if you haven't, you really should research the downside of this stuff. While I fully understand the desire to avoid empty sugar calories (and I'll drink a couple of "diet" Cokes a week...the only sodas I drink for that very reason), the effects of non-sugar sweeteners on your body aren't good either. "While non-sugar sweeteners are often promoted as a calorie-free way to enjoy sweetness, research suggests they may not be as beneficial as commonly believed, and in some cases, could even be harmful. Studies have linked long-term consumption of non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) to an increased risk of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, they may not be effective for weight loss and could potentially contribute to weight gain." If you drink a lot of the stuff, you really owe it to yourself to look for healthier alternatives. Yes, they're kinda a PITA and take some getting used to, but type-2 diabetes is a real downer...and is largely avoidable. It's really a shame that most of the mass-marketed beverages are pretty much garbage. For instance, I wish somebody made a carbonated lemonade or root beer or cola with just a little real cane sugar, and an electrolyte package. That would be a lot better for us than the stuff that's easy to find. Edited Friday at 05:11 PM by Ace-Garageguy 2
Dave Ambrose Posted Friday at 05:45 PM Posted Friday at 05:45 PM People thinking they can pass on busy 2-lane highways -- when they can't. There's a long stretch of 2 lane highway that goes through the Mojave desert. Terrain varies between pretty flat, gently rolling, and over low mountains. This one pickup truck hangs themselves out on a long like of traffic, not realizing the oncoming traffic is moving at a good clip. We are in the lead. Barely gets back into line and we head to the shoulder. My wife was driving and she handled it well. We both could have done without the adrenaline rush though. 2

Sucrose, fructose, and similar. Non-diet. If one wants "real" sugar, Mexican Coca-Cola contains that.

I agree with Bill, the sweetener alternatives, especially the chemical ones are terrible for you. I rarely drink soda anymore. 1
