I'm working at home this AM finishing up some billing and parts ordering, and was waiting for UPS. When he arrived, I went out to save him the walk to the door, and heard multiple radial engines overhead.

Much to my surprise, there was a B-17 flying over the trees at about 500 feet...apparently setting up to land at McCollum.

I was practically jumping up and down, pointing and shouting to the UPS guy "there's a WW II bomber!!!". He didn't even notice, just drove away.

I looked it up online and found there's a bunch of warbirds over there through the 27th.

Guess I won't be getting much more work done today...   B)

a helicopter flying in the air: A B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber, a B-25 Mitchell and a C-47 Skytrain perform a fly over in honor of the 75th anniversary of victory in Europe and the end of World War II at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on May 08, 2020 in Phoenix.

C-47, B-17, and B-25--very VERY cool!

BTW, did you know it's possible to BACK a B-17 into a parking space? (And no, they don't have reversible props.)

I can relate to your excitement. There's been a few times a B-17 flew over here while visiting a local airfield and there's no sound like it. I'd hear the sound first and realize that's not familiar and then look for it. Love it!

You should hear that sound from inside! along with the shakes, rattles and squeaks! Awesome!

Usually birds come back each year to the same place to nest. Maybe you could save the nest and put it in a new wreath this holiday just to see what happens.

No way. They made a mess of the door.

I would be willing to put the nest un the bushes next to my door but never again. I don't think we will put a wreath on again after this

Karens...always on the lookout. At least she waited until the little ones were gone.  :D

she tried to say my wife told her it was ok, but i had called my wife before i went out there and she was surprised and annoyed. she kept saying what if the babies want to come back to sleep, now they cant.

i said to the lady, i will take care of it, you dont need to clean my door. they were there at 8am when my wife left and they were gone at noon when i went out for lunch. at 2pm she was hosing down the door. like jeez lady, was the hidden nest bothering you that much

not that i need to even say it, but our plan (my wife and i) was to see if they came back. if they did not come back by 4pm tomorrow, i would clean it up then. that would give them a little more than 24 hours. i definitely dont want birds on my door, but i also dont want dead birds because their nest is destroyed

I'd be...annoyed...as well. I'll never understand some folks' motivations.

But if the little ones were gone and not hanging around anywhere, it's a good bet they can fly, and mombird will still be feeding them somewhere else for a while anyway.

The first day out of the nest is the most dangerous for young birds, and the strongest ones often get eaten by cats because they leave before they can fly enough to get to a branch high enough to be out of reach. I've lived on wooded lots for decades, and I've seen lotsa nesting birds in that time.

Anyway, if mombird wasn't fluttering around trying to attract attention away from the kids, it's likely they can fly well enough to get in the trees, and they'll be OK.

Thanks for those B-17 pictures.

On the subject of the birds....I've had Chickadees nest in a birdhouse and it's fun to watch the parents bring food to the baby birds and hear the peeping going on. Then suddenly they're gone. Didn't even see it happen but one day it's all quiet so I'm guessing when it's time for the babies to fly away then the whole process is done. So I'm sure your wreath/nest did it's job and everything will be ok.

Don't get the neighbor infringing on your space though.

Wife and I went to the movie theater for the first time in about 15 months. No mask needed if you had your shot/shots. We used to go at least once a month so this was a treat. Add to that lunch at Portello's. Doesn't get a whole lot better than that IMO.

I just got done painting the inside of the garage in our new home. We recently down sized. Sold the big house with the big yard and everything that goes with that.  The new garage is barely a two car since we can only open the doors on one car at a time. I have always treated the garage as another room in the home just for the cars. A coat of semi gloss white reflects the lights and makes the whole area seem brighter and much cleaner looking.

These planes were at one of my local airports a few years ago. Took the morning to go up and see them with my wife and son. Very cool. Even my son liked them. You don't realize how cramped they are until you get inside one. There were very brave people flying those.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the B-17 overfly us at the beach. A beach a little south of where we were is the turn-around point for the passenger flights.

I have had the great pleasure of meeting B-17 Sentimental Journey in person several times and B-17 909 (R.I.P.) once during air shows in my area.  I am not familiar with B-17 Texas Rangers, I don't think she has ever made it out here. I have had an inside tour of Sentimental Journey and also B-29 Fifi. At 5'9" both planes were definitely cramped inside to walk around inside. My spouse laughs at me for the time I spend on YouTube watching and listening to anything with four Wright Cyclones starting up and taking off, but it it is an amazing sound experience.

That's cool...... B) and you used semi-gloss on the walls, that means you can wipe down the walls with a wet rag if needed (can't do that to flat paint....)
