The custom DeLorean instrument panel as it stands today. Still some way to go, but the worst is over.

Screen-printed gauge faces on a vinyl overlay on clear styrene sheet; hand-made brushed aluminum, stepped bezel face: instrument movements by Classic Instruments; everything to put it together and make it actually function like an OEM assembly by me.

This unit, parts of which were made for a DeLorean show car, was supplied to me dissembled, with parts that didn't go together, had been damaged, or were just poorly thought out and made....cool looking junk, essentially. Now it's a real part.

BEAUTIFUL!  Were the brushed aluminum parts routed, or hand-shaped?  Either way, beautiful work (unsurprisingly).

We make a lot of products that require a brushed aluminum finish like that where I work - we use this product a lot:

https://www.wensco.com/itemdetail/MP6BA

Comes pre-brushed, and it's a composite of aluminum front and back with a polyethylene core.  It works well for a lot of our projects because it's significantly lighter than the equivalent 1/8" aluminum sheet, can still be welded, it has a perfect uniform brushed finish already and it's faster and easier on our CNC router than aluminum sheet.  Oh, and it's outdoor rated, which is useful for some products.  Just thought that might be a product of interest to you, if you hadn't heard of it.

Love seeing your 'big car' work Bill - thanks for sharing!  I particularly love the little 'Deloreon-with-it's-wings-up' door-open light!

Thanks. I Can't take credit for the design of the gauge faces and idiot light symbols. They were done before I got the job...which had been in multiple shops previously.

The bezels were hand shaped. I did the "brushed" finish by drawing the faces across 180 grit sticky-back sandpaper, with a fence on the bench to keep the lines straight, prior to bonding the assembly together.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads-up on the brushed product you guys use. :D

But do you still have to do the dishes? I also enjoy a nice thick BBQ Steak, but I still have to do the dishes.

Well,  The Missus and I split dish duty!

I have been the designated Dish Person forever. My wife doesn't know how to stack the dishes in the dish washer properly. Ya. I'm one of those types that likes things stacked so that the get cleaned, no spoons stacked on top of each other in the cutlery part and glasses properly secured so they don't fall over, and plates stacked so they don't bang against each other when you run the dish washer.

Oh man...you reminded me of one of my exes who'd go off on me if I tried to explain logical dishwasher loading to her.

Hard to believe the names I got called too. So glad she left to make the next sucker's life a living hell, and if he's not a "yes dear, whatever you say dear" kinda guy, I'm sure she's left him too by now.

Some women should have warning tattoos on their foreheads, something like "HERE BE DRAGONS".

Or just:    If your forehead came with a warning label, what would it say ...She sure was cute, though.   :D

I can seriously Tetris the dishwasher!  My only issue is the neither the wife nor my teenager remove left over food before placing dishes in the sink.  I scrape it off and leave it in the sink for them.  Wife asks why I can't scrape if off into the trash can to which I reply why can't they dump it into the trash as they walk past the can when they go into the kitchen???  You can hear crickets chirp.....

Got fired last Friday.

Got Hired Monday, to start work next Monday, May 1st.

20K pay cut, but at least it is a job.

The Lord Works in Mysterious Ways, so I'm not complaining. We will get by somehow, and the future is always changing.

I officially retired today. More time for model cars, telescopes, astronomy, scuba diving, surfing, and grandson. Oh yeah, and helping around the house.

It is what is. I'm happy about the short time between jobs. Not Happy about the pay, but that changes.

I moved 250 boxes of unbuilt models from my current house to my new house (in the garage temporarily) yesterday.   Still have old built kits, 60s-70s unbuilts, resin kits and diecast to move.  Slowly but surely..

Finished my First Day yesterday. Much better than I expected. I've got to spool up quickly though. Going to be some serious skull sweat for a few weeks.

Thanks to everybody who sent prayers.

Yesterday was a good day. Busy at work, delivered bunch of new trucks to a new client. And it looks like myself and our other fleet manager are now the EV division here at the dealership too. Mainly because we're pretty much the only ones selling any EVs. And Ford is really focusing on commercial fleets and electrification, so it's a good fit.

More importantly than all of that though, took my daughter to see Megadeth last night. First saw them back in 1991 with Testament and Judas Priest. And last night's show was just as good.

Sooooo, what did your daughter think of the concert? That's a big stage!

She loved it! She's 15 and this was her first general admission show. We went out on the floor for the openers, Bullet For My Valentine, but she wanted the option of sitting during Megadeth. Which my middle aged been at work all day body appreciated!

I've never pushed my musical tastes on the kids, but both of them are big fans of the heavy stuff!
