Impalow Posted December 17, 2019 Author Share Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) So I haven't logged in here for quite awhile... like almost 6months(yikes), but I have been working on this project off and on. Hopefully I can keep some momentum on this one for awhile... I would like to at least have something fresh completed for next years show season. Here are some updates from the past few months! This is how it looked at the Final Toledo NNL if anyone saw it there... I shrunk the 959 windshield down, molded it in and built a targa bar... The Heller 934 sacrificed its dash, and I got that wing to fit much better. After Toledo I had a fit of motivation, and knocked out the next round of filler and molding. Then it got pretty crazy, working on the front end to make it less "smiley", making the chassis and suspension actually fit, correcting (ruining) the ride height and working out the aero items. I also scratch-built the interior pan, and used my silhouette cutter to make some side panel detail and a tiny piece of luggage. Last night i was able to shoot some primer on it, and check out how questionable my rough body work was..... and it is quite questionable... however it looks like it should be salvageable with some time and effort. I also scratch-built an exposed shift mechanism using a couple of ferrari testarossa a-arms and some beads and pins. Can I suggest a tiny change, your sketch is fantastic but I think the roof and Targa bar are a little tall ? Your sketch just looks more streamlined, and looks longer and lower. The roof somehow makes it look shorter ... Ive commented on plenty of your builds before, you know I'm no expert , its just my opinion mate ! Impalow Posted December 15, 2020 Author Share Posted December 15, 2020 Thanks guys! Remember this thing? Well I got distracted for awhile but its back on the bench. Santa Eric brought me a New AnyCubic Resin 3d printer, so it helped me over the hump with a couple things on this.. I never really liked the tread pattern on the Tamiya 959 tires, so I modeled up some Yokohama Advan Neovas at the same size, then the signature air cooled Porsche fan had the pesky belt molded in over the fins, and finally I downloaded a Turbocharger model from Thingverse then mirror imaged it...so I can scratch build a symmetrical system. I've been casually looking at one of these...did you have to buy something to cure the resin or does it set up ok without UV light? Think of the crazy frames you'll be able to make with that thing! I'm really excited about the possibilities with the printer... my goal is a future build with hardly any kit parts, of a car that was loosely designed but never built .... the Tucker Carioca... Between that and my Dad building a 1:12th scale replica of my 1:1 LS-Datsun Z this printer should technically pay for itself over ordering Shapeways prints. 27 minutes ago, CabDriver said: did you have to buy something to cure the resin or does it set up ok without UV light? I bought the package set with the wash/cure station... It makes the workflow easier and cleaner, although I can see its still pretty easy to make a big mess... I think the parts need a final cure of some sort, I know guys just set things out in the sun.. but winter in ohio, the sun is missing. This setup seems more control-able, however I am only one night into it... I did make more usable parts in one night than I did the entire time I had the FDM printer I bought for the same price in 2015.. ? Im already thrilled with it! I'm really excited to see the bananas stuff you come up with with this thing! I think you're getting 99% of what it's possible to get out a scrapbook cutter, so this is the next logical step!
