actually, using Indian (or other countries) nationals is not a new trend...I experienced this in the 1990's at I company I worked ten years at. If you see your company going for "H1B" visa workers, that means you may be training your foreign born replacement. cultural issues tend to pop up when companies do this because some cultures still treat females as second class workers and some cultures have a stigma about pointing out work/product errors to the point that they will let bad work/product go on by so they won't get blamed for it or have to fix the problem. I have experienced both of these issues first hand, the first issue got an upper level manager fired for harassment.

'65 Chevelle SS 396 Z-16 (Under Glass 7-July-15)
blunc replied to taaron76's topic in WIP: Model Cars
that's a great looking engine. one small tidbit for ya, there would only be one PCV valve (and hose) on the engine. I notice you have a hose going to each valve cover, usually one of them would be the PCV valve and hose, the other hose going to a valve cover would be a fresh air line that gets connected to the bottom or side of the air cleaner or in some high-performance cases a small K-N filter is attached to the valve cover as a fresh air inlet. -
at least two of the larger tech companies in Arizona are doing something similar to Walmart with regard to employees... they have "contract"/"temp" workers that are treated for the most part as "lesser" employees that can be let go at the drop of the hat and they don't have to pay severance or any other benefit that actual company employees receive. Very few temp workers get converted to full employee status due to this new employment model that fools management or the public into thinking there are less people making widgets than there really are. Being a second class employee does NOT engender any sense of loyalty to the employer and reduces the desire to help improve the company especially if there is no hope of being converted to full employee status. We really are our own worst enemies.

I agree with Harry on this one.

another thing to consider is the "wow factor" and judges which are lacking in modelling experience/depth of knowledge. I have seen wow factor skunk some great builds but I also remember some heated judging sessions at 2am trying to decide master awards.

the "politics" issue has always bothered me which is why in a critically judged contest I think the entrants name should not be visible to the judges during judging...even though most judges these days may be able to recognize build styles of the more prolific builders. I may even have thought my 1/32 scale 34 Ford got skunked by some (what appeared to be) well built (possibly "out of the box") 1/43 scale open wheel cars...I didn't let that bother me because that build is probly 30 years old and my personal standards have gotten a lot more critical of my own builds. I have raised my own bar due to some inspiration from the builders on this forum. I may even dream of having a 1/32 build get best in show.... (HEY, I can dream can't I...? ) just don't be made at me if a 1/32 build skunks you.

Revell & Foose poll for 2 new kits
blunc replied to 1930fordpickup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I initially thought of choosing the Imposter but I'd rather do my own (and already have all the parts acquired to do so) and am considering doing mid-60's variants of this build parameter with the other big-3 car makers. Maybe I can find a way to mix a GT40 chassis with a '64 Fairlane... -

I guess I didn't get "shorted" on that kit since that was one of the ones I never got. -

whether a person (today) likes the car or the kit is still in the "eye of the beholder" but it seems to me that the outstanding engineering of this show rod is constantly being overlooked or overshadowed because of the current behavior of a builder that hasn't realized that he's a "one hit wonder" and tried to move on. His golden egg has withered and gone sour. BUT.... the original engineering was innovative and was appropriately awarded at the time. Builders that want to have a piece of this kind of show rod history will probably still buy this kit if it ever hits the shelves again, the rest will continue to whine that their favorite car was never marketed. the more things change, the more they stay the same. (try reading through the readers comments in the model car mags of the 60's and you'll see the same rants you see in these forums). If you don't personally own the old model car mags, go to modelcarencyclopedia.com and you can read through all the old mags that people have been nice enough to scan. (warning, you might see a photo of a rather young Tim Boyd) -

it should have been a 1/24 scale 70's style dancing chick, did you get a midget dancing chick in your model kit? -
Can't seem to get my motor going...!
blunc replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be watching the '56 Merc build, I have a Montclair in 1/32 scale but that project is far down on the list. I really like the Merc styling from '52 thru '56 -

I'd guess your mojo is busy with something else right now... -
this train has left the rails. might as call in the clean up squad and post it as a bio hazard.

if this is the same tape that USED to be popular in real hobby shops...(which I suspect), this tape doesn't like to stay stuck down when placed in a sharp 90deg bend and was problematic in most any arc larger that about 15deg. I still have some but lost the packaging so I don't recall the manufacturer.

or...you could build one with torsion suspension... here's an example marketed by Moal:

on the bright side, you now have some wire that you can use on your models.

what speed did you want to go?

man, talk about someone pushing boundaries, that Escher cat may be in the box or he may not be in the box...but he is totally where it's at.

umm, because they have it and you don't? I agree, it's outrageous but it's the old "supply and demand" or rather they demand $20 then supply you with what you want.
