All 5 looked great in '66. But even better in '67. -

New FIAT 124 Spider

Looks pretty good from the above photo. -
Saw the new release at tonight's local model car club meeting. Other than box art, I can see no changes over other issues of this kit. Vanishing Point or other. No question. I passed and will be passing on buying one. Picked up Moebuis' 1965 Satellite instead.

The Truth Is Out...The Earth Is Flat !!!
unclescott58 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I get a kick out of reading Harry's post on this. I'm wondering why Harry, your so worried about this and the people who believe that earth is flat. I personally think these people are idiots. But, how does their stupidity affect me in the long run? Most modern people with a common education realize the earth is round and that flat earth theory makes no sense. It is a very small bunch that believes that the earth is flat. And not worth worrying about. -

Hey! Where can I get the cool looking helmet the kid is wearing in the above post. I need one. But, it needs to be lined with aluminum foil. So not only to keep the moon beams from hitting me, but the secret radio instructions I'm receiving from our government. Or are those radio signals coming from aliens? I can never get that right.... It's because I don't have above helmet lined with tin foil! Or is that aluminum foil? This is so hard! ? -

Your correct on you last posting Matt. The fuel line from the tank would attach to where you see the hole in the pump. -
Best single year ever?

The guy who runs this web site published a very good book a few years back, on that year too. And your right. It's hard to argue with him. 1966 was a cool year. I just like the looks of '67 cars a little bit better. But then, one way of looking at it, is that most of the '67 model year cars appeared in the fall of 1966. So I guess he is right. It is 1966! Another great year is 1958. Not for the cars. Though I like those too. But, because little Scotty Aho (that's me!) came in the world that year. ? -
Wow! Interesting to read the above posts. I like several of you, lost interest in NASCAR 10-15 years ago. I can't tell a Chevy from a Ford or Toyota anymore. And I'm not even sure if Chrysler is even running cars in NASCAR anymore. But, with Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Mercury, AMC, and Plymouth gone from the game, I'm bored. Who do I root for? I guess Chevrolet. But I just don't know? And to build a model of these boring looking, look a like cars? I've got better, more interesting model cars I'd rather spend my money on and build. Sorry to say. Interesting, I just in the last month or so, I bought an Auto World HO slot car set. What set did I buy? Petty vs. Baker. A cool set representing cars they ran in the 1971 season. Two brands of cars by the same maker. Richard Petty's Plymouth Roadrunner and Buddy Baker's Dodge Charger. Two cars aimed at the same buyer. Built on the same chassis. But, look so different from one another. They didn't just look different from the Fords, GMs, and AMCs. They looked different from each other! Even though they are both Mopars. Man, I miss those days.

If your talking about Jay Leno, he was originally from Boston. Not Chicago. And Greg and Snake have it right. A hub cap covers basically the hub. The center of the wheel. Leaving a lot of the outer rim of the wheel expose. A "full" wheel cover covers the full wheel. In most case a very small sliver of the rim is seen. It's really that simple. Go back and look at factory literature from the past. Most cars came with hub caps as standard equipment. Full wheel covers were optional. And in the 1930's, 40's and early 50's, it was common to see hub caps with trim rings. A look I still like to this day. Speaking of Jay Leno's '63 Vette, I built my last version of the AMT '63 to match his. In the past I've always built that car the same way. Red exterior with and red interior. But, Jay's inspired me. I really like the silver. So this is the first '63 coupe I've built in a color other than red. But, if Round 2 ever sees fit to reissue MPC's 1/16 scale '63 (stock) Vette again. I'll be back to building another red one.

Already doing it.

I'm very sorry about your loss Bill. I had put down my 18 year old cat back in January. I still think about and miss him. They are like family.

Yea, I know the '69 Bonneville hardtop came with a canoe. The convertible did not. Both the original '69 and '70 Bonneville convertibles, and the Model King reissue, came with parts to turn them into El Camino like pickup trucks. But, no AMT speedboat until the Model King release. by the way, I assume since the '69 Bonneville hardtop had the canoe. The '70 did too? And if so. I wonder if Round 2 has those dies, and might someday be able to reissue the kit with the canoe? I loved those extra accessories MPC liked to add to their kits. The canoes, mini bikes, snow tires and skis, etc. They always made their kits a little more interesting to me.
-
I'm young enough to remember them. The 1970's became a little hazy for me. My ingestion of certain substances changed somewhere along the line back then. But before those changes, I remember building kits that weren't much better than that. My kit bashing never turned out that bad. But, it could be bad none the less. By the way, I'm wondering if this auction is worth bidding on for the trailer? The trailer didn't look too bad from what I could see. I personally will not bid on this just for the trailer. But, some others might?

The last Vanshing Point Challenger came out before Round 2 took over. And since Round 2 has a habit of fixing and correcting kits. I wonder if we'll see that done in this case? That's why I'm waiting to hear from someone who actually has gotten their hands on the Round 2 release. I doubt there are changes, and have not heard of anything being done to this kit for the Round 2 issue. But, one can always hope. And in general Round 2 has done a good job of not letting me down. So I'm hoping this Vanshing Point Challenger will be a good one. I could be wrong.

The boat was in the original AMT Bonneville kit? Interesting. Since MPC took over making full size Pontiac model kits in 1966. The last Bonneville AMT tooled up in the day was the '65. The '66 through '70 Bonneville kits were all tooled up by MPC. My original MPC Bonneville convertible never came with boat. I never saw that combo until the Model King release a few years back. I'd like to see this MPC Bonneville kit you refer to, that came with the AMT speedboat back in the day.
-
Why not? Revell keeps reissuing the Hemi-Hydro. There must be a market for that. So why not AMT's speed boat?

Ed, no Moutain Dew in that refrigerator above!? I don't see how you can survive living like that!

Revell '71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda questions
unclescott58 replied to Helper Monkey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yea, it looks the Revell Hemi in that kit is missing the oil filter. I find it interesting Matt, that you did not about the fuel pump on the passenger side of the engine. You made the comment about thinking the pump would be back with the fuel tank. Until maybe the last 20 or 25 years or so, it was rare for a vehicle to not have a mechanical fuel pump similar to what you see on the old 426 Hemi. Sometimes they were mounted on the right side of the engine. Sometimes on the left. And almost always up near the front timing gear. As modern electronic fuel injection came into being, electric fuel pumps became more common. Boy it makes me real old when somebody doesn't know something like this, that I think of as common knowledge. But, if you have not work on or with old cars much, I can see where this would be not known. -
Noob question on craft acrylics
unclescott58 replied to TedD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I see few reasons to experiment with paint anymore. Since switching to hobby lacquers, mainly Tamiya, I've had little to no problems with painting models. It may not be the cheapest way to go. Then again, with as little stripping of paint as I've had to do since switching to lacquer, it may be the cheapest way to go. -
X2. Snake explained it the way I've always understood it.

Round 2 has recently announced that they're coming out with a Vanishing Point Challenger. Does anybody out there, know anything about this kit? It's suppose to be on the selves any day now. I love that movie. I love the car. I'm nervous about what this kit will be based on. I can't wait for somebody to review it
-
I kind of doubt the boat will appear with the Bonneville. The boat was an AMT kit just put in with MPC Bonneville that one time for Model King. I'd love to see Round 2 reissue the boat again. Preferably by itself.
