Stripping chrome & flat black issues. Need advice
DPNM replied to DPNM's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Joe, I misunderstood the undercoat, I took it as the chrome residue. I will need to get some ELO but I will definitely give it a try. -
Stripping chrome & flat black issues. Need advice
DPNM replied to DPNM's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I picked up a gallon of Super Clean and a can of Comet. I'll see what results I get and post them. Any ideas on stripping flat black? There's a good chance of losing detail sanding it off. I have a couple HO train items I'd like to strip. One being a tender. They have rivets, I'd hate to sand them off. -
I recently stripped a chrome tree. I used Purple Power which usually strips well and fast. It left some brownish reside on some of the parts. I tried 91% IPA, oven cleaner and bleach. This took some of the residue off but some still lingers. I found I can chip it off with my hobby knife, I just need to try not to gouge the plastic. I have another tree of the same chrome parts. So far I've soaked it for a couple days each in 91% IPA and bleach. I'm out of PP at the moment but it didn't do a complete job on the first one. I also need to strip some flat black parts. Neither PP, 91% IPA, oven cleaner or bleach has touched it. I've read that brake fluid works as a paint stripper but I've also read that the newer brake fluid isn't as good. I'm out of older brake fluid also or I'd have tried it. What are the best options I have to strip these parts?

It looks like you have a good start. If you can dull the chrome down on the engine you may be ok. Being new you may not be aware of all the forum sections. Don't be surprised if this topic is moved to the "All the Rest" section of the forum. It's in the Other Models section, below the truck section. Don't fret about it, I've posted in the wrong section myself.

The Ossa is 1:1 and it is a pretty miraculous story. TY sounds fun, I wouldn't mind one myself. I had a couple Montesa Cota's years ago. Trials would be more my speed now-a-days in the dirt. I need to get the Ossa frame and swing-arm sand blasted and powder-coated. Then I can start reassembly.

another one for yall kit historians
DPNM replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Meister Brau / Blazing Bison is the only plastic tractor kit I am aware of that was produced. As above, there is the Orange Blossom Special. And the Tennessee Thunder funny car. Perhaps someone on the forum (or where-ever you saw it) had made a model of one of these? The tractor has multiple engines, the car has one. It was a change of sponsorship by Bud Jaske. The car seems to fit your description except for the multi engines. There is room there to add at least one more. -
Welcome to the forum from south-western Pa. John! I, too, have an interest in motorcycles amongst other forms of transportation. If it has wheels and an engine, I like it.

You are off to a great start on this Casey. It's looking good. Maybe it's my old eyes but it sure looks to me like there is a glass pack and a bit of the exhaust pipe showing behind the rear wheel. I see the headers behind the front wheels, perhaps a street/strip exhaust set-up? Or... it could be more background clutter like the crossed flags. Nail polish may get you a pink you can use.

I just completed a trade with Khils. Super guy and a quick shipper. I'll trade with Kevin again anytime.

I almost always listen to Pink Floyd, Metallica and Billy Idol. They have a way of psyching me up. I built a model a good while ago and only listened to Pink Floyd's "The Wall". It was on cassette and the player just kept reversing itself. Ahhh, good times!

Welcome from south west Pa!!! -
I had a great trade with vintagedragcrazy (Vince) and we had the opportunity to meet in person at a swap-meet. He is a great guy to trade with and we worked out another trade while we were there.

These came from the same show as my post above. This was a trade between vintagedragcrazy (Vince) and myself. We had agreed to the trade about a month ago but he suggested that we meet at this show. He is the first forum member that I've met and he is nicer in person than he is on your screen. Great guy.

I went to a model show/swap meet and came away with these sealed kits. The Mack was purchased because of a post I have in the truck section.

Road Warrior vs Convoy Mack comparison info please.
DPNM replied to DPNM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went to a model show/swapmeet today and scored this. The dragster isn't important to this conversation but the Mack is. Both are sealed. Now I will not need to try to convert my Convoy rig. Thank you to all who helped me. It is greatly appreciated. This project is on the back burner for now but I have a better start thanks to you fine gentleman. I'll need to place an Auslowe order too. -

Thank you for the input Anton and Dave. I did realize that the dash had to be changed . The R685ST sounds like the best way to go. Not having that kit I do not know what it's dash looks like. A lot of times these conversions can be done by cutting the dished in "passenger" side and grafting it onto the opposite side. No that difficult I wouldn't think. I was afraid of a lot of body hack and whack. Looking at the Auslowe site I'd guess that I'd need the 16" Cyclopac air cleaner (AC2) but I'm not sure which of the Ram tubes to use. https://www.auslowe.com.au/shop/category/aircleaners-accessories-/383 I'm gonna have to watch the movie again to refresh my memory and pause it to look at different aspects of the truck. It is my favorite film. -
Is anyone familiar with the differences in the two rigs from these movies? I believe that the RW rig is a R600 and the Convoy rig is a RS700 (RS712LST). Can the Convoy rig be used (without a ton of work) to replicate the Road Warrior truck? Is there another Mack model that would be an easier conversion? I know that AITM has resin parts available to convert a Pete 359 to the Duel rig. Does anyone make the parts needed to convert the Convoy Mack to Road Warrior? If this subject has come up before, my apologies. I searched the site using the Search function here and by modelcarsmag.com road warrior mack as per instructions in the Q&A section. I used both StartPage (Google) and DuckDuckGo as my search engines. I got nothing.

It took my (now ex) girlfriend to make me realize that I have a penchant for raspy voiced female singers. We were watching one of the "Talent" shows (not my thing, just being nice) and a girl was on with a raspy voice. I said that I hope she won (she didn't) and that's when she told me I had a thing for raspy voiced woman singers. It's true, Stevie, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, et al.

This may be true for most people but I've known for a long time I'm not "most people". As an example, KFC bowls. They have chicken strips, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn in the same bowl. Made myself it would all be in a bowl. My ex girlfriend couldn't understand this. If she had the same food on her plate they would all be nicely separated into their own section. I figure it's all going to the same place anyway.

I haven't read all the posts here, there are quite a few suggestions. Here's mine: I personally would be wary of a Pay it Forward, it seems to get argumentative. At one time I had a want ad up looking for a particular pickup truck. A member here sent me one that he had been working on that he wasn't going to finish. He paid the shipping. A while later I was looking to trade for some kits. A member here wanted one of my kits but had nothing to trade me for it. The kit meant a lot to him so I shipped it to him as a thank you to the member who sent me the pick up. If you trade models here, one thing that may work is to put the kit you got in the background of one of your trade pic posts. Someone who is extremely interested will ask about it I'm sure. One thing is all who have read this post will be looking for a mid 60s Mopar in the background now.

Error message on the forum's site
DPNM replied to ewetwo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I usually only see that message when I am on the forum but not logged in. When I am logged in it usually has a message from a Mod to report people acting badly although right now it is not there.
