  1. Welcome Guy! Enjoy your time here.
  2. I gave an Opti-visor a test trial but returned it to Amazon. I know many people use them and love them, I just prefer my well used Tamiya flip-up magnifying visor. Personal preference I guess. I think the Tamiya's are now more expensive than the Optivisors but come with 3 lenses so that helps a bit. Can't go wrong with either I guess.
  3. Sad part is that many who initially see this listing bid before taking the time to spend some time looking closely at what's included. The lure of a nice box of a semi-rare kit catches your eye more than looking at the parts. The front bumper on the tree is what immediately caught my eye. Got worse from there. I study everything I can before bidding and often ask for more photos if anything is questionable. Matter of fact, I've lost out on buy-it-nows while looking stuff up to verify what I'm buying.
  4. This is the only photo I could find of a 70 trunk lid that had the shape depression in the middle. 99.9% were flat. Same with 69, I found one with the same type of trunk lid. Not sure why these two popped up when searching while all others were flat. Looks like both AMT kits had this trunk lid though I think.
  5. I did this morning when I saw it. Haven't heard back.
  6. Like many of us I browse ebay for stuff I'm looking for. One is a 69 Imp. This one popped up this morning and I sensed a bit of (un)intentional description deception. My opinion is it sure looks like all but the box may be a 70? If so, hope this doesn't cause problems with the buyer if it goes for typical 69 prices. The listing description says "Orginal AMT Vintage 1969 Chevy Impala Junkyard. Not Sure What All Is Here. What You See Is What You Get! Sold As Is! Box Is In Great Condition For 50+ Years Old!" Maybe I'm wrong.... I know I won't bid on it
  7. Great build and gorgeous paint! Congrats!
  8. Following this build with interest! So far, so great!
  9. A pair of nice builds Dave!
  10. Fortunately, there's Model Empire in Milwaukee that I rely on for the occasional Tamiya rattle can and bottles. We live 3.5hrs north of Milwaukee but visit there often because two of our daughters live in a burb and the shop is a quick 20 min drive. Sure beats adding shipping costs for one or two cans.
  11. Beautiful build and great color choice as well!
  12. I picked up a couple of those Riv's probably at the same time at HL as you did Tom... for me that Riv and also an on clearance 62 Electra were great buys for having lots of goodies for stuff I like to do. Clearance for $7? Ummmmm..... yes.
  13. Our HL doesn't seem to run many, if any, specials or discounts on paints. Which, is good because I already have more paint than I'll ever use in my lifetime . I seem to collect tools and paint just as much as project builds.
  14. I airbrush Molotow (from the 30ml refill) on bumpers, grilles, wheel covers. I don't spray emblems or areas masked like window trim, but use a combination of foil and/or a Molotow pen. A fine brush to apply the molotow works nicely. As was said, you need to apply fairly heavy to get a good shine so masking tape might not work so well. Good side of spraying heavy is that it will self level nicely. I won't go back to Alclad or Spaz Stix for the things I now airbrush with Molotow as in my opinion the Molotow has a much better shine. Oh, and no need for an undercoat... just need to ensure a smooth surface. My opinion....
  15. Great job on the Stang David!
  16. Another great build Steve!
  17. I'm an admitted toolaholic and have lots of favorites. I think alot of what you find your favorite has to do with what type of builds you do. I primarily restore stuff so I rely on tools for disassembly and body work. First is a good set of riffler files. I have a few different sets of different cut depth. This one is from a rougher cut set but it works when you have lots of quick shaping to do. I love rifflers because you can use them in tighter spots, although I also have an assortment of conventional files. Not to mention a huge assortment of sanding stuff... paper, foam, sticks, etc. Next is my scraper. This is likely my most used tool. Don't ask the brand because I've forgotten. The hardened three sided scrapers does alot of things well and you can lean on it a bit without worrying about the blade. The fine point gets into the smallest spaces. Last are my Tamiya engraving tools that are great for cleanly cutting new lines or deepening existing. They come in different widths and I use primarily the .3mm and .5mm. I have the .1mm but it's so thin I'm afraid to use it much for fear of breaking it. I have an assortment of scribers and each have a use. These are pricey but I'm glad I have them for certain things. My go to scriber for general use is the Trumpeter. The tool inserted in the photo below is the Tamiya straight edge.
  18. Welcome Mark!
  19. Looks like the bird has good bones. I'd do the improvements you mentioned but I'm no fan of that yellow either. Maybe the Ford Desert Gold from that year would look good. Plus, it'd be kind of unique.
  20. Congrats! Loved seeing a "local" featured!
  21. Great idea for an old 'Soto and great build Al! ?
