  1. Welcome Gerard!
  2. Thinking I might make the trip to Milwaukee this weekend for the frequent Serb Hall shows. I've been to the Waukesha shows a number of times, but never the Serb Hall show. How do the two compare? I'm usually on the hunt for restoration projects and pieces. Also, older unbuilt kits if the prices are within reason. Is it worth the drive for what I might be looking for? Waukesha generally has a good selection. Thanks
  3. Welcome to the forum from another Wisconsinite!
  4. Welcome and great to hear your enthusiasm Brad!
  5. Welcome Sanya! Your scratchbuilt equipment looks great!
  6. Add me to the list of "restorers" ? I have more fun and challenge bringing these back to life than newer kits. Although, I still put new kits together.
  7. I totally agree with your opinion of Krylon Metallic Silver Foil. I've been using it for some time now and it's the best "chrome" spray I've used, with the possible exception of Spaz Stix spray. The only downside to the Krylon is you need to test your washes on it first. I use Tamiya panel line wash almost exclusively and if I remember right it didn't work well with the Krylon.
  8. Welcome Joe!
  9. Welcome Brett!
  10. Welcome!
  11. Tamiya TS13 or Testors Wet Look for gloss. Krylon Colormaster Satin for satin clear. Testors Dullcote for dead flat clear.
  12. I occasionally use my Dremel with this type of bit in certain cases like getting glass free from the locators. Be steady and careful.
  13. Thanks guys! The handle of the one from Micro Mark looks identical to mine as well. Now I have some choices.
  14. I'm having trouble locating a replacement 3 sided scraper for the one I've had for quite some time. Mine is still functional, but I'd really like to get another to have when the time comes that I need it. I found it on Model Craft Tools USA but they are out of stock and don't know when, or if, they'll get more. Not sure how many of you use this tool but it's one of my favorites. Anyone have any ideas where I can find one for sale? Thanks
  15. The pic may not show it very well but the filler panel is fully covered. Good tip about the clear over the foil. Thanks
  16. BMF worked great to mask that tight area. Should peel off nice too
  17. Never thought of BMF! In this case maybe easier than masking tape. Thanks
  18. I was more worried about the tape pulling the chrome than pulling the cleared filler panel color. If the Alclad stays down that'd be great. I guess I could do a test piece with Spaz and Alclad and see. Just wondering if anyone had tried pulling tape off dried alclad or spaz. Thanks
  19. I'm trying to figure out my next move in trying to finish the front bumper on my '60 Bonneville. I've shot the filler panel behind the bumper with the final body color and cleared it, so far so good. Now for the chrome. I had thought of masking the filler panel and then shooting preferably Spaz Stix chrome or Alclad II chrome, but masking it may be a nightmare. I'd also thought of using my Master Mask goopy film but it only works good when you can put it on rather thick. I began brushing it on but gave up when it seemed it was going to be hard to get it on thick enough. So, short of cutting the bumper off to give more room I was thinking I'd just go ahead and shoot the whole front end chrome, then after really dry go back and mask off the grille, headlights, and bumper and shoot the filler panel again with the body color. Will the tape pull off either the Spaz Stix or Alclad? I'm guessing it will pull the chrome off. I use Tamiya tape exclusively.
  20. So, I was able to possibly source the seat(s) from a Trumpeter kit but they appear to be a pleat pattern that I can't find on the internet as being correct for a '60 Bonneville. Trumpeter's instructions (on the Fotki online site) for the HT show a pattern very similar to my AMT and being correct for the '60 Bonnie, but the instructions for the '60 vert show this pattern. So, unless I can find the rear (or both) seat from the Trumpeter HT I'll either try and widen the rear seat on my AMT tub or just go ahead and use it as is, even though it's incorrect for a HT.
