Nice! Is that a Fred's body? -
50th Anniversary Duel truck.
Sam I Am replied to James Maynard's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I sure know what this truck is, but have never seen the movie. ? -
I'll be watching this one because I have one in the parts box as well.

Thank you so much. I had to sand a couple runs and spot in some more primer. So hopefully sometime this weekend it will be cleared.

Three years ago I sold mine at a model show for $80 in a beat up open box but complete. Sealed mint ones were selling for $100 more than that. Then the manufacturer finally reissues it at a price pretty much everyone can afford. Love it !

Sorry to hear about John, we had a great time when touring the model car museum.

What did you screw-up today??
Sam I Am replied to TransAmMike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Been there, done that. Too many times to count. Have you ever dropped the knife and had it skewer your foot? ? -
Sharp, very sharp. My vote is for this set of wheels.

Glad to see you back on these Bill. Honestly, I can't see any flaws in the paint from where I sit....but that is 85 miles away. ?

That is looking great Bill!

Is that you Shay ? How's tricks you say? Come on over, I'll have a few Guinness with you, and tell you all about it. ? How is AL doing? The chassis plate isn't anything to write home about, but since you will never see it, it's good enough for who it's for. I also like the wheels and stance.

Using a model to help build a 1:1
Sam I Am replied to Sam I Am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am really glad to see that others use models to help build their full size projects. I have a 1953 F100 in the garage, and an unbuilt kit in the stash. All I need is the vision... -
Have any of you that have, or have had, a full size project ever built a model to help you see if the vision in your head actually looks good as the finished product ? A number of years ago I had a 46 Chevy pu that was a blank canvas (Nice way of saying basket case). I wanted to keep the project as cost effective as possible so I thought of how to utilize parts that I already had. Somewhere along the way someone had roughly grafted a 53-4 Chevy passenger car instrument cluster to the dashboard. I figured the easiest thing to do was clean up the installation and keep the instrument panel. At the time, I had a 1959 Chevy 235 six cylinder with a three spd manual, and, a 1958 348 4bbl with powerglide. So I came up with two different ideas. First, going with tried and true red body, black fenders, and steelies. Dropping in the 235, dressing the engine up with finned aluminum valve cover, dual carbs and split exhaust. A friend had a 10 bolt out of a camaro, and I found out you can convert the stock six bolt front drums to five bolt by using 57 Chevy passenger car parts. So by mounting the rear end on top of the springs and "c-ing" the frame, adding a drop axle up front you would achieve a nice ride height. Drop a first gen mustang fuel tank between the frame rails behind the rear end, a frame mount dual master cylinder, and keep the interior stock, it should be a pretty straightforward and relatively inexpensive truck. Option two was pretty much the same chassis setup except drop the 348 powerglide in, paint it dark metallic blue and add old school mag wheels. So I built a model of each idea to see which one I liked the best. The red and black six banger won hands down for me. Unfortunately, due to life, the real truck never reached fruition. But, I still have the models. ?

Looks great Tom, will you have it buttoned up this weekend?
-
I really appreciate all the support and encouragement from everyone. So I have turned my attention to the chassis plate while I let this coat of primer cure out for a few days. Everything that was black spent days in the purple pond with scrubbing every day and after going over it with a pick, this is as good as it gets. I know it will never be seen but still want to put some detail on it.

Vintage 59 ElCamino Resto
Sam I Am replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great '59 Elcamino Tom. One of my favorite cars of all time. I just picked up an original just for the camper. Nice save by the way. -
Great trade with James Maynard.

Thanks ! I think I am looking at three or four. I really hope it was worth tuning in for. This little car was really abused. I have the first round of filler on the rear quarters and new I would need more, but this coat of primer really highlighted a number of gouges. The hood and trunk script were already sanded off as well as half the door handles and the chrome trim around the horizontal recessed area. So since it was already nosed and decked, I finished the job by shaving what was left. Even though the upper areas of the front and rear window trim were sanded pretty thin there should be enough definition left to mask off and chrome.

Thanks Roger. It won't be as clean as yours, that's why I am painting it white. White hides a multitude of sins. You ain't just whistling, that's why we pay it forward. You know Ricky, you just might be right. You're not a lot older than me Misha and I still remember seeing the Mastadons coming out of the Ark. ? Cheers! I knew you had an ulterior motive. Thanks everyone!
