You're getting there. Anyone else?

Nobody? That's a shame; Mother will be very upset (she hasn't been herself lately).

The '58 Nomad arrived safely this afternoon; I gently dismantled it and repaired the damaged headlight eyebrow and straightened the crooked headlights. Before: After: Also worked on the front bumper alignment; had to do some trimming and filing to make it fit better. The rear bumper was sticking out too far due to the body's shrinkage, so I cut the holes a bit farther back. Notice how I'll also have to narrow it about 3/16" or so. Finally, from the side, you can see how the rear wheels will have to be moved forward at least 1/8" to get them centered. I have an idea for that; stay tuned and thanks for looking! Note to SfanGoch: Here's an AMT Impala chassis I checked for fit. It would definitely need trimming at the rear and on the wheel wells.

AMT/Round2 will never go to the trouble; Revell, I bet, won't either due to costs (remember the canceled '57 Ranchero?). We really need a good resin transkit, preferably to fit the Revell '60 Impala. And the OCD in me thinks the bed rails on the stock El Camino above should be slanting forward, not back!

I never knew these existed!

They do show up fairly regularly, in several color combos; there's the bank version and the one with an interior, like this: or this: or this: and they're all warped in various directions/amounts. Happy hunting!

I have thought about that (paging Greg Wann? ). Nobody makes a stock '58 wagon that I know of, and it might be a good seller as a resin kit. Too bad it doesn't have the interior, but I notice the ones with interiors seem to warp/shrink more (As it is, the front and rear bumpers will have to be narrowed + - 1/8" to line back up with the body). I'm hoping this one has just shrunk evenly overall but kept its shape - certain promos do that.

Finally nailed one of these '58 Nomads, relatively cheeeep: It's one of the banks with no interior, but it's pretty straight and I go for that color combo (looks like Honey Beige and Sierra Gold). Fix the passenger side headlight eyebrow, add a bunch of BMF and done .

1/25 AMT '63 Chevrolet Impala SS Hardtop
ChrisBcritter replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Mine's the Model King "generic box" issue: Same deal - no underhood goodies (which I replaced with original issue parts from eBay) and molded taillights (drilled out and replaced with Modelhaus lenses). Picked up a Revell small-block to replace the 409, and... that's as far as I've gotten. I wish someone made those non-SS wheelcovers depicted on the box art, just to have a choice. Regarding the base and pen stand - nice big piece of scrap styrene you can test paints on, use for scratchbuilding, or turn over and use as a handy tray. -

A clean build of a tough little cruiser! -
Congrats on getting that kit! ^^^This looks like something from Brooks Stevens' studio. Besides the planes and cars, they had a Design-A-House kit. You could build a nice '50s modern home from it, albeit in 1/48 scale, but you could measure the pieces and scale them up to 1/24 easily enough.

No, to cover the mistake the crew just shot an insert with a closeup of Sean and Jill, rocking the camera to give the impression that the Mustang was going from side to side. Not too effective, with the number of folks still claiming there was a mistake! Back on topic: Rex (or anyone else), do you have the dimensions of those mufflers? Might help in the search if we all knew the size.

Iconic cars not kitted
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are a lot of iconic Australian cars that have never been kitted, even though there is a large hot rod/collector community. Are there enough modelers down under to make a local company successful with kits of, for example, the FX Holden or the GT Falcon, or the many many utes that have been produced? -

Do I hear $99? Do I hear $89?... $79? ...$69 (That's not funny, sir!)? OK, $59? Say, is this an audience or an oil painting? $49?... SOLD!
