  1. Tough kit to build nicely, but you're doing it very well. Are you using the Monogram '53 taillights?
  2. I just got something different: It's a coin bank that was made for the Superior Coach Employees Federal Credit Union sometime after 1954; the auction description lists it as 7 1/2" long so I'm thinking it's about 1/48 scale. Front end is kinda Dodge-ish. Might be interesting to kitbash it with the Revell '55 Chevy stakebed for the front clip, chassis and wheels, but I hate to cut up something that may be pretty rare - there's only one other I've seen on the net: http://www.chrispcollectibles.com/mycollection/one_offs/ Plus it has a coin slot on top but I don't see any other way to get the coins out, so a lot of them probably got broken like piggy banks. (If you guys at Missing Link are interested in casting up a few to sell to O-gauge model railroaders, let me know.)
  3. From the "crude but effective" file. I was never a Scout, but when my youngest brother was in the Cub Scouts (and I was 15), I snagged a kit and built a sort of Model T lakester: At that time there were no rules against drilling out wheels to lighten them. My brother won the troop races that night, beating every other car there. Except mine. "WINNER - UNOFFICIAL PINEWOOD DERBY MARCH 12, 1976"
  4. "Timothy" - The Buoys (Don't worry kiddies, Timothy was a mule. Honest )
  5. The trick here (IIRC) is the Ford's front fenders have to be split along the top and widened at the rear where they meet the doors on the Merc body, and the upper part of the doors then reshaped to align with the fenders. Speaking of the Mod Squad woody, one of the sellers I watch on eBay just sold one last Saturday - only $36.00. Looks like the Revell kit took the wind out of its sails.
  6. Which would be from Jackie Brown?
  7. Love that color combination! I take it this was a promo (the kits were molded in white); did you have any issues with that plastic? Are those custom lenses you added to the '61 bezels, or all new? I could use a set of originals if you took them off. (By the way, if anyone else has one of these they're building stock, look for a set of the custom wheelcovers from the original Monogram '55 Chevy - they're actually '61 Ford plus they're 1/24 scale like the Hubley kit.)
  8. Very good, Ray! Did you see it in Australia when you took Driver Education?
  9. That looks like a great builder! (Never understood why they didn't countersink those taillights...) I'd like to combine one of those with the Open Road camper. Take another look at those hubcaps - I'm pretty sure they're from the '60 Plymouth wagon, not the DeSoto.
  10. Hints: Very famous American independent film. Seen by many, many people but hardly anyone enjoyed it. Nobody famous in the cast although a lot of people were dying to be in it.
  11. Great job! She is SO funny. My favorite moment on the show was this exchange between Elvira and Moon Zappa (doing her Ondrea Wolfson bit): Elvira: "I'm a Valley Girl too, y'know..." Moon: "Yeah, Death Valley. Is that your real hair?"
  12. One of those times when I like to say "Now why didn't I think of that?" You don't necessarily need to use the '48 grille; maybe use it as a template to make a '42 grille? It's mostly just thin horizontal bars that follow the same shape. AMT '49 or '50 Ford headlights should give you the buckets and lenses you need. ETA: Check out the shots of the '42 I posted here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94248&hl=1942
  13. I got one out of my '62 Impala convertible with very slow, careful use of a photoetch saw - flat against the glass, teeth cutting into the glue joint. I'd saw a little from both the outside and inside until it met in the middle. Had to do a lot of polishing afterwards; if I'd masked off the glass with Scotch tape it might have helped This might also be a good opportunity to try cutting with thread if you can find a spot to pull it through.
  14. Don't worry about the grille - 330s had four headlamps from the factory like the Polara and 440. The two-light grille was a racing modification.
  15. I just took a look at the trailer I still have unbuilt from the '62 Ford pickup, and compared its chassis to the Open Road camper shell. Looks like it might be a good start on making the camper into a trailer if it were shortened, or you could use it as a base for your own little scratchbuilt camper (I'd like to build the Kenskill from the movie Panic in Year Zero!).
  16. Had a good time (it was sure crowded early on ) and got some good stuff I mentioned on the "What did you get today" thread. Even saw a couple airplanes I nearly bought, but gotta stick to the budget...
  17. Trouble is the bodies are shrunken as well as warped. I have a '58 that's a bit better but it still has that same roof sag (on the passenger side only). I think what you'd need to do to make a decent master is to take the '58 chrome and resculpt a styrene '59 kit or Craftsman body to look like a '58.
  18. I'd like to see that Marti report - usually when folks ordered wagons with huge engines they had a trailer towing package, but in the rear shot I don't see a hitch. Wish I could have gotten my grandfather's last new Ford - it was a '67 Custom sedan with the big block police package, painted Bell Telephone green. (He was the credit manager for the Paducah, KY Ford dealer, so either he could have ordered it special or maybe the phone company canceled the order after it was delivered and he got a deal?)
  19. Made it to the DuPage model swap meet and picked up four cans of various purple pearl and metallics, a prewired distributor from the nice folks at Missing Link, and a very cheap deal on a '66 Fairlane kit (aka early Ranchero/Falcon/Comet chassis donor) - $8.00. Was hoping Okey Spaulding would be there with his Jo-Han goodies, but not this time. Did get to chat with Robert from Chrome Tech USA who was kind enough to answer a lot of detailed questions I had. Not since about 44 years ago. I hope.
  20. Baby got new shoes! And a bath. This is the '61 Falcon I posted a little while back - just got a full set of NOS AMT compact tires and open wheels from a '63 Fairlane (which need to be modded to four-lug or get hubcaps), and stripped off a whole bunch of white paint, followed by some more stubborn blue paint. Thinking of deleting the side trim to backdate it to '60 since I have the grille. As I got it:
  21. Is it 1/18? I have one of the Franklin Mint Eldos and they don't have closed side windows.
  22. The deletion of the working headlight feature is why to this day the engraved headlights look odd in this kit - they stick out from the bezels. Check out a '64 Impala promo grille to see how they should look.
  23. Sign me up for a '73 as well - it was our family's first new car since 1957: (Dark green, white top, green cloth bench seat interior. Taken in '76 - can't believe it's the only photo we have... )
  24. "Well, the Georgia patrol was a-makin' the rounds..." Sweet job with this one! I take it the original master was based on that '49 Olds diecast bank?
