  1. And finally, again from the '50s, on one of those budget knockoff labels, the Scatman does a jazzy take on "Transfusion"!
  2. Now going waaaaaay back... Who'd have thought the Mills Brothers could rock and roll?
  3. One of my all-time favorite covers! Allan Clarke may not be the Boss but who else had the nerve to try it?
  4. Couldn't stand him either. Back in the day I worked as an outdoor mascot for Domino's - fortunately the Noid costume was too small for me (thank God!) so they dressed me up in a tiger suit (Tom Monaghan owned Domino's and the Detroit Tigers then). I'd rather be a tiger than a Noid anytime!
  5. Mayville looks like a nice place, Greg; here's the downtown in 1954:
  6. Aw, man - breakin' my heart! Someone save it before they make more Green Hornet movies! OK if I post this on my car club's FB page? I know some folks there that might want to rescue it.
  7. Absolute stunner, David! I'm surprised it holds together so well with CA glue - I thought JB Weld or epoxy was the only thing that worked on diecast.
  8. I like this - makes me wish I had some of those tools. It is a bit unnerving to see him using that hot knife/soldering iron thing so close to his fingertips. Or is that an ultrasonic cutter? Funny thing is I just spent a chunk of evening dislodging, repairing, and drilling lug bolt holes into an old IMC VW spare tire - maybe I should have time-lapsed it and loaded it to YT, then made a dollar or two from the ad revenue .
  9. Stopped in at Des Plaines Hobby yesterday afternoon to drop off the last few model railroad items of my dad's, and broke down and grabbed the Pontiac GTO Super Stocker. Paying retail is normally anathema to me, but it's a good store and I wanted to give them a little more business before I move back to CA soon. As I've mentioned I built three of them in the late '70s, but with bodies from the AMT '57 Chevy, '56 Ford and '65 Nova. Wonder what I can put on this one? Maybe I'll do my mom's cousin's car, if I can find a color shot of it:
  10. Big surprise Saturday evening - my brother and I were driving east on Willow Road here in Northbrook, about to cross over the Des Plaines River, when a bald eagle swooped down and headed south over the river. I've never seen a bald eagle in this area before! I'll see if I can find out if any nests are known around here. Its size made me think it was a male.
  11. Same with the DVR for me; now if I could just find a way to kill ads on YouTube when I watch it on Roku...
  12. Great mashup of the two bodies, and making it not look like a show car was very inspired! I've had a similar project going with a '62 F-85 coupe, combined with rear quarters and rear roof from a '61 F-85 wagon - really should get that one finished after 40-some years...
  13. I've been looking forward to seeing this stuff; currently the best deal I find is $31.69 shipped from Germany: https://www.ebay.com/itm/393343344314?hash=item5b95171eba:g:54IAAOSw31xf4dFW Do any of our contacts at Revell know when/if we'll be getting it here, and has anyone tried it yet?
  14. Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle! Want, want, want:
  15. Oops - sorry Josh (and everyone else). Here you go: '49 Crosley. Next...
  16. Nope! It is American, if that helps. Not a kit car, either. (I was afraid I'd killed this thread...) Should I just reveal it and pass it to the next person?
  17. I have one too - glad I got it when I did. Odd thing about this interior, though: The Jo-Han '56 Plymouth is a four-door, but this is set up like a two-door, from the door panel length and rear seat armrests - yet it still has rear door handles . Didn't Modelhaus make a '56 Fury hardtop? Maybe they used the master from that kit?
  18. The Niles and Deerfield stores had the remainder of the sale paints moved into the clearance rack; seems like the Vallejo stuff is replacing it. Still no GTO Super Stocker yet (is that one not earmarked for HL?).
  19. Catching fire was the technique I used for stretching sprue, oddly enough - I held the sprue in the flame until it burned in half, blew it out, then jammed the ends together and pulled. I got some very long, thin stretches that way - antenna wires for a 1/48 B-17, using the kit's own silver-gray sprue.
