'Createx' acrylic paint, how to
Richard Bartrop replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's great for T-shirts, but I have no idea how well it adheres to styrene. Really, just get some model paint. -
That Deuce is pretty sweet, and you could get pretty close with the Revel Deuce kit and some part swapping would get you pretty close. Come to think of it, when the time comes to do a refresh of the Revell kit, how much work would be involved in modiying the dies so the axles could use the wheels from the Model A kits? Yeah, I know, we all want the leaf springs and quick change, but it's a start. For all the SBC hate, if the budget would allow for some vintage speed equipment, it would still look pretty good.

That they do, but it never hurts to let them know what we want, and we have been pleasantly surprised in the past. As for what "the market" wants, most of what's supposed to cater to this mythical creature, I have zero interest in buying. Certainly the Riveria is one that seems to be on a lot of people's want lists. I've yet to see anyone turn up their nose at the idea of a Riviera kit.

The big difference between the j and SJ is of course, no supercharger, and no pipes poking out of the hood, though a few Js did get retrofitted with them. A Model j conversion for the Monogram kit would be nice, as would a Deusy kit designed to modern standards. My big ask would be a decent kit of the Auburn 852 Speedster. Also right up there would be a 1/25 kit of the Mercer Raceabout And of course, someone needs to do a 1971 Buick Riviera.

Ever check out the Hot Rod Magazine archives? The aftermarket's been around at least as long as hot rodding. If anything, the '60s was when you started seeing fiberglass T bodies and entire hot rod kits on the market, so it was probably a bit of the aftermarket making it easier, and a little bit fashion, courtesy of the show cars pushing the envelope. I will admit, my inner 10 year old still thinks these things look way cool, but there's no way I'd be crazy enough to try and drive one. Build a model, on the other hand...

A bold move in this market, but I wish them well -

George Klass's site is a gold mine of crazy vintage gasser pics http://web.archive.org/web/20200223131535/http://www.georgeklass.net/index.html -

I got my credit card company to block my payment to them. Someth ing to consider if you haven't done it already
-
Oh, you could, but it would be nice if you didn't have to.
-
Which comes to a minor bug of mine. I would be nice if they could get rid of the pebbly finish on the centres of the Revell 5 spokes. It looks way out of scale on another wise nice wheel

What did you see on the road today?

Depending on what you want to do, the Italeri Rolls also has the standard Phantom II chassis and engine, while the Monogram kit has the LHD PII chassis for the American market. This also means an engine that's a mirror image of the regular PIIs
-
These disc wheels are in the Italeri Phantom II kit, but it would be nice if the aftermarket offered them in resin for the Monogram kits.

Revell 2022 Corvette Stingray C8 Z5
Richard Bartrop replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh, I don't thing it's a bad design, and in certain colours it actually looks pretty good. It owes a lot to what manufacturers like Lamborghini are doing, but GM stylists have been borrowing from Europe literally since Day 1. -

Though I'm clearly not their target audience, I would have preferred fewer folds and creases as well. Mind you, when they finally get around to restyling it, you know people are going to howl about how much they liked the "old" C8. -
It was a bear to get together, but here it is. It's the 1965 stock only version, built out of the box, and finished in Humbrol Midnight Blue.

I bought the Mod Rod for its kitbashing potential. I got at least a couple of projects out of it.
-
At the top of the list would probably be these Lyons aftermarket wheel covers. They were a common sight on vintage rods and customs, but I don't think I've ever seen it reproduced in either styrene or resin. Some bent spoke Kelsey Hayes wires would be nice, especially if they are compatible with the tires on Revell's recent Model A kits.

Goodbye Hot Rod Magazine?
Richard Bartrop replied to Rockford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It does turn out that even Facebook isn't a complete waste of time. Rik Hoving has been posting colour photos from the 1948 LA Roadster Show, and the first Oakland National Roadster Show. https://www.facebook.com/Rik.Hoving.Kustoms
