  1. hello all, after looking at a couple hundred amazing builds on here, I got to wondering how to get more 'depth' on my paint work. after much trial and error, I am to the point of getting smooth paint and good clear coats with nice shine [and almost no dust/debris], but I do not know how to get the 'depth' I am wanting. is it a matter of more clear? or a ton of buffing/polishing? or both? I've searched and didn't really find the answer I was looking for. here is an example of my paint work, it just doesn't have the final look I'm after, any help is much appreciated.
  2. I like the plug wire boot idea, although to expand on it, it seems an automotive wire stripper would speed the process up substantially.
  3. I have a set coming from modelroundup
  4. so Italeri is coming back out with these kits sometime this year, I for one can't wait. anyone 'in the know' as far as to when these will be out on the shelves??
  5. my son works close to the HL, he picked me up one as soon as they got them
  6. that's a good idea. this may help as well, I found this in wal mart, it's for holding spools of thread. I strung some rubber bands between the pegs to keep the jars on it. seems to work ok for me [could use a touch more modifying though]
  7. ordered the p/e kits for both kits I have. gotta find a source for some white stripes now.
  8. Dennis, model master 28139 is the lacquer clear, ultra gloss I can't wait to see how it looks with the hood and fairings in place. gotta do the sleeper interior next......that should be fun...hehe..
  9. i hear ya, i happened to be out of town for work and stopped at the HL where i was and they had it. my 'local' HL only seems to want to stock the mustang kit, they have had 3 of those for what seems like forever. i have 2 of the foose kits now, if my local store ever gets them, i'll probably end up with a third one
  10. thanks guys, that sleeper was a royal pain. Dennis, it's testors lacquer clear, at work now, i'll post the product number later on, it's ultra gloss or something to that effect. i really like it, you can load it on and it doesn't seem to run/sag or pool up, or maybe i am just getting really lucky
  11. i picked one of these up at HL myself last week, same $42 with that lovely coupon
  12. if it's low enough pressure it might work, but the media hitting the plastic creates heat, so it may deform/dis color it. but then again at too low a pressure, you won't get the paint to strip [possibly]. tires look great by the way
  13. looks great so far, keep at it. look forward to seeing updates on this one.
  14. nice job, that's pretty cool.
  15. well, we don't have to worry about that anymore on this one
  16. some progress [and yes, rivets 'died' in this episode ] will probably clear the sleeper again tomorrow night. frame is in color, just need to paint a few more add on bits, and then the wheels and tires can go on. might have a roller soon
  17. beautiful job! looks terrific Alan.
  18. pm me the pic's like you did last time and i'll post them up for ya.
  19. Old Buckaroo, thanks. we had a bit of a mishap with some Samsonite gorillas, but we got it sorted DodgeAddict, thanks as well. would trade with both of these fellas any time. edited for spelling...or lack there of....
  20. crazy I tell ya. new paint [but we didn't do the door jambs, or even the spare wheel, lol] we got her running, but spent no time detailing the engine compartment, or neatening up the wires/vac lines etc. we left the underside 'patina'd' so you can deal with the rust/BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH looking underside, oh and if that's the finished interior, the door panels look like the originals [note the wrinkles and bumps in spots]. oh well, it is what it is, a fool and his money.................
  21. Dennis, said it before, will say it again, that came out terrific, and is going to look great on that low boy.
  22. beautiful model, everything looks perfect, well done.
  23. ya, I hear ya. still manage 50-80hrs in 40, good weeks are when transmission jobs aren't on my lifts, the powertrain warranty is a flat rate killer I find it funny that by the time you know what you're doing and have bought all the tools to do it all, you're burnt out from it.....plus the constant training.......never ends.....and in the dealer environment it seems the more ya know the worse off ya are. and then throw in some high voltage cars.................[spent a ton of hours doing training for the Volt, and now we don't sell them or service them...go figure...]
  24. I plan on being there, not sure if the spring thaw is going to make it though
