  1. Thanks Dan! It's a wonder that the whole chassis doesn't collapse after all the stuff I've thrown at this thing!! lol One thing not often mentioned about the early '80s Monogram muscle car kits, and Monogram kits of the era in general, is how good and easy the decals were to work with. They came off of the paper nicely, had good glue, were easy to position, and never ripped as you handled them. They were nicely elastic - the SS stripes always laid down perfectly over the cowl hood bulge on the '70 Chevelle, same for the stripes on the '65 Shelby. I have never encountered such friendly decals in the years since - which is just nuts. -MJS Man you aint lyin' about those decals! Those have to be some of the most forgiving decals I've ever worked with right there. I thought sure I was going to tear them numerous times but they held up fine.
  2. This looks to be a good conversion WIP. Will be peeking in on this one for sure!
  3. Areas that need to be addressed or not it looks great in primer!!
  4. Thanks Jeremy and Tim: I plan on having it done before I cut my third set of freekin' teeth anyway!! Pat:Thanks brutha!! I found an easier way through Jim Daniels later but I made do with the methods I had for this build. Ben:Thanks man and yes.....I do dislike it ........very much! lol Lawrence:Thanks buddy! First off my gluing skills at 14 years of age aren't what they are now and secondly, There were spots that I had to use some sprue cutters or a new X-acto blade to assist me with the disassembly. It can be done with a lot of patience and perseverance.
  5. I'll make the adjusted end date official here within the day......and you're all good Danny!
  6. Well despite all the stuff goin' on around me I've been able to get this part done. I don't have pics of the underside yet because I've got the wheels in place and the glue is setting up. I am going to have to "unwarp" the frame at the front end. The L/H front tire is up off the ground just a smidgen. It's all a doable thing though. Here's the latest........(the end may be in sight yet!)
  7. That interior detail is killer! I haven't used embossing powder or flock yet but I can tell you that I like the look of the powder alot. I could look at stuff like this for days ! (well hold on..................I do that already!) Great progress and awesome detail work John!
  8. Thanks Dan! I was gonna work on it tonight but my wife and I had a meeting with the adoption agency. Been talking about adoption for a while and just trying to "do" instead of "talk about it". Meeting lasted till 9....no chance on the truck tonight. Will be trying for tomorrow night though.
  9. Thanks Carl! I painted the shocks this morning and glossed 'em. I also glued the differential/ spring assy to the chassis. No pics today but might have some tomorrow. Will definitely have it on wheels by Friday it looks like. I would've had it done by tomorrow but my truck crapped out on me last night on the way home. Lots of fuel and no fire makes the 'ol truck behave funny.....and it didn't make me very happy to get stuck either!! Ah well, I was at least able to get it towed to the house an hour later to be able to fix it in my driveway anyways.
  10. Looking forward to your selection there Danny! BTW your pic is posted in the intro buddy!
  11. I took several Chevrolet Volt and related hybrid vehicle courses last year with GM and found out that the hybrid vehicle racing circuit has been smoking supercars for a while now. The power is instant and seems endless!! I watched a video (and cant remember where it is for the life of me now but am sure with more time I could find it) of what looked like a tin can of a car on electric power smoking a well built and healthy car. I mean that electric ride took off and left the gas powered car. It's all coming out of the experimental phases with just a few more kinks to work out now thanks to modern technology giving way to better powertrain management strategies but it seems that there is definitely a future ahead for these types of vehicles on and off the road.
  12. What he said. Keep it to a simple single engine job to start with there Miles.
  13. Thanks John and youre right. It seems like the 80's Monogram car kits are a bit lacking in detail. The aircraft are the same way but I really like the exterior rivet detail on those. The aircraft kits make for very upgradeable kits because of the rivet detail feature though. 'Preciate it Dan!! I've been called alot of things but not an overachiever! LOL!!! Thanks Tim!!
  14. Acrylics seem to be catching on more and more and this guys got its use down pat! Love the paint work Tim!!
  15. Man you are right about that. You'll hear a hundred different ways but in the end you'll develop your own techniques and styles that work best for you.
  16. I used to run between 10-15 psi all the time and wasn't happy with the results. I found that with cranking the pressure up and thinning my paint down and not opening the needle any further than I just have to it gives me the results I'm after every time. Like I said though , it works for me.
  17. I'm tellin' you guys. You've got it all wrong! That's gotta be an elderly person who mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake pedal. Looks like they got it backwards in this case.
  18. Man those are suuwweeeet!!! I really like the drag version! Awesome detail and paintwork John!
  19. Man it looks good from this angle Bill!
  20. Now that's funny! LOL!! I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. It makes sense though. Why would the fuel lines be run on the opposite side of the engine where the fuel pump is??
  21. Interior looks sharp!!! As others have said, "Good luck in the paint booth this time around."
  22. One of the things that I find most surprising about the chassis of this kit is that despite the accuracy of detail spent on the basic chassis piece ( fuel and brake lines, contours and shape of the fuel cell and other details that I haven't seen on a lot of other kits) is that Monogram totally dropped the ball on the rear suspension/ axle area. Where's the shocks? I had to go to my donor newer Revell Challenger kit for those and they where way too long. This is how long they are.... So I went to work again. We start here: and cut it at the shock sleeve area like so: I cut a little over an 1/8" off of it and drilled into the two halves Then took a pin that I had laying around and glued one end into the lower part of the shock and cut the other half of the pin off to leave about 1/8" protruding out of the lower half and slid the top half of the shock onto the pin and glued 'er in place... I think I can live with the length now. A little more clean up tomorrow on the shocks and some top side mount plates and it's off to the painting process.....
