I love the 30 Model A ford kits... so much hot rod potential

Simple green soak duration for styrene
JTalmage replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not sure if there's much difference but I've let parts and bodies soak in purple power for over 2 weeks with no issues. -
As of last night the chassis is complete. That is the final stance. Back tires stick out just a touch and just barely kiss the fenders. I did everything I could short of narrowing the axle to get them to sit in the fender, but it looks good enough. Also got the front suspension finished as well. Low detail and paint under here. Didnt want a hot rod that didnt see any road time ya know! Steering wheel painted body color and detailed w/ Model Masters chrome silver. I have no idea what kind of Ford that steering wheel is out of. I tried googling all years of fords from the 30's to the 60's and couldnt find a match. So this is the final stance with the firewall glued into the body, and the body and grill just on for test fitting purposes to check firewall to distributor clearance Now I just have to get my interior bucket done. Tamiya pure white is mega thin and runs like crazy.

It's perfect. Absolutely perfect!

I'm guessing from the trucks, that the first truck was an early 50's shop truck that was kept around but showing its age, and the 50's truck is a mid 60's shop truck. I like what you're doing.

WOW! Shane... what a grand slam this thing is!!! I'm in love. The sleeves w/ stock wheels is a genius idea! The color is also outstanding... very good work man

Does Zap-a-gap have a shelf life?
JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That pretty much seals the deal then. It's definitely not fast acting, and most definitely thicker than it used to be. Time to hit the hobby shop... and try not to come out with a model kit lol -
I feel like my green label bottle of Zap hasnt been performing as well lately. Usually it is almost instantaneous... especially on my fingers... and the past few days it seems lacking. I had to actually use clothes pins to hold my parts in place... which I never had to do before. So, just curious if the stuff goes "bad" after a while... thanks

Beautiful!! Saw this one on facebook as well. Probably the best I've ever seen anyone do with this kit! Just gorgeous!

Glad to see you back at it again! I saw some of your updates on the facebook groups. Such great work!

The chassis is almost complete. Have to install the steering components after the axles stay put. Super glue wasn't being so super last night. Anyone know if the green label zap-a-gap has a shelf life? Seems like it wasnt working very well the past few days. I also got the body parts clearcoated too but didnt take any pictures.

Got the new paint on it. A few small imperfections in it. It was very humid when I painted it, so I have a little dust in it. Also added a few of the decals that came in the kit. I also wired up the smallblock chevy and with the intake setup I got from a generous member here. Looks good down in it. Used a M.A.D. distributor in it as well. And a mock up shot just because. I'm really liking this thing. Just can't decide on what color to paint the interior and running boards. I'm thinking flat white for the interior with body color inserts since its tuck n roll interior. And flat white running boards... but I can't decide.

What did you see on the road today?
JTalmage replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wish I would have had time to snap a picture, but this morning on the way to work, I saw 2001 Mustang Bullitt edition with fat/skinny tires on it... Guy musta been driving it to work to take it to the drag strip later today for test n tune. Looked tough for sure. -
A BIG thank you to Pete aka Flatout, who generously sent me a triple carb setup for my '32 Roadster I'm working on out of the kindness of his own heart without hesitation and asked for nothing in return. Thank you sir! and Aloha!

1934 Ford Hot Rod Tow Truck
JTalmage replied to wrecker388's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good to me! I have a couple of these kits still yet to build. I always liked this kit for some reason. -
Dang.. wish I knew this a few weeks ago. I tried to put some decals on a car I was building and they just fell apart when I put them in the water.

I'm terrible at playing but I like "stuff". I love music but I am no where nearly dedicated enough to be any good... but I can collect and admire atleast. Here's what I got. The jazz box is a mid/late 40's Gibson ES150 that my grandpa used to play back in the day. It has flat wound strings and a P90. it's a fantastic machine! The black guitar is my '11 or '12 (I cant remember now) Gibson Les Paul 60's tribute and it also has P90's and it's a growly rock machine. It used to have ivory plastic but I got rid of that stuff and bought black plastic. Looks a lot meaner. Used to look like this: Also had it signed by Unknown Hinson! Then I have 2 Epiphone ET275's (the twin body guitars, sunburst and black) and some offbrand chinese guitar that my dad remembers saying he got it as a "kit" that you put together (guitar on the right) Also have a Squire Bullet, which is essentialy a Stratocaster... and it's also a fantastic guitar, especially since it was free. I enjoy that one the most playing unplugged. And last but not least this monstrosity that I also got for free... a G.A. Pfretzschner aluminum standup bass... This was given to me by a friend who said it was in his garage when he moved in to his house 7 years ago. It's in pretty good shape and he has no idea how long it was in the garage before he moved in. He was moving out and asked if I wanted some stuff he had in his garage and this was part of what he gave me. So I took it home and another friend of mine and I cleaned it up a little and tuned it up, and I thoroughly enjoy playing this thing. I've never played a standup bass before, and I can't keep my hands off this thing. I've gotten pretty good at it too.
