Here's what I managed to get done yesterday before calling it quits so I could get enough sleep. lol I threw the front end/hood/interior on it just to see what it would look like... I cannot wait to finish it. Managed to cut off the molded on distributor and replaced it w/ a M.A.D. distributor. I chose a tan cap and yellow wires for that 80's Accel ignition look! Only thing I didnt like about the M.A.D. distributor is it didnt come w/ a hollow piece of tubing for the boots. So Luckily I had one leftover from a motorcycle I built for a friend, since I didnt have time to sit and strip the core out of the wire it came with. Got it mounted in the chassis Detailed the dashboard and painted the trim black Aaaaand thats when I thought it would be a good idea to sleep

Judging by the valve covers that's not an FE, but just a basic smallblock with dual quad carbs and an FE style aircleaner like on a shelby. Common practice back in the day. But it's definitely a 260 or a 289.

Casting; 1 piece or 2 piece?
JTalmage replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd love to learn how to resin cast. I want to make copies of Duvall windshield frames. -
I think it's more of the paint leeching into the plastic. Duplicolor paint is meant for cars and is a little "hotter" than hobby paint when it cures. And lacquer is especially chemically hot when it cures. Could be the reason. I use Tamiya clear and it goes on smoother and more beautiful than testors one cote in my opinion. And duplicolor clear hazes over for me. And I don't like buffing model cars so I don't use it.

I'm calling it. Life kept getting in the way this weekend. I have been waiting for the go ahead to apply for a new job that a friend of mine gave me the heads up on so that took some time today to prepare for, then had to return a tool to a friend. I'll post tonight's doings tomorrow. Good fun though. Still proves I can crank out a decent looking kit in under a week. Should be done with this one by Tuesday I'd say. I'm pretty proud of that. Haven't done that in years.

Thanks, the spoiler looked ok during test fit but final assembly made the hatch stick out towards the back too much. Nothing I could do for it. And for some reason the air cleaner makes the hood stick up a little. The color is a spray can of duplicolor from the auto parts store. Advance Auto in particular

Here's that basket case of a kit finally finished! Found out that zap-a-gap and this kit didnt get along too well. had a touch of hazing on the side glass where the mirrors mounted. Also when pressing the glass into place, it cracked almost all the way down the drivers side window, and the paint shows some deeper scratches and low spots that the primer ultimately didnt fill But for just a quicky I think it turned out great! I'm just glad to have a good looking 4eye'd mustang on my shelf! Let me know what you think!

Bringing this one back from the dead... I got the bug to work on this thing after deciding I wasnt going to go with an original color anymore. So I had to let it soak in purple power for quite a bit... that rustoleum is nasty stuff when it tries to come off. This was the end result of the purple pond After a little sanding and cleanup I went ahead and got it ready for its final paint job.... in Sonic Blue I glued the hoodscoop on and the spoiler that I made also. At this point I just wanted the car done so it was a little of a rush job, but it was never mean to be a show winner. So after a few coats of primer, I hit it with Duplicolor Sonic Blue from the 03-04 Mustang Cobras. Looks great I think! So then I detailed the trim in black Hard to get good shots of it I also detailed the dash! The rest is under glass!

Sorry for the late update. I don't get on my PC much during the weekend. But here's where I'm at so far! I've had some pretty big gaps in building the past few days. Had errands to run friday, and went to the junkyard today for some parts for my Mustang... but the project is still coming along nicely. Here's the kit so you can see it was fresh out of the box when I started Did a lot of cleanup on this old kit.. and it needed it. Got the body primed Look closely enough, and you'll see FOUR Mustang's in this picture LOL Another shot of primer And a light first coat of Tamiya bright red So Friday evening when I put the first coat of red on it, it was VERY humid out and my paint hazed over. So I resprayed it all today and it looks fantastic. It's already in clear. Not sure if I want to use the decals from this kit or not though.... if so then I'd have to clear it again So then I very carefully white lettered all of the tires... and I mean CAREFULLY! Then shot them in flat clear.

This^^ I own a hot-rodded 93 Mark VIII Although for some reason I thought the super coupe/XR7 had a clutch fan still due to the narrow radiator since the intercooler took up half the space? But I could be wrong. I havent seen under the hood of my buddy's 95 Tbird SC lately. I think the older Revell 5.0 powered Cougar lowrider would have the correct fan as it was an MN-12 platform car.

Thats beautiful. I'd love to find that kit too. -
Another successful trade w/ James Maynard. Great communication and no hassles. Thanks man!

Thanks folks. I can't believe I forgot to clean up the casting lines on the back of the trunk lid. I went over this whole car cleaning up the body before paint... completely overlooked that one. Pictures really bring it out too... whoops.

Applying Clear Lacquers
JTalmage replied to Miatatom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use Tamiya clear now. I've all but abandoned Testor's regular clears, and heck their regular paint too. I used the wet look clear once, and was not happy with the turn out of it. I personally don't like wetsanding and buffing my models after paint, and I've found that for me, Tamiya's clears go on really well and smooth compared to testors' orange peel look no matter how I do it. -
Standardize Wheel Attachment
JTalmage replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you wanted your model to "roll" freely... I could see this being a good point... however, they sit on a shelf... I am past the point of playing w/ them lol... so zap-a-gap is my best friend when making wheels and tires fit right regardless of where they came from. -
And some more, on a trailer! Enjoy!

And some outdoor pics! This color really comes out in the sun!
