I need to thank James Maynard again for some charger parts! good dude!

I have reached my maximum capacity on kit storage. So no more for me for quite a while. Although if I did get another kit, it would be a 2nd 29 roadster, or the 80 ford f150

No kidding. I checked out bing maps birds eye view and you can see plain as day the old town of St. Thomas. And many of the foundations of houses, intersections and cross streets of the town still... after all those years! Some of the street paths go almost all the way across and up and down Lake Mead!

Scale Custom License Plates
JTalmage replied to FASTBACK340's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep. Use ACME's maker, and then print them on glossy photo paper and cut out w/ a small pair of scissors. Make sure you dump the image into a word doc or mspaint and resize to .5 long and .25 tall. Works like a charm -
What do you do when they ask?
JTalmage replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't have a problem building kits for people. I enjoy it. But if they want crazy custom work, or some sort of period piece I'll tell em how it is as far as materials price. Especially if I have to get the paint custom mixed. My local body shop supply house can mix paint and put it in a rattle can for me so I've done that before. I have a guy wanting me to build a '57 Chevy Nomad in the style of Dean Jefferies or George Barris... I said man I'm not that good with plastic and customizing but I'll give it a go. I havent charged him anything yet in case I screw it up, but for folks wanting a simple paint job and nice wheels, I'll ask for money up front for supplies. Typically I'll barter the labor in building... if you can call it labor. I turn the TV on and build. But in most cases, I tell people don't be in a hurry for them though. If they rush me, I am not inclined to build it. I think you oughta build him his chevelle. He cared a lot for the car and wants something to remember it by, and feels that you're an expert enough to finally let him have his chevelle with nice paint he always wanted. -
Thank you. I really love this model. I think I want to find another and paint it ice white now.

Lmao!!! This is awesome! The workmanship and the subject! The jet engine strapped to the roof with rope cracks me up!!!

I meant to post this story about a week ago but forgot... So on August 16th I was at an antique machinery show checking out some old tractors and stuff, and I felt like that morning it was going to be a good day. I put on my NMRA World Finals @ Beech Bend raceway shirt and headed over to the show. While at the show I was wandering thru the flea market they had set up, and a guy had some old models for sale. So I picked up an old '54 Chevy "Hot Rod" edition for $20. After the show I went home and I intended to weld the cowl on to my '88 Mustang project. I was sitting around winding down from the day at the show out in the hot weather when a friend of mine posted on my facebook that the guys from Roadkill were on their way down to Bowling Green, KY to Beech Bend Raceway (I ironically had that shirt on) and that they were passing thru Cincinnati on the way from the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit! They were to arrive in about an hour and a half, so I jumped up and hopped in my truck and ran over to Springdale where they were making a pit stop! There was already a welcome committee there waiting! Then..... They pulled in... Driving their new Dodge Charger Hellcat dubbed "General Maintenance". This was the Charger they drove in the episode where they thrashed the Charger, Challenger, and Viper on the motocross track! Here's David Freiburger, after he ran inside to eat some tacos, talking to the crowd thanking them for showing up and he started passing out stickers and signing autographs And here's Mike Finnegan signing autographs and talking to people as well So I snapped some pics with the guys, they were super cool and very nice and total car guys. Very willing and happy to talk to anyone and everyone Mike loves v8 jet boats... and so he gravitated towards the owner of this thing The owner of the burrito restaurant that invited them down also had a beautiful Lark wagon and so they hopped in it for a picture with him Then they had to get going so they hopped back in their Hellcat and said their goodbyes and thank yous, and took off! So during the meet and greet I remembered I had that model car I bought at the tractor show earlier, and I grabbed it from my truck and they were gracious enough to autograph the box for me. David even said "wow, I remember when they first started making these things!" And of course, I had to come away with some merch too!

I'd love to have a '68 4 door (suicide rear doors!) model. I had one given to me when I was younger, and it had been sitting for many years and mice chewed thru the tires. it was purple with a black top and black interior and had a 429 under the hood. Only thing I ended up w/ was the 429

How to do mild weathering?
JTalmage replied to Kit Basher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
a flat clear acrylic spray applied with a few light dustings will also create a dusty/dry effect. -
Small world. And that sounds like it would be a killer project! This car was actually built for Gene to replicate his old 02 GT or whatever year it was that he used to road race.

Thanks folks, and yes I did use the original kit 2pc tires. I painted them testors "rubber" and then painted the whitewalls. Tedious but worth it.

Thanks folks. There were some fitment issues I couldn't do anything about. Like the rear bumper having more of an acute angle than the body. Which is why it has small gaps on the sides. The side trim was a little flakey as well. But overall a fun kit to build especially in the short amount of time that I did it. I was a little sloppy when handling it due to an alcoholic drink I mixed during the build. Lol so I took some polish to it this morning on the back to get rid of finger prints. Which also took off the chrome on top of the rear bumper! I panicked and eventually used strips of BMF to fix the issue.

Thanks folks. I wish it was mine! It will go to its home soon!

And some outside shots...

I bought this kit recently and it's been staring me in the face each time I looked at my stash of cars and so I just couldnt stand it anymore. I pulled it out of the closet and got to work. This build probably only took me 5-6 hours from start to finish. If that. The inspiration for this came after recently googling images of the Lincoln Futura and I found pictures of a faded out red one all dilapidated outside of the shop of George Barris, and thought to myself wow that must have been beautiful when it was new. I chose not to use the figures that came with it. I'm not a huge fan of figures with cars for some reason. So in the box they go for another time. I painted the chassis originally with Model Masters silver blue... but it ran soo bad I had to wipe the chassis down with lacquer thinner. Once that dried I used what was left of my Tamiya red.... and had JUST enough to finish. Anyway, enjoy!

Help on how to post images from links
JTalmage replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I am having an issue w/ posting pics from my phone. I dont know if it's this site or Photobucket... but each time I copy a link from photobucket while on my phone (where I do the majority of my posting) I get this when I paste the link: "this HTML class. Value is [URL=http://s103.pho" ...and thats it. If I post from a PC no issues. If I paste the link into a text message on my phone, no issues. If I paste it to facebook, no issues. Just here. Very strange. -
I ordered parts in mid April, and got them in late June. And couldnt have been happier. It is indeed worth the wait.

Great looking work! I have the same kit, always wondered what I should do with it.
