Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang
vamach1 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I got bored and sorted out the parts to my 71-73 AMT and MPC kits. I think I should seek some obsession counseling. -

Completed it should look something like this. I'm interested in seeing the changes to the crappy AMT engine compartment. -

Reissue of Warren Tope's '73 Trans-Am Mustang

Sorry but I see the same 428 engine and 429 valve covers that showed up in the Testors diecasts knockoffs of this mold. What I don't understand is Ford won a of races in 69/70 Body in white fastbacks painted to look like Boss 302's and were raced with a Boss 302 and there has never been a 1/24 or 1/25 model of an of those TransAm cars. As much as I love 71-73 Mustangs this version raced by Tope did not win any races ever. They were still using the 70 Mustangs in the 71 TA series but the Big three had pulled most of their sponsorship by then. The series limped along a few more years but the interest died out. The only thing that makes is sense is it's cheaper to reissue and old mold w/o any changes then to re-tool the 70 Monogram Boss 302 into a true TA race car that won a lot of races, -

Cruz, JC and I have known Brad for many years. I've bought several items from him but we have the luxury of seeing him in person almost every month and if we want to buy something we simply have to ask if he has the item in stock and if not how long it would take to get it. I have no idea who else is ahead of me in line an how long they have been waiting. Except for the Daytona Coupe kit everything else I bought was at one of the NNL shows where he brings out some excess inventory to sell. I'm sorry that you were not able to get what you wanted in a timely manner. Nine months ago I sent off some unique pieces to another resin caster to see of they were interested is copying them. I'm still waiting but I'm in no hurry, I 'm so far behind in building anything that I can move on to one of a few dozen other projects while I'm waiting.

JC can chime in but I think it's pretty close to pictures I have of the Daytona cars. You can research stuff to death and always finds flaws in any kits. I do recall changing the wheels and using Fred Cady decals but otherwise the kit is stock.

Aurora kit built maybe 20 years ago. The body panels fit better than the IMC kits but as The junkman said it is a 65 MKI that ran that season after Shelby took the reigns.

It's about time they brought back the 71-73 hood scoop design. -

MPC MKIV engine

Rolex 24 at Daytona - Saturday 2:00 pm on FOX
vamach1 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the reminder. -
Technically I think the MKIV's were made to race in only one year (1967). The rear engine transaxle will be harder to source than a 427 engine which was the same engine used in the MKII's.

I think part of the problem is the re-sellers advertise his products when they really do not have them in stock and have to wait for Brad to ship them to them and then be reshipped to the customer. Ideally Brad would sell direct via a website or Ebay but that isn't his expertise. With specialty products like his I would call and ask if the product is in stock and only pay for if it is. That's my two cents.

Best 1/25 Ford 351 Cleveland engine?
vamach1 replied to br67's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Do you all agree this is a 4v 351C? From looking at it closely I am certain it is. Since I only have one of this particular engine, would anyone out there be interested in casting some copies? I would provide the block/heads/water pump tranny as shown in one piece and the two stock valve covers and oil pan. All the other pieces (starter, pulley, fan blade, oil filter, exhaust manifolds, distributor, carb, air cleaner. alternator, etc. could be sourced from many other Ford kits. Any takers? -
There aren't many alternatives to these two kits and one of these are on my list to add to my collection.
