  1. Nice work Lee. I too bought a few of these cabs and was going to use the Dodge as a donor for one, and a Ford C600 for the other. The Flintstone cabs are a lot nicer casting than some of the other 3000 cabs Ive found over the years. As far as the cab height, I have seen a tandem 3000 in a hendrickson susp ad that was sitting kind of high like that. Just call it a White 3000 Hi-mount!
  2. Which Revell 359 are you referring to? The snap together kit, or the glue kit? Can you post a pic of what your hung up on?
  3. As much as Im a sucker for collecting kits, nah...
  4. That would be a Brockway also. Entirely scratchbuilt. The winch is from AITM, and I resin cast the cab and the tires. The frame rails and spoke wheels are from an Autocar kit. The red Brockway was a reject cab, so I went the weathered and rusted route. That one was a kit bash junk box build. Mack frame, hendrickson susp, GMC astro spokes, etc.
  5. You are correct, Im a lefty.I have a lot of re-strung right handed guitars that I play upside down.
  6. Thanks JT. Thats a coat of black stain, then go back over it with some fine paper to take the stain off where it doesnt absorb, then go over that with some clear poly. The rest is safety red as usual!
  7. Thanks for all the kinds words guys. The trucks are all back on there shelves now. One day I hope to have a space as big as my shop just to display everything. And Tom, it will definitely have a truck stop diorama. And since a few asked about the guitars
  8. Very nice trucks Jesus. That Ford came out great. The lowboy looks great also.
  9. Thanks guys, looking at these things makes me happy. And yes Brian, I do build/refurbish/restore guitars also. Those two racks are some of my current projects.
  10. My display are was getting kind of dirty, so I pulled most of my models down and cleaned them, and then cleaned the shelves. It was nice to have them all layed out, so I figured Id share some pics.
  11. Nice work Lee. Its looks good with the split rim alcoas. Are you going to backdate the headlights also?
  12. Awesome build Tom.
  13. Im referring to the single flat sheet back wall that fits inside of the back half of the cab. This is the piece with the cutout that exhaust runs through. If you dry fit it, you should see the gap Im talking about. Maybe youll get lucky and not have a gap, but all if mine have. Ill try to take a pic later.
  14. There are no resin cabs available that Im aware of. There is a 1/24 1935 diecast Mack firetruck made by YatMing that has this same gril, hood, and fenders. That can be paired with the Monogram Mack ac kit, and your most of the way there. Start searching for that fire truck on ebay. I got a real good deal on one. The grill is nice and its got the accurate Mack emblems that would be very hard to make.
  15. Wow, I didnt realize this was under glass already. Brian, what a superb build man. This truck is flawless. The body work on the cab, and that black paint look like glass. There are so many things that set it apart. The stacks, the dual Farrs, the wood deck, the sunvisor, are just a few of my favorite details. I wish this was a real rig! Excellent, super, amazing work man. I would put this truck in front of a spread axle flatbed, or a black and green 53' van. I know its going in a display case, and you probably dont have room for all of that, but it would look great.
  16. No criticism here Brian, that thing looks great! Its sure stout! I love all of the changes made. Its good to see something different done with this kit.
  17. To offer a very non-helpful answer they are both equally easy and equally a pain! I think the FL is a little bit of a better kit though. The best thing to do is as you said, sand off the rivets. They are very incorrect and there are way too many of them. What I find helpful with these multi piece cabs is lapping the back of the joints with a very thin strip of styrene. This really helps hold the joints together and keeps them from popping back apart while your doing all of the body work on the cab. I usually use Evergreen styrene .020 x .250 to lap these joints. One side of the back cab wall needs to be shimmed as it to not wide enough to fill the gap. The cab can be squeezed to fit it, but this will distort the cab. Other than the cab, the FL kit builds nice. The frame mounted exhaust is easier to fool with than the Pete, and less bad fitting parts in the rear suspension than the Pete. There is a nice Photo etch set out there for the FL that has accurate cab hinges(that hinge to the frame and not the grill) and other nice peices.
  18. Lee, nice continuing progress. The trucl looks great. I agree with the idea of a subrame under the bed. Here are some pics of the spoke wheels I built. These are made with the spoke wheels that come in the 26 Mack AC kit, and pieces used from other spoke wheels. Here is a 5 spoke Here is a 6 spoke that still needs the Mack center cap
  19. Thanks Lee. I dont want to hijack anymore of your thread. If you want to check out anymore heres the link.
  20. Lee, you are exactly right. Its an AK winch truck that was converted to diesel. I was building them both at the same time with a backdated lowboy.
  21. Thanks Lee, and yes Dave is always a big help. Funny thing is, I was using that same Ringling bros photo as reference also. I was making good progress on mine until I started scratchbuilding the older spoke wheels like on this truck. I got a master ready for casting, then put it all away. Your build is making me want to pull it back out.
