  1. @Force, great pics. Do you have per chance a shot or two of the black hot rod from the next to the last pic? I think I like it.
  2. I agree with Bill and think carbide burs get better results with aluminum. Diamonds smear, carbide cuts. I like the cross hatched burs. For adjusting things after getting the aluminum close to the size needed, touch things up with a rubber wheel, this makes the cut smooth and shiny. The same burs work well with resin too. Just about all of my model work is done with these few. The fatter bur in the pic is the best one for all metal and resin. About 15k rpm's is a good start.
  3. Roger, that's a very convincing build and wonderfully done. Great attention to detail and the subject is original, I really like this model. What's even better, no Hemi. Small block Mopars can really run quick, amazing how quick too! Excellent!
  4. Thanks Alan. "Upcharging" is what it's called, good to know. I contacted the Shop about this postage discrepancy and received a really lame answer, I'd love to post the name openly but choose not to do such. I like that you're online shop offers postage cost and handling charges before the order is final. This is important when ordering from outside the US as it leaves no surprises or false information. A customer should know ahead of time what he's being charged. So, good work MegaHobby, thanks for joining us here.
  5. Good to hear Clayton, sounds like you not only have a shiny hiney but a smiley facey too. You deserve a better time nowadays, and soon your former woes will disappear. I like reading about the "thumbs up" deal. Don't laugh now, but my "hot rod" is a Vespa scooter, I love riding in the city with this thing, quick as heck too off the lights, the motor has been hopped up. This morning I was riding along a vintage 50's Vespa, fully restored and it looked fantastic. An older type dude like me was riding and I gave him a thumbs up and his grin spoke chapters about his pride. Good stuff, and I'd give you a compliment too if I were to see a rig like yours.
  6. This is a good topic and I've read all of the replies, and can agree to almost all. Criticism is not an easy thing to offer, or even provide. Personally, I don't like praising just for the sake of making a comment. I do like to show enthusiasm when a model shows something exceptional. When a guy my age (60+) shows what he obviously feels like is his best effort, no way could I criticize thick plug wires or wobbly wheels. I like it though, when the guy asks for thoughts or "what could I do better". That's a good point in my opinion. Communication is often lacking, plus the absence of a clear written thought has me often walking away. I can't believe sometimes, I'm reading English from an American, but cannot understand the abrupt short brain farts he's trying to convey. So, if the model is good, and the guy asks specifically for thoughts, if I see something then I'd like to comment. I have an ongoing project and am grateful for answers when I specifically ask for thoughts, or opinions. Thanks to those who do so, this helps a lot. Bottom line, I don't like telling a guy his model has issues. He won't like it, then I'm not happy. We don't have to criticize. But we like to show, and look at pics.
  7. Steven, I hear that! Last time I ordered from US, the merchandise was $80, the shipping was $55. Then it gets here and I can pick it up at Customs after paying another 19%, from the total. Meaning also from the postal charges! Not good. Strange though, I was charged $55, but the stamp on the box read $34. Hmm, makes one wonder. Not from MegaHobby though. MegaHobby delivered in 7 days, a new record! MegaHobby has a great website.
  8. Hey Clayton, good to hear you're busy driving. So how does it drive? Getting lots of lookers? Any good looking things flashing when they drive by?
  9. That kind of heat seems ridiculous We haven't had a single day this summer that's been over 80. The heaters are still on. Supposed to be high 80's though for the upcoming couple of days, with more rain on Sunday.
  10. huh? A little more humor instead of embarrassment might serve you well. Sorry Alan for posting my outrageous request.
  11. Hello Alan, great that you're here on the forum. Like lots of guys here, I'm one of your customers too. You have a great online shop. Ahem, so what about that online discount for forum members? OOps did I say something? Greetings, Michael
  12. What do you mean "back to sanding"? Are you changing the color? Looks like a great paint job to me.
  13. Looking good Dan. Thanks for the tips too.
  14. Brian , the visor is just sick. This rig kills me. I love it.
  15. Thanks Dan for the info. Another question then: What is the surface like? Do fingerprints show? Could the finished part be slightly touched up if necessary? In other words, what is the surface like after treatment? Lets say it gets a scratch during final buildup, what will you do? It looks very good, I like! Great choice for a finish, it makes the model stand out from the usual, and adds quite a special touch. I like the graphite smooth look, I'm thinking for the future, brass-framed Fuel Altered drag cars. I know the graphite gray paint is a good color for a model, instead of black. Thanks for the input.
  16. Dan, that's a great looking finish. Did you paint the dump body first? Powder? I don't know anything about this stuff, how do you apply it? What's the brand name for the stuff? The finish and sheen look real, I like it!
  17. Great mods Terry. Nice solution with the rear windows. Question: How do you go about marking the lines for the window cutouts? Did you just let the cab rest on a flat surface and measure the height and width, like with a caliper or some kind of other sliding type device? Are the lines from a lead pencil or similar? The measuring/cutting is such an important step, and it looks like you have a good procedure. Could you give some insight?
  18. I don't comprehend what Pat said just above. The boxer was a true talent, for sure. I was drafted back then, actually doing fairly well in a Florida University, what a shock. Welcome to life. Better now what Harry said, "No politics guys".
  19. x2. I'm kind of wondering what he's up to next. Those fuel tanks are killer, great work Brian.
  20. Hi Rich, be happy your work keeps you from playing around. You'll get to the hobby when you have the time, we'll be looking out.
  21. Ha, great to read another rookie is getting hooked on big rig trucks! Rob, I'm enjoying this and also that so many "truck things" are new to you as well, good stuff. I'm hooked too. We'll get it done together, lots of stuff to build out there.
  22. OoooKaaay. Guys, we have a cool looking dump truck here. Dan, my truck knowledge is lacking, when I read black fenders I thought, "oh now, how could you"? Now I see it and this rig is really classy in my opinion. Great color choices. I like.
  23. Excellent Clayton. What a beautiful rig. The trailer, that would be one of those "pups" we talked about, right? Knowing that in your area there are lots of custom trucks, I still bet your rig gets it's share of looks too. Thanks for the pics, that would be a great subject to make a model from.
