  1. Yeah, they're a mite expensive, but go to any high-end electronics shop and that's all you'll see. Stick your finger between the vise jaws.. You can tighten this baby in such fine increments, its rare to break a fragile part in it. You can get metal jaws as an option, but the plastic ones that come with the vise work better for just about all applications. In fact, tool geek that I am, I've never needed any of the optional bases or heads Panavise offers. So I 'saved' money right there.
  2. I've had mine for many years. It's a suction-base model but I ended up deep-sixing the rubber gizmo because it wouldn't work reliably. Now, with just the metal base it has become a most-used tool on my bench. With any vise, find one that you can close the jaws together without any 'slop'. The Panavise has a fine adjustment with no slop. Btw, the model you have pictured is THE one to get.
  3. Nobody's trying to be uncivil here, I don't see why it would be locked. In my travels I've seen/met some women who are incredibly talented miniaturists -Be it scale models, dollhouse furniture, scratchbuilt figures, propmakers. I admire anybody who has the patience, creativity, and skills to make something small look 'real'.
  4. Beautiful job, sir. Did you make the steering linkage rom metal?
  5. ...Gotta ask.. Is there a sheet of plywood under the driver's side floorboard? Most bugs in that shape lost their rubber door seals and water rusted away the floorpan. Great model!
  6. Not to be a buzzkill, but not many of the fairer sex seem to like the hobby. Really, why is that?
  7. I'll bet that this guy RULES at the local go kart track.
  8. Amazon sells Bleche-Wite, now under the Black Magic brand.
  9. I don't think that's a fireplace, but a vent column for the stovetop.
  10. Even though I already have a few '53 AMT Studes, I was so stoked with the Mr Speed release I had to buy one ..It's an old friend, that box. I have a wall hanging in progress with several old boxes that kits I loved came in, including my first model ever. Just like great old books read over and over, All Hail to the illustrators who helped shape my dreams back through the years.
  11. Some of my swap meet finds do. Airfix also had/has a program like that.
  12. This year, I'll be giving garage manufacturers like Fireball and Scale Scenics a good bit of tire orders. In part because I'm making more aggressive models like rock crawlers and also some period things like CJ 3B Jeeps.
  13. I have a few 1/32 Airfix Beetles from maybe 15 years ago. I bet that's the scale the upcoming one is.
  14. Good proportion and just enough detail. Tastefully restrained. Excellent work.
  15. I use a set of punches that are convex. Got them from Rio Grande, a pricey silversmith shop in New Mexico. Used on the SIDE metal of a soda can, works really well.. Harbor Freight also sells hollow punches and a nice Doming Block for reasonable. That'll do it too.
  16. You'll like this kit. It's one of the best Lindberg made.
  17. I don't have Facebook. How much for the resin engine, and how would you like to be paid?
  18. Dry Transfers, Letteraset brand can still be found some places. The armor and train guys still use it.
  19. I eep a small tube of Carmex (petroleum jelly) nearby. A small dab in the jar threads and all's well.
  20. Pretty day in Phoenix. Snow level predicted to be 2000' last night, but at 1500', it's sunny here. 47F, Canadians still drive lousy.. No big 'ting..
  21. Well, I now know what "over the hill" really means. I got back in touch with all the Moonlight guys this year, and illness kept me from the majority of the meetings ..ratz. I'm keeping a stiff upper lip. Hopefully '15 will mean better health. Got several fun builds goin', Got a Wife who digs me. Life is good, after all.
  22. I find the PROXXON tool to be much better made for the price. Amazon has them.
  23. I recently bought a nice set of five golden taklon brushes for 2.50 with the 50% coupon.
  24. I get around 20 packages a month from Amazon, and most all come by USPS.
