  1. Very nice work! Thanks for sharing that. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
  2. I did it that way, because, when I built "The Bug", that's how it was done, so, I did it out of familiarity. When I was looking for photos, it became apparent that guys mounted them in whatever way worked for them. It's not too late to change it, if it sits too high!
  3. I had to move the rear crossmember up. The car was just going to sit too high, if I hadn't. I have the rear suspension mostly worked out.
  4. Cool project. I remember when these things were EVERYWHERE! I have a 1/43 KW I converted to a day cab (with a stubby bumper) and a set of doubles, for it. Most of the major conversion work is done, including the dolly. I look at it, every once in a while, but haven't worked on it in a long time.
  5. That is a mean looking Porsche. Very nice work! Thanks, Snake and Bruce. I appreciate it!
  6. Thanks, Rusty! I was thinking Kilz was shellac-based. Thanks for the confirmation. I think that is exactly what I will get! Mr. Geary recommends it, as well.
  7. Yeah, it's just a curbside, but, this is the one that grabs my attention, every time I look at the display case. The only thing I would change, were I to do it over, would be to omit the tach. I don't hate it, it's just a little obtrusive.
  8. That's very cool! Where did the tank come from?
  9. Thanks, Tom. Those springs go right along with the Rolls axle I found for the project. The quarter-elliptic springs just scream "early race car".
  10. Thank you, Craig! I am always happy to know when I can inspire someone, or just have an idea that helps them move a project along. Nice work, too, sir!
  11. Yeah, the paint mishap kind of took the wind out of my sails. That said, the Firebird is still sitting petty much front and center on the workbench, just waiting for me to wet sand. I lost another chip of paint off the spoiler, and am waiting for a chance to get the hardware store to pick up a can of shellac. Don Fahrni ran into a problem like this one, and was able to brush shellac into the chipped-out area, sand that off level, then tape and respray the area. When he was done, you couldn't tell. Of course, he was Don Fahrni, and I am just...well...me!
  12. The output shaft is enclosed in a steel tube, there is no floor over it. There were a few rare exceptions, but, generally, the chassis, itself was the suspension. The front axle was mounted on torsion arms.
  13. That's exactly how I do brass tube. It works pretty effectively. One of these days, I am going to figure out a way to create a simple tubing notcher. Commercial units appear to use hole saws. I've been pondering this for quite a few years, now, I just haven't figured it all out, yet.
  14. The injector manifold is, well, wrong! The stacks should be together, like a small block. I guess they figured they already have a Hemi injector manifold.
  15. I got the reinforcing ribs added to the wheel "cutouts". Also mounted the spring brackets to the backing plates. The Winfield head is coming along...
  16. I have been working on a couple of things: First, I drilled the engine side cover to accept brass model RR bolts. As you can see, the bit (it was in the Dremel, mounted in the drill press) skipped in a few spots. On one of the holes, I was obviously a bit too aggressive, and ended up with an out-of-place hole. I will have to figure a way to disguise that! I also mage a pair of castings forthe brakes from a two-piece mold I made. I didn't do much cleanup on these, other than to sand off the mold lines. After that, I just washed them, and shot them with Testor's metalizers--stainless for the drum, titanium for the backing plate. I'm pretty happy with the way they came out. Questions, comments, critiques always welcome! Thanks for looking!
  17. Hahaha! There are two chances of that happening: Slim and none!
  18. Thank you, Jim. That illustrates just how versatile one of these machines can be. I reckon I'll need to set aside some time to delve into mine!
  19. Hey! That could be a thing!
  20. Bad Motor Scooter--A classic!
  21. "One looked like a can full of worms, the next one looked like malaria germs..." Sammy Hagar has "Trans Am" and, of course, "I can't drive 55". While it's not a car, UFO's "Can You Roll Her" mentions a Vincent Black Shadow. Neil Peart's inspiration for "The Red Barchetta" came from a short story entitled "A Nice Sunday Drive" in Road & Track, I believe. I have read the story, I just can't recall which magazine it ran in. I would mess my drawers, if I ever saw anyone doing Rush, for karaoke! Good job, by you!
