Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All speculation and personal opinion that does nothing but stir up more speculation and doom and gloom predictions about "What might happen". I think we would all be better served waiting for something official from the new company or information from people with actual knowledge rather than ramble on and on with little to no information to base it on. -
Please accept my sympathies on the passing of your mother, I went through the same thing 2 years ago and while the pain has subsided, there are days that are tougher than others. Think of the happy, fun times and as you noted, she led a full life so make sure you remember her that way. Best way to honor her is live life and enjoy everyday, that is what my Mom reminded me to do before her passing.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In an email from Jack at Modelroundup, he mentioned that there would be a period of 90-120 days where they would not be able to get Revell kits while the new company sets up distribution. The big news in the last couple of months has been the change in ownership of Revell and details are still sketchy about what to expect next. We have reached out to many of our contacts in the industry, and the only thing we know for sure is that they have a new German Owner. Distributors have been told not to expect any shipments from Revell for the next 90 to 120 days. Our best guess is the company will re-emerge this Fall and inventory will begin to ship again. We will continue to update you as we hear more news. Knowing this situation with Revell was coming, we tried to stock up on whatever Revell kits we could find. We expect their former product plans and announcements to be executed, but at this point no one seems to know anything for sure. -
That's great Bill, but I am getting the sense that the OP doesn't have the skill set to bring dead engines back to life and my comments were meant to guide him towards an easier solution. Yes, the only way he will learn is to actually do it, but at what cost? You are assuming the 440 and 727 are perfectly good, yet they haven't been run in years and could be seized up for all you know.

1956 Ford F-100

Always enjoy whatever you crank out of the workshop Chuck! This one is a really nice ride, love the changes you made and as usual, the weathering looks great! -
Ollie's strike again

Definitely less variety this time around compared to the last couple of times they had models. It will be interesting to see if they get more models in to move and if so, which ones. I did not see anything that was of interest to me, although I was tempted to snag a couple of pre-decorated Vettes and Camaros for when the little nephews come through town. -
Revell Ford Bronco questions

A 3 and a half inch lift in 1/25 scale is not going to raise the model very much, should fit inside the display case. -

Carl, Please re-read what James wrote- Ford is being difficult about getting paid some licensing fees. That's it. Blitz isn't going to assume the current licensing agreement, which could mean they want to negotiate new ones, likely with better terms. It's also possible they don't want to offer any more Ford product, but if you look at their catalog of kits (new and old), I doubt they would walk away from selling Ford kits. Until something is announced from the company itself, speculating on what COULD happen or making blanket statements like yours only feeds the hysteria that this subject has become. -
My opinion- who gets chosen is subjective and likely based upon the photographers tastes. The thing that bothers me most is when they take pictures for the annual issues and there is a theme for the show (Camaros, tri-five Chevies, etc) and there are few shots of the theme models! Not having ever been a photographer at a show, I am sure there are many who wonder why they didn't get chosen or feel slighted, but I would imagine to take quality pictures of say 30 models, it takes quite a bit of time to do so and if there are 500 models on the tables, choosing which ones ain't easy!

My concern here is that the car hasn't been registered since 2001, any idea if they started and ran the engine since then? As was also mentioned, pull the starter and test it, could be froze up or rusted to the flywheel. If your immediate need is to determine whether the engine runs, some time spent checking all of the wiring as it relates to the engine will be necessary before trying to start it.

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad I didn't get to Ollie's today, I got a 15% off coupon in the mail late today. Will be going in that direction tomorrow so I hope to find something, but it has to be something I NEED, I am done buying kits for the sake of buying kits. -

My Ollie's is advertising as having models, will have to check it out. The wife wants to stop in today as she needs some kitchen related stuff, might be able to get a model if I am well behaved in the store! -
Scale Equipment LTD offered a mower deck for that tractor, as well as a snow plow blade.

Future of the hobby
mikemodeler replied to GaryR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, between the rumors of Revell raising prices some $10 or more, Tamiya setting fixed prices (MAP), Hobby Lobby shelves being empty of Revell kits, people hoarding Revell kits because they might not be available much longer, the average modeler age is growing and not enough youngsters are building kits today, I have resigned myself to throwing all of my model kits and supplies and tools away because I fear my hobby is dead. No, just kidding. I have never built models for others nor do I care if models are still around next year, next decade or next century. Instead of speculating on what will happen, rehashing what has happened, or regurgitating the same old, same old stories about the good old days and what YOU did, we should just build a model or two and enjoy the hobby. The future is bright if you see it that way, it isn't if you don't, it's that simple folks. -
The Japanese companies have a historical past of trying to fix pricing on their goods, not limited to plastic model kits. 30 years ago I bought a Mitsubishi TV and five years later I received a check from Mitsubishi as they had been found guilty of collusion (no politics!) with other manufacturers of pricing by the FTC. The same has happened in the auto parts industry and I believe others as well. As others have stated, could be a ruse by Internet Hobbies to drive sales, wouldn't surprise me if it was. Meanwhile, let's speculate some more on Revell!

Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
mikemodeler replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Probably has a lot to do with the change in ownership and distribution. I suspect the new owners will get Hobby Lobby re-supplied as soon as they can seeing how they are the only large retailer selling Revell kits. Michaels and AC Moore stock them, just not in the variety nor does it seem they sell as well, IMO. -
