I had two thoughts on what happened: 1. Someone kinked the internet hose and therefore rendered the Forum unavailable. 2. The volcano finally spewed enough lava that Gregg had to move to the other side of the island and accidentally unplugged it during the move. Glad it is back up.

Great job on them both, looks like they have been well used! -
Boxes for 1/25 collection
mikemodeler replied to mikemich's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If your goal is to store them until you figure out how to display them, then Robert's suggestion of using the Sterlite storage boxes is spot on. I picked some up yesterday at my Big Lots for 94 cents a piece, with the lid! I use them to store my models that I am working on so parts and pieces don't get lost or dusty. As far as a display case goes, depending on the room you have available there are many options. There are used commercial displays available at auctions, going out of business sales and places that specialize in business furniture. There is also a company called Carney Plastics that makes model display cases in different scales that can be wall mounted. While not cheap, they are nice and IIRC can be custom configured to fit various models and die cast. Best of luck in your search, show us the collection when you have it ready. -
I was showing my latest order to another forum member here and he could not believe that they were not kit pieces. There is no flash on the resin and the details are so clear you would think it was from a kit.

Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
mikemodeler replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With that kind of price jump, that is a better return than my 401k is giving me. I better get all my kits listed on eBay today and hope there are enough gullible buyers out there to help me with my retirement fund. -

Doesn't matter where the water comes in, trying to compress a liquid in an engine is not going end well. -
My Last Modelhaus order
mikemodeler replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I just got my order, that Shasta camper looks like a kit piece and the crew cab Dodge pickup is going to look killer, just have to fab up a 4x4 chassis for it. -

I split a side laughing at this one! Yes, it's as if the rest of us are not on the same planet and somehow typing like that is a sign of superiority! BTW- this is a US website, there is no "U" in the word "COLOR" ! -

The automakers need to use turbos and multispeed transmissions to meet regulations enacted by the Federal Government in an effort to improve fuel economy. The fact that recently announced decisions by Ford and GM to reduce the number of small, fuel efficient passenger cars should not be a surprise that these same manufacturers are equipping their top selling vehicles (pickups) with these engines. It is no secret that some manufacturers design their products to barely outlast the warranty, it keeps the costs down and creates demand for replacement vehicles by owners who don't want to spend money on repairs. -
My Last Modelhaus order
mikemodeler replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I got my email today from them that my order has shipped, sad and happy at the same time, looking forward to getting my truck and camper and figuring out just how I am going to build it! -
A quick update. The email I got showing my order had shipped said it would get here this past Tuesday, it actually showed up on Monday and the parts were even more impressive than what the website shows. Danny is a great guy, never had a problem (except for spending too much! LOL) and his service is outstanding.

Everyone has already said what I was thinking about this, great job! Love it. -
Went through my workbench and organized my parts and kits the other day, I found the resin mower deck and snow plow for the tractor that I bought from SE Ltd years ago. Gotta dig out the tractor and get them done!

You need to offer incentives Tom and they will move out! Nice to see these pictures again, your work is outstanding, whether it is a diorama or scratch built model!

I spent close to 4 hours sorting and organizing around my model bench work area today. Got a lot of stuff organized and can now see what I have much easier and faster. I will tackle the workbench next weekend, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed after going through all of my clutter that was around the bench. I did use a bunch of plastic totes from Big Lots, they have ones the size of a shoe box that is perfect for storing kits that have been started and they stack nicely. They cost a whole $.97 a piece and can be re-used over and over, so once one kit is done, I can re-purpose the tote for the next kit!

Was looking at the Scenes Unlimited website the other night to find a wheel for someone on the forum and noticed that Danny had a couple of new items. Placed an order the evening of May 16 and by the afternoon of May 19 the order was in the mail to me. It will take less than a week from placing the order to receiving it, pretty incredible service! Danny does a great job and it's service like this that drives me back to his website.

Nice, wanted to go but had so much stuff to do at home that HAD to be done. Love this show, will be there next year, thanks for sharing.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh so true, but that won't let a few "all knowing" individuals from speculating and yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater, even after being called out on it. The reality of all of this is that most of us have enough kits to build without buying more and for those that don't have a large stash, there are a TON of models still in circulation that they could buy. -
Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, that depends. I would tend to agree with you but there could have been talks going on we weren't privy to that would keep that space open. Rumor has it that there is some Revell inventory left over from Hobbico and I would think it would be offered up to those who were Hobbico customers rather than send it off to a distress merchandise buyer (can you say Ollie's) at a fraction of the original selling price. Best we can do at this point is sit back and wait to see what develops. While the new company bought Revell for a steal, if they are in it to make money they will want to have the likes of HL as a customer, probably the only reliable brick and mortar customer they have.
