2019 Silverado
mikemodeler replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The automakers need to use turbos and multispeed transmissions to meet regulations enacted by the Federal Government in an effort to improve fuel economy. The fact that recently announced decisions by Ford and GM to reduce the number of small, fuel efficient passenger cars should not be a surprise that these same manufacturers are equipping their top selling vehicles (pickups) with these engines. It is no secret that some manufacturers design their products to barely outlast the warranty, it keeps the costs down and creates demand for replacement vehicles by owners who don't want to spend money on repairs. -
My Last Modelhaus order
mikemodeler replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I got my email today from them that my order has shipped, sad and happy at the same time, looking forward to getting my truck and camper and figuring out just how I am going to build it! -
A quick update. The email I got showing my order had shipped said it would get here this past Tuesday, it actually showed up on Monday and the parts were even more impressive than what the website shows. Danny is a great guy, never had a problem (except for spending too much! LOL) and his service is outstanding.

Everyone has already said what I was thinking about this, great job! Love it. -
Went through my workbench and organized my parts and kits the other day, I found the resin mower deck and snow plow for the tractor that I bought from SE Ltd years ago. Gotta dig out the tractor and get them done!

You need to offer incentives Tom and they will move out! Nice to see these pictures again, your work is outstanding, whether it is a diorama or scratch built model!

I spent close to 4 hours sorting and organizing around my model bench work area today. Got a lot of stuff organized and can now see what I have much easier and faster. I will tackle the workbench next weekend, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed after going through all of my clutter that was around the bench. I did use a bunch of plastic totes from Big Lots, they have ones the size of a shoe box that is perfect for storing kits that have been started and they stack nicely. They cost a whole $.97 a piece and can be re-used over and over, so once one kit is done, I can re-purpose the tote for the next kit!

Was looking at the Scenes Unlimited website the other night to find a wheel for someone on the forum and noticed that Danny had a couple of new items. Placed an order the evening of May 16 and by the afternoon of May 19 the order was in the mail to me. It will take less than a week from placing the order to receiving it, pretty incredible service! Danny does a great job and it's service like this that drives me back to his website.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh so true, but that won't let a few "all knowing" individuals from speculating and yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater, even after being called out on it. The reality of all of this is that most of us have enough kits to build without buying more and for those that don't have a large stash, there are a TON of models still in circulation that they could buy. -

mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, that depends. I would tend to agree with you but there could have been talks going on we weren't privy to that would keep that space open. Rumor has it that there is some Revell inventory left over from Hobbico and I would think it would be offered up to those who were Hobbico customers rather than send it off to a distress merchandise buyer (can you say Ollie's) at a fraction of the original selling price. Best we can do at this point is sit back and wait to see what develops. While the new company bought Revell for a steal, if they are in it to make money they will want to have the likes of HL as a customer, probably the only reliable brick and mortar customer they have. -

All speculation and personal opinion that does nothing but stir up more speculation and doom and gloom predictions about "What might happen". I think we would all be better served waiting for something official from the new company or information from people with actual knowledge rather than ramble on and on with little to no information to base it on. -
Please accept my sympathies on the passing of your mother, I went through the same thing 2 years ago and while the pain has subsided, there are days that are tougher than others. Think of the happy, fun times and as you noted, she led a full life so make sure you remember her that way. Best way to honor her is live life and enjoy everyday, that is what my Mom reminded me to do before her passing.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In an email from Jack at Modelroundup, he mentioned that there would be a period of 90-120 days where they would not be able to get Revell kits while the new company sets up distribution. The big news in the last couple of months has been the change in ownership of Revell and details are still sketchy about what to expect next. We have reached out to many of our contacts in the industry, and the only thing we know for sure is that they have a new German Owner. Distributors have been told not to expect any shipments from Revell for the next 90 to 120 days. Our best guess is the company will re-emerge this Fall and inventory will begin to ship again. We will continue to update you as we hear more news. Knowing this situation with Revell was coming, we tried to stock up on whatever Revell kits we could find. We expect their former product plans and announcements to be executed, but at this point no one seems to know anything for sure. -
That's great Bill, but I am getting the sense that the OP doesn't have the skill set to bring dead engines back to life and my comments were meant to guide him towards an easier solution. Yes, the only way he will learn is to actually do it, but at what cost? You are assuming the 440 and 727 are perfectly good, yet they haven't been run in years and could be seized up for all you know.

Always enjoy whatever you crank out of the workshop Chuck! This one is a really nice ride, love the changes you made and as usual, the weathering looks great! -
Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely less variety this time around compared to the last couple of times they had models. It will be interesting to see if they get more models in to move and if so, which ones. I did not see anything that was of interest to me, although I was tempted to snag a couple of pre-decorated Vettes and Camaros for when the little nephews come through town. -
Revell Ford Bronco questions
mikemodeler replied to berr13's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A 3 and a half inch lift in 1/25 scale is not going to raise the model very much, should fit inside the display case. -

mikemodeler replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Carl, Please re-read what James wrote- Ford is being difficult about getting paid some licensing fees. That's it. Blitz isn't going to assume the current licensing agreement, which could mean they want to negotiate new ones, likely with better terms. It's also possible they don't want to offer any more Ford product, but if you look at their catalog of kits (new and old), I doubt they would walk away from selling Ford kits. Until something is announced from the company itself, speculating on what COULD happen or making blanket statements like yours only feeds the hysteria that this subject has become.
