Always thought this was a cool "car" in real life even though most people didn't. I look forward to building a model of it.

Cool! You made this kit look better than I thought it could ever be. Nice work.

My wife has back issues that limit her mobility and is in constant pain that sometimes goes to a hip or leg. 2 operations, physical therapy and numerous other attempts at making things better and right now the stimulator has been suggested. I relay Gregg's problems to her and we both realize how bad he must feel. Just keep waiting for him to have a miraculous "fix" to all this and he can enjoy life a little more.

Tom Daniel - Most Famous Kit Designer Ever?
TonyK replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I built the Tijuana Taxi when I was a kid and recently enjoyed building it again as an adult with more patience and experience. Have built a few others again too and really enjoy the kits just having some fun with a not so serious subject matter. Also enjoy thinking I have done this before and sometimes wondering how I tackled little troublesome parts fit that may come up when I was putting this together as a kid. -
Started with the AMT '62 Bel Air kit. Removed wipers and some chrome, added proper exhaust pipes, rear window straps, PPP wheels and tires, seat and roll cage. Painted with Tamiya pure white and pearl light blue. Used some old Fred Cady decals I've had and they went on like they were bought last week. Sure miss the selection we used to have when those decals were readily available.

Very nice! I enjoyed my build too but the sad thing is how much is hidden when everything is done.

A Thought about the Magazine, etc.
TonyK replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Always like having a magazine for many reasons. Bring it with me in the car so I can read while waiting for someone/something, at the airport, lying in bed, etc. Don't want to haul around a laptop for that. But, I do use the laptop for the forum and will support both the magazine and forum as long as I can and always hope they both will continue. -
Very nice! I see lots of detail on the wheels and tires. Looks like you had to do some fogging/blending on the paint job? Never tried to tackle that yet.
-
Nice! I look forward to more in the future. One of my favorite drivers too.....especially on the dirt.

Wow! Despite all the problems you had it turned out perfect in my opinion. Sorry you didn't enjoy the build but your Dad is gonna love it.

1950 Olds 88 that Herschel McGriff won the Pan American road race in May 1950. Used the original kit except I replaced the body with a resin one. Don't remember where I got it but the quality was excellent. The body in the kit was incorrect for the race. Tried to make the car look race worn with some damage as seen in pictures.

AMT kits to make Wendell Scott red '65 and blue '66 Ford NASCAR racers. I really admire his success as a race car driver and what he accomplished in his private life. Removed most of the chrome and wipers and the wing windows. Added PPP wheels and tires to the red car and used Powerslide decals on both. Roughed up the '65 car a little bit. Real hard to find decent pictures for reference so did the best I could trying to get the cars right. After I finished I found a picture that looked like a white hood on his red car so I blew that. Oh well....

No idea what that orange sphere is. Don't think I've seen it on any other car so that caused my thought of a rookie symbol to be wrong. Being on the top of the trunk lid is another oddity.

I remember enjoying this kit when it first came out. I really like your close up shots. Nice build!

Or John Rutherford as it says on the car. This is the AMT kit painted Testors black and Tamiya gold to make the Smokey Yunick car that Johnny Rutherford won a qualifying race with and then finished 9th in the 1963 Daytona 500. I removed all the chrome and wipers, used PPP wheels and tires and Ace decals.

Wow! I really really like your finished model. All your pictures show your talent. I'm surprised at the problems you had with a Fujimi kit. I rate them just below Tamiya but I suppose they can sometimes be a pain.
-
Wow. Quite a variety and a few interesting subjects. And very nice work you've done!

A nice kit from Revell built right out of the box. Everything went together well and the decals were good which was nice since there was a lot to do. The pre-painted Linda Vaughn figure was a nice touch. A side note; met her at the races in Portland once and she was the nicest friendliest person you could meet and seemed very genuine about it. Even told my wife she had really nice hair. She's got a lot of thick blond going on.
-
Hmmmm I don't see anything wrong with your finished model. Looks great!
-
To answer the question above.....The box said nothing about the model being a Tom Daniels design but did say it was from the tv show Dark Shadows. Never watched the show which again doesn't explain why I bought this kit.
-
I don't know about Fisher kits but guessing these are the type where you have to use all your skills to make a nice presentable model and you did that. Nice work and thanks for pointing out the details you added. I may not have noticed the extra effort you went through.
-
Something different but thought a few of you might be into this type of thing. I rarely build these types of models and not sure why I bought it in the first place but spent a lot of time here and there to force myself to finish it. Very tough kit to put together as there are many parts and not much in the way of locating points. An MPC kit if I remember right and I never get along with this brand even when I was a kid.
-
Nice to see one of these finished and you did a great job on it. Thank you for the details pointed out about the kit. I have this kit and opened the box but looking at the paint scheme has kept me from starting it. Don't think I can do it without botching all of it.
-
Same thought here. Looks great! Nice details and nice job on all those decals.

These sites have a nice assortment of dirt track parts - http://www.bigdonkeyresin.com http://www.polecatdecals.com www.shapeways.com Shapeways is a 3d printer website that has everything so you have to do a little hunting to find some parts for vehicles. Great source for figures if you're into that.
