  1. One of my favorite movies is The Longshot. Tim Conway and a great cast of losers betting on horse racing. Grew up watching McHales Navy and still enjoy Tim Conway's funny character in that.
  2. Thank you for the replies. Forgot about Fireball Modelworks site. They've got quite a selection.
  3. Sometimes I like to build something different and this was going to be a "fun and dumb" subject for me. It was fun for awhile but then it turned out to be a bit tedious with lots of vague attachment areas which happens with some of these old goofy kits. Still enjoyed it though.
  4. The 1953 Moebius Hornet right out of the box so nothing special but I really enjoy these kits. I painted it with some cheap Home Depot spray black and white because I didn't want a beautiful paint job and wanted to try this paint. Worked alright. Think I paid a dollar or two for a big can.
  5. I have the old version of Revell's BRE Datsun 510 with the 2 piece tires. Wanted to know where I might find some decent replacement tires for this kit. I've got plenty of extra tires in my parts box but nothing like these little ones. Thanks for any help.
  6. Thanks for the info and discussion.
  7. That sucks! Sure was a nice looking model you did. I enjoyed looking at the "before" pictures.
  8. I have wondered for many years about the MPC California Flash Duster model. Whatever happened to it and why hasn't it been reissued? Remembered the kit way back but never had it. I seem to recall the Grumpy Jenkins Pro Stock Vega was supposed to be reissued but then ........nothing. Seems these kits would be a popular reissue if they still exist.
  9. Very nice! Great looking car.
  10. Crazy. I like your imagination and finished model.
  11. Very nicely done! I like the detail I can see in the interior. Glad you enjoyed your build as I recall enjoying it many years ago also.
  12. Dan Gurney ran the 1963 Daytona 500 and finished 5th. Model is AMT with most of the chrome removed, Tamiya white paint, PPP wheels and tires, the usual stuff involved making a NASCAR racer. Decals were probably from Mike's. Had them for awhile and finally decided to make this car.
  13. Always thought this was a cool "car" in real life even though most people didn't. I look forward to building a model of it.
  14. Cool! You made this kit look better than I thought it could ever be. Nice work.
  15. My wife has back issues that limit her mobility and is in constant pain that sometimes goes to a hip or leg. 2 operations, physical therapy and numerous other attempts at making things better and right now the stimulator has been suggested. I relay Gregg's problems to her and we both realize how bad he must feel. Just keep waiting for him to have a miraculous "fix" to all this and he can enjoy life a little more.
  16. I built the Tijuana Taxi when I was a kid and recently enjoyed building it again as an adult with more patience and experience. Have built a few others again too and really enjoy the kits just having some fun with a not so serious subject matter. Also enjoy thinking I have done this before and sometimes wondering how I tackled little troublesome parts fit that may come up when I was putting this together as a kid.
  17. Started with the AMT '62 Bel Air kit. Removed wipers and some chrome, added proper exhaust pipes, rear window straps, PPP wheels and tires, seat and roll cage. Painted with Tamiya pure white and pearl light blue. Used some old Fred Cady decals I've had and they went on like they were bought last week. Sure miss the selection we used to have when those decals were readily available.

Very nice! I enjoyed my build too but the sad thing is how much is hidden when everything is done.
  19. Always like having a magazine for many reasons. Bring it with me in the car so I can read while waiting for someone/something, at the airport, lying in bed, etc. Don't want to haul around a laptop for that. But, I do use the laptop for the forum and will support both the magazine and forum as long as I can and always hope they both will continue.
  20. Very nice! I see lots of detail on the wheels and tires. Looks like you had to do some fogging/blending on the paint job? Never tried to tackle that yet.
  21. Nice! I look forward to more in the future. One of my favorite drivers too.....especially on the dirt.
  22. Wow! Despite all the problems you had it turned out perfect in my opinion. Sorry you didn't enjoy the build but your Dad is gonna love it.
  23. 1950 Olds 88 that Herschel McGriff won the Pan American road race in May 1950. Used the original kit except I replaced the body with a resin one. Don't remember where I got it but the quality was excellent. The body in the kit was incorrect for the race. Tried to make the car look race worn with some damage as seen in pictures.
  24. AMT kits to make Wendell Scott red '65 and blue '66 Ford NASCAR racers. I really admire his success as a race car driver and what he accomplished in his private life. Removed most of the chrome and wipers and the wing windows. Added PPP wheels and tires to the red car and used Powerslide decals on both. Roughed up the '65 car a little bit. Real hard to find decent pictures for reference so did the best I could trying to get the cars right. After I finished I found a picture that looked like a white hood on his red car so I blew that. Oh well....
  25. No idea what that orange sphere is. Don't think I've seen it on any other car so that caused my thought of a rookie symbol to be wrong. Being on the top of the trunk lid is another oddity.
