What Kits Were Molded in Green?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I gotta get one of those someday. I'm currently polishing up an AMT Cobra molded in that color. They'd make a nice pair sitting together. -
The AMT/Polar Lights "snap kit" is full detail with a good engine and engine bay.

BCT has been gone for quite a while. Disappeared from my local HL maybe 2-3 years ago. I think I got some online somewhere over a year ago. When the MM line was discontinued, I placed a large order of MM paints with someplace I'd never dealt with before. They had everything I needed except the BCT. Testor has a "Semi Gloss Black" in the little bottles now but it's glossier than BCT and I don't like it nearly as much.

What non-auto model did you get today?
Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
There was a nice article on P-43 in, I think, the February issue of Air Classics. -

The ad in today's paper says models are 40% off this week. -

How does one paint/highlight badge scripts?

When I rehabbed this glue bomb '68 Vette, I foiled the bare plastic, then laid down one coat of black primer, two coats of the metallic orange, and two or three coats of Wet Look Clear. Then I wet-sanded the clear with 3M #1000 Wetordry. Over the emblems, I stopped sanding when I hit the primer coat. Then I polished out the clear as normal, and the black primer went away at the same time. For the foiled gas cap emblem, before paint, I masked it with a spot of white glue applied with a toothpick. This was easily removed after painting. -
I'm also proud of these two "survivor" MPC '68 GTOs I restored in 2016. The one in the background I built in 1968, the closer one I bought as a rebuilder from Spotlight Hobbies in the late '80s. Both are still wearing their original paint.

I have a better pizza joint story. On our very first date, the future Lovely Mrs. Snake and I went to a local pizza place. As we ate, the two jokers at the counter made all kinds of loud comments in Spanish about TLMS and what they'd like to do to her. They didn't know she was from Nicaragua. On our way out, she stopped by the counter and asked them with a big smile, in Spanish, "So, where are you boys from?" If you've ever wondered if Latinos can blush, why, yes they can.

I didn't until you made me look for it. We were both there.

VERY sharp, but we expect no less from you! Well done as always, and model on! -

My new favorite/go-to clear is Rustoleum High Lustre Coating clear lacquer from Walmart. But I haven't used it over your paint. Do your own "spoon test" first.

And don't forget that in all the recent reissues of the '72, the rear bumper is significantly wider than the body, so either the bumper grew somewhere along the line or the body got shrunk in width.

Another way to get a good '67 roadster body would be to use the body from a cheap, common Revell '63 snapper roadster. Cut out the hood, then swap in the fender vents and gas cap. Use the '67 grille and rocker panels. Graft in or just cut in the backup light. Should be a very do-able project!

Very, VERY nice! You got the proportions and overall "feel" of the thing exactly right. I think this might be one of my favorite T bucket models I've ever seen. VERY well done and model on!

Probably the best looking '69 Firebird model I've ever seen. Drive on!

Tolja. If I tell you a rooster can pull a freight train, you better get your junk off the tracks.

You're so right about the front end of that body needing major surgery. I did one a few years ago and had MANY hours filing and sanding the front fender tops and the header panel into better shape. The Coupe body doesn't share this problem (nor do their two '63 snappers) and if I EVER get the urge to build another Revell '67 Vette roadster, I'll cut the top off the coupe and graft in the trunk panel from the roadster. (I've also managed to pick up a couple original AMT roadsters along the way.) Here's how mine came out for your inspiration--the work IS worthwhile.

I just roll the tubing under the blade of an Xacto knife. You'll be amazed at how fast and easy it cuts through.

Check out any kind of cheap flat white, flat black, and flat gray rattelcans you can find. That's how I discovered both the Walmart Color Place and the Touch N Tone paints.

I either use the foil-under-paint method, or dry-brush silver paint. Got a couple of these jobs to do even as we speak, in fact. -
That's why I said "late, lamented."

MCW does a Biscayne, but it's a 2-door, and its roof looks more like a '65-'66 roof.
