Tom, from what I've seen, I think you might have the board's largest collection of old original "survivor" customs--some restored, some not. I'd think you could fill out that show theme table all by yourself!

Near as I can tell, that's exactly what it is. I'm thinking of polishing up that lovely turquoise plastic. and putting it back together. IIRC all it's missing is a headlight lens.

Stopped by Rite-Aid today. They had a sale on the Wellys--buy one, get one 50% off! Unfortunately, they didn't have anything I wanted/needed, much less two things. They did have a '53 Buick convertible in blue that looked pretty nice, but that's just not in my area at all so I passed (even though my Mom always said she wanted "a baby-blue Buick convertible). I wonder if Rite-Aid is getting out of the Welly bidness? I sure hope not.

I'll get one this time around. I want to make the coupe into a truck-type cab, and then put a shortened bed on it. Don't think I've ever seen it done, but I'm pretty sure I can make it work.

Thanks, but I didn't build any of them. Just restored two of them, and hope to restore the third.

Not long ago, I bought this original build '65 Mustang custom off eBay and restored it pretty much to original. Earlier in the year, I bought this '65 Mustang, built by Paul Sable, which appeared in the February '66 issue of Car Model magazine, and restored it as well. I also scored this amazing '67 Malco Mustang, converted from stock by Phil Jensen and subject of an 8-page how-to in Car Model, on eBay about the same time. Haven't gotten around to restoring this one yet; it's going to take a bit a careful, skilled work and I just haven't had the time. Are these the kind of thing the NNL theme wants?

Didn't get it, but today my Walmart had a nice M2 '71 340 Cuda in metallic charcoal gray with white billboards/graphics.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Y'all shamed me into getting back into my Monogram '66 Chevelle. Last night I got almost half the body wet-sanded. That done, the polishing should be easy, and then on to building the chassis and engine. -
November display! Calendar Mustang: 2013 Shelby in white with red stripes. Diecast: 2007 Shelby in red with white stripes. I have a 2012 Boss 302 (red), but the ’07 Shelby is probably closer visually, with the stripes and all. Calendar Camaro: ’73 in purple (non-factory), on Cragars, “Z/28” (maybe, maybe not), and notice this is not a Rally Sport, it’s a standard front with the center section of the bumper cut away. Diecast: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a diecast 2G Camaro, and I sure don’t have one. Closest I could get was my Welly ’72 Trans Am in Lucerne Blue. My Musclecar and Corvette options this month weren’t good. The Musclecar is a yellow ’69 Firebird 400. I don’t have a ’69 Firebird, don’t even have a yellow ’69 Camaro. The Corvette is a blue ’59, closest I have is the gold ’62, which I’ve already displayed here this year. So it’s the ’07 Shelby and the ’72 TA. Maybe I can get closer next month.

Wow, I could have used that Corvette for this month's Calendar Car. It's almost a perfect match!

How about some spooky halloween music

Believe it or not, I got through the whole day without hearing "Werewolves of London" on the radio. Not a big problem--as a collector of Warren Zevon concert bootlegs, I probably have 50 different versions of it. But here's a VERY cool version you might not have heard before. If you're a guitar nut, you'll appreciate seeing the great Waddy Wachtel (a co-writer of the song, BTW). And with FIVE guitars blasting (counting Will Lee's bass), a couple of shots here put me in mind of an antiaircraft battery. -
Horsepower doesn't matter (except in the Stock classes), only cubic inches. I have a hard time imagining this car would be light enough to be A/G, or have a small enough engine to be D/G. I'd have thought it would slot somewhere into B or C/G. But that's just a guess. Oh wait, just saw the 321 CI decal. So maybe it WOULD drop into D/G.

Yah, but somebody will come out with aluminum heads for it. That'll knock off a couple tons.

I think I've seen some foods over in the dollhouse stuff at Hobby Lobby. And 1/24 is a standard dollhouse scale (though not as popular or prevalent as 1/12). Don't forget you could have a couple vintage car magazines and/or model car boxes in your grocery bags. Our supermarket when I was a kid sold model kits.

Yup. The Ford Blue didn't come in until 1966.
-
Very nice! 1/24?

"Swoopy Coup" Pro-Street Style '40 Ford DeLuxe Coupe

Very, VERY cool! It's almost like you finished off my late '60s/early '70s street goon I call "The Texas Sniper." -
Jay Leno is scheming to swap it into something even as we speak. A '30s Rolls Royce perhaps?

One of the "names" of our hobby. He will be missed. -

Had a great experience with…wait for it…the phone company (Verizon). Six or eight years ago we had trouble with our house landline when it rained. The phone would be static-y or get no dial tone at all until it had dried out, which could take several days or a week. I called and a guy came out and did stuff and didn’t fix it, so I called again and a second guy came out and correctly traced the problem to the wire out on the pole in the backyard. He replaced the whole wire—problem solved until recently. We had some heavy rain a month or so ago and the problem was back. Both guys who had worked on the phone back in the day gave me their cards, but I couldn’t remember which one of them had actually fixed it. It’s just about a complete waste of time to try to contact Verizon through their normal complaint channels (just try talking to an actual human being!) so I dug out my old wallet and found the two cards. Both the office numbers now were either disconnected or only had an answering machine. Tried both cell numbers, again just “leave a message.” After several attempts, I finally got an answer on one of them. Turned out to be the guy who had changed the wire, who remembered me. Unfortunately he was now assigned to another part of the state but he told me to call the other guy, who’s now the service manager here in town. Okay, I tried that number several times over a couple of weeks and only got “leave a message” again. Finally yesterday in desperation I did leave a detailed message describing the exact problem, with my work number as a contact. Didn’t hear anything back. When I got home, my wife said they’d come and fixed it (within 2 hours of my call) and had gone right to the box on the pole and hadn’t screwed around checking the lines inside the house at all. Works perfectly now! You can’t ask for better service than that. Last evening I got a robo-call from Verizon (first time the phone had rung in weeks) asking me to rate their service and my satisfaction. I “pressed one” on every question and then recorded a glowing verbal review and thanks. I just called the same cell number of the guy I called yesterday. Still no answer, so I left a lavish message of thanks and praise. We live in an age when we’re amazed when things actually work as they’re supposed to—or even better—but boy does it feel good when it happens!
