Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
Snake45 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Me? Yeah, I need to clean that thing out sometime soon. -
VERY MOST WAY EXTREMELY COOL!!! Over on "the other board" a guy started a '33 Willy as a fenderless Altered and it was one of the coolest ideas I've ever seen. I don't know why no one ever did that in real life. (Dunno if he ever finished that model or not.) I see on the van you returned the outside corners of the front fenders to their stock contours. This is something just about no one catches when they go to make something else out of the AMT Malco Gasser based kit. Well done and drive on!

Yup. I talked to Don once about making copies of a rare part I owned. He was very interested in adding it to his line, but didn't want to borrow it from me, he needed to own it as he said he had to remake the molds every so often and would only work with originals, not copies, as masters, due to shrinkage every time the part is copied. I forget what the part was, but whatever it was, I ended up not wanting to part with it permanently. -

I would have bet real money that by now, this thread would have been up to 10 pages with war stories, tales of victory and triumph and redemption, and "the lamentations of our women." -
Bookmarked! My go-to ref to this point has always been autocolorlibrary.com, but (as we see) they don't always have the late year (spring) paint chip pages.

I think the last issue was a reprise of earlier box art, or at least intended to evoke it in retro fashion.

If your clearcoat is lacquer, you don't want to use anything with alcohol in it.

1/25 AMT '65 Chevy El Camino "Gear Hustler"
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Will never happen. The molds were altered back in the day to make the '65. It might be available in resin, though. I know there are a couple sources for resin '64 Chevelles (HT), but none, sadly, for the '65. Maybe I should buy a '64 Hardtop and swap you the front end to graft onto a '65 Elky body, and I'll use the rest of the body and an Elky front end to make a nice '65 HT. -
It's been reissued many times. I bought one at Hobby Lobby within the last year or maybe two. The latest issue has both clear and blue windows, and a really nice decal sheet.

It's reminding me a little of the 50 cent 1/32-ish rubber band powered Hawk Bonneville cars of the early '60s. At least one of them used the clear canopy from their 1/48 F2H Banshee kit.

Thanks! I'll have to do some more research. Is this a great site, or what? ETA: Well that didn't take much Google-Fu. It's legit, and was a "spring color." Must not have been on the paint chart I looked at. Thanks again!

I heard yesterday that Cher (what, 71?) is releasing an album of ABBA covers next month. Heard a couple cuts and it sounds GREAT! I'm a customer when it comes out. And no, despite the combination of Cher and ABBA, I'm not gay. (Didn't even realize that Cher and/or ABBA are now considered "gay things" until I read all the comments on the cuts on YouTube. Almost EVERY SINGLE ONE mentioned it one way or the other.)

Was doing my pre-Snake-Fu research and discovered that Plymouth didn't offer a real yellow in 1971. They had Curious Yellow, which I'd call chartreuse or even more of a green than yellow, and Bahama Yellow, which I'd call butterscotch or even more tan than yellow. That explains why I couldn't remember ever seeing a yellow '71 HemiCuda, or even non-hemi '71Cuda for that matter. Oh well. I'm going to have a yellow '71 HemiCuda on my shelf, sooner or later.

If your Testors Clear is enamel, rubbing alcohol will work. But if it's lacquer, it'll eat that right off. Testors makes about 19 different kinds of clear now, and I don't know which one you used. First thing I'd try is putting more of the tape on the residue. Sometimes that will pull it right off. Then I'd try Windex or ammonia. (That will also take off Future and water-based acrylics.) Then I'd give Steven's WD-40 a shot. I've never used it for any modeling purpose, but I've heard good things about it for this job.

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
Snake45 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That's what happened to me, except qty 2. I finally went back into my cart and threw out something I'd ordered 2 of, and tried again, and then it went through, except by that time vultures and jackals had picked my cart almost clean. I see now that my strategy SHOULD have been to get in quick, grab the top 2 or 3 most needed items on my list, then dash to the checkout instead of taking the time (maybe 5-7 minutes) to load up on "nice to have" stuff. I ended up with mainly only "nice to have" stuff. -

I actually had a '67 Barracuda HT kit in my cart, but by the time I was able to get through the checkout glitches, it was gone. Along with a couple '68 Charger grilles I really wanted. In fact, I ordered two or three of some items, but on my final order, there's not more than one of anything. Oh well. Thanks again, Don and Carol, for one last shot. -

Wow, THAT was like Walmart on Black Friday morning. Had a large shopping list. Was scoring quite a bit of the goodies on it, went to check out, there was some kind of glitch between steps 2 and 3. I had to keep going back in and re-entering my information due to some quantity being "out of range." FINALLY got through to Step 3 and checked out. By that time someone else had grabbed most of the good stuff out of my cart. I only ended up with half to a third of what I needed, and didn't get a few things I needed most. Oh well. A week ago, I had no dream of getting ANY of it, so ya gotta look on the bright side. -

I'm thinking of adding that to my sig lines! -
I use cheap masking tape from Walmart, I think it's Duck brand. For sharp edges, I lay it on sheet styrene and cut my own strips with XActo and straightedge to whatever width is appropriate to the task at hand. For general masking I use it right off the roll.

Sweet! An AMT '66 Corvair was one of the very first model cars I ever bought. I still have the instruction sheet and a few random pieces of it, but the rest is long gone. Well done and model on!

VERY nice! When I think of Fuel Altereds, this is one of the top four or five cars that comes to mind.
