Is the Revell a diecast or the plastic 1/24 Monogram kit?

I'd love it if they'd carry some of the newer Airfix 1/48 stuff, like the P-51D and the Sea Fury. (Very little chance of the latter, I suspect.)

If I had those and wanted to use them, I'd be asking how to narrow them to something a bit more realistic looking.

I have an AMT Mark Donahue Javelin but I don't know what year it is--somewhere between '71 and '74. Definitely not a '70. I'm probably going to use it with a Jimmy Flintstone '70 Javelin Trans Am body to build a '70 TA racer.

I've had the same experience with that. Krylon Crystal Clear, right? It also seems to take a LOT of coats to build up enough of a finish to polish out. By a lot, I mean 8-10-12 or so.

You built that kit about as well as it can be built. Well done and model on!

I think it was less a matter of "luck" than having enough disposable income at that time to put healthy bids in on eBay. I think I bought these somewhere in the 2006-2008 timeframe, and I seem to recall paying around $30-$35 for them at that time. I think they'd all go for a bit more than that now.

I think the headlights are replaced with a flat plate. Another idea would be to sili-clone the headlight area from a good grille, make resin or epoxy copies, and then fit those into the area. I THINK I have grilles for all my glue bomb Skylarks, although the chrome is probably whack on most of them. I also ordered at least a couple repros from Modelhaus, so I got all that goin' for me.

The rear end could be used for a mild custom, but the headlights are completely gone on the front end.

That'll look great with the Burnished Brown exterior. Don't forget that the headliner will be black. On a '69 Camaro with "white interior, " only the seats, door panels and rear side panels are white. Everything else is black.

How about an AMT '66 Skylark annual? I built it...in 1969. I still have it. And the original box, too. Got a couple restorable glue bombs, too. I'm gonna build another one sometime soon.

That manifold's pretty high-rise. There's a possibility once you get a carb and air cleaner on it, you'll have trouble getting that "flat" hood to close. I had a similar problem on a Camaro build once. Not sayin' you definitely will, just something to be on the lookout for. Also, if you're going for a low-power plain-jane engine (307 in '69 Camaro, I believe), the intake manifold would have been red/orange to match the rest of the engine. Unless of course that's supposed to be an aftermarket day two manifold, in which case, never mind.

Agree. The trim on the MPC flipnose is whack, too, which is a shame because otherwise it's pretty nice. The second AMT, the Revell snapper, and the Revell 2D sedans are almost certainly the best of the lot.

I don't remember/never saw those, but I do remember a Rod & Custom that had a 911 with a SBC hanging off the back. The whole thing worked amazingly well (allegedly) as regards handling, reliability, durability, gas mileage, etc. (Power, it goes without saying.)

I first thought you were talking about their TBF Avenger, which scales out to 1/50 (I measured it myself), apparently to fit the box. The older (and kinda cool) Lindberg kit is really 1/48. The size difference is apparent. I've never measured it but I suspect their first SB2C Helldiver is undersize, too. The Ukranian T-28 didn't sell as well as the old Monogram because of its high cost. I'd like to have one or two, but have never been able to pull the trigger on one. Of course Revell is now asking $16 for what were originally $1 and $2 model airplanes.

Great pics, Tim, thanks! I tried your suggestion of using Roll but it was taking to long to wade through the classics and antiques I didn't care about. The funny cars start on Page 5. By "first gen" I was expecting to see 1964-66 cars, the AWBs. These are floppers from about 1967 to the early, maybe mid-'70s. Still WAY cool, though! The Monkeemobilee (or should I say "a" Monkeemobile) is on Page 12. Thanks again, Tim! Great work!

Speaking of the Street Outlaws, every time I watch them, I wonder why they don't invest in a Christmas Tree system instead of sticking with their throwback flashlight or arm-drop starts. That would do away with all the controversy about who "jumped" and the occasional ensuing fights. Or do you suppose they want the conflict?

Pretty nice! There's nothing wrong with the body of Revell's '67 coupe kit that I know of; the problem is in the front end of the body of their '67 roadster. The coupe looks fine, as your model shows. Model on!
