I remember one of the catalogs had a Cessna on the cover. You could get an AIRPLANE with green stamps! My Dad was a test/demo/sales pilot for an aircraft manufacturer, and flew all over the country a lot. One of the perks of the job was, when he gassed up the company airplane with the company credit card, he got to keep the green stamps. He'd bring home long strings of them in 50- and 100-stamp denominations. You only had to paste one of those on a page in the little green stamps book. Every so often Mom would bring out the cigar box full of stamps and we'd lick 'em and paste 'em in. I think she pretty much furnished our house on "free" green stamps. Good times.

Very, very nice, a super-clean build. And I noticed that you painted the lower body black, the way most of the real ones I've seen were. For some reason most of the built models I've seen of this kit paint the whole body in color. That's a nice touch on yours, and I like it! Model on!

I have a diecast '65 Chevelle that came outfitted as a blown Pro Street. I didn't care for the cartoonish injectors and scoop, so replaced them with carbs and scoop from the parts box (I think they're from a Monogram '70 Chevelle) and worked some other typical Snake-Fu on the thing and it doesn't look too bad...certainly not boring.

The best $50 I have ever spent

Very cool! I've paid more than that for model cars that weren't in much if any better condition. Model on, full-scale! -
As a big fan of Glue Bomb rescues and rebuilds, I am really digging this! Drive on!

You need the Malibu or Malibu SS emblem for the rear fender, but if you have a PE set, that should be on it. I can't afford PE. I do think that emblem is included on the decal sheet of at least some reissues, so that's something.

That does look nice! If I ever run across one of those, I'll buy it.

I believe that's the best build of that kit I've ever seen. Or, at least, my personal favorite. VERY well done and model on!

Very nice! Your painting skills are outstanding! Model on!

Beautiful paint on that! What is it?

Absolutely correct. The upper line of the drip rail is perfectly straight, or too straight--the whole surface of the top might also be too straight/flat--and it just doesn't look right. I think it was Ron Hamilton who first pointed this out to me, and he was right. I've never done the Monogram '64 GTO so I haven't noticed it there, but I have noticed that Polar Lights got the roof wrong on their '64, too, as did Welly on their diecast '65 GTO. Interestingly, AMT got this roof right 50 years ago with the '64 Cutlass, '64-'65 GTO, and '64-'65 Chevelles. Does anyone in the aftermarket repop the AMT '65 body? I've never found one, though I've seen a couple different '64s, and I even bought a resin repro of the '65 Chevelle AWB funny car body on eBay. I'm gonna turn that one back into stock and build a standard '65 SS. Un-altering the wheel openings will be a lot easier than fixing the Revell body to look right....

Is the 1957 Chevy the most kitted ?

Their 1/25 snapper is quite nice, too. -
If You Could Only Have One?

Sorry, I refuse to accept the premise. I'm not playing. -
The MPC '70 GTO and '71 (or is it '72) Roadrunner I bought back in the late '80s, as well as every JoHan I bought at the hobby shop when they were common, would seem to qualify. Unless you intended to discuss things much more recent.

I believe Z16 production was 200, or within a couple either way of that. They were all either red, yellow, or black, and some had vinyl tops. There's quite a bit of tricky bodywork to do to bring the Revell kit back to a standard SS. And then there's the whole matter of the wonky top....
-
Maybe. Probably. But also definitely a LOT more expensive.
-
I suggest google-imaging '65 Chevelles and looking at the dozens (or hundreds) of pictures until you find one that floats your boat for some inspiration.

Looked okay 30-40 years ago, but she's crazy. None for me, thanks.

Now that you mention it, my '69 SS Camaro only had that one big muffler, too.

What's with all the Coke models? I hope Coke is paying the modelmakers for advertising, and not the other way around for licensing. Or is Coke collecting so big that Coke kits will be guaranteed hot sellers? I personally wouldn't pay an extra dime for a kit (or diecast) that had Coke on it. In fact, if it came printed/tampoed on, the first thing I'd do would be to remove it.

That came out pretty cool! Model on!

R&M of MD has that hood mislabeled--that's not an SS hood, it's a common plain-jane "flat" hood. Pretty cool, though. Burnished Brown is a cool color for '69 Camaros. I gather that you'll be using photo-etch. I assume the parts you have include the chrome trim for the rear fender fake vents. They go with the kit's wheel opening moldings for Style Trim Group (and all Rally Sports, which include STG). Drive on!

Is the 1957 Chevy the most kitted ?
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was talking about different major tools, not modified reissues. But where does the Revell Black Widow 150/Bel Air 2DS fit in there--it's two different bodies, so does it count as two different models or just one? '32 Ford might give '57 a run for its money in number of distinctly different kits. But not '69 Camaro. AFAIK, there are only four basic tools or "families"--AMT, MPC, Monogram, and Revell. With the possible exception of the MPC Dick Harrell funny car, all 1/24-25 plastic '69 Camaro models have come from one of those four basic tools. (AMT's Funny Hugger was modified from the original annual tool.) -
Except for the goofy scoop, that's actually kinda cool looking.

In 1/25-1/24, I count: 2 different AMT kits 4 different Revell kits (counting snapper, Nomad, and 150/Bel Air sedan--or should we count that as 5?) 1 MPC kit 2 Monogram kits (counting Nomad) 1 Testor Chezoom, a more-or-less '57 Chevy And then there's a Monogram funny car, a Revell Pro Mod, and is the Revell funny car different from the Monogram or a reissue? And I assume we're not counting '57 Corvettes or Chevy trucks here....
