1964-66 Plymouth Barracuda
Snake45 replied to Super28's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've seen both the '65 and '66 Cudas offered in resin. Don't remember exactly who has them, but it shouldn't take much googling to find them. -
You could be right. I haven't used mine that much, but I've been very happy with the results so far. Latest thing I did with it was "rechrome" a set of Cragars on a glue bomb. If I didn't tell you they were redone, you probably wouldn't notice.

Clean build, and you don't see these every day. Model on!

Great paint, great engine, looks like you're off to a great start! Drive on!

Where do you find YOUR inspiration ?
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Car magazines, mainly. Sometimes I'm inspired by what others here are building, or are working on. -
That's called "It followed me home" or "It just spoke to me." Had it happen many, many times.

How about the MPC '57 Corvette? It started life as stocker with MANY building versions, including slicks and blown SBC for gassiness. Later on they did a full-on gasser version with flip front end that shared many parts with the original but couldn't be built stock (and, truth to tell, can hardly be built at all). Would that count? Or maybe AMT '63 Corvette. I don't think the original annuals had many if any gassy parts, but over the years it got a blown engine, mags, big slicks, moon tanks, and so forth. That would probably qualify.
-
I did, without much clarification. I don't believe any new "gasser" parts were added to the AMT '49 or '57 Fords (or the '56), just new box art emphasized the gassy version. But here's one example that should fit: I believe Revell's '57 Chevy initially came without the solid axle front end. I think that was first seen in their '57 Nomad, and then that part showed up in the hardtops, too. Am I right about any or all of that? AMT's '55 Nomad doesn't fit, because it always had the straight-up gasser parts from the first issue. But one could make a strong case for their '55 Bel Air, which was initially issued without the Nomad's gasser parts, and later issued with them as a "street machine" version.

What Are You Building Today?
Snake45 replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I started a model of such a thing back in the '70s. I really should dig that thing out and drag it across the finish line. (Mine had a SBC, though, not a BBC.) -
Probably was updated to the '70, and then it might have become a funny car.

I got to ride along with him once on an airshow demo. The airplane was empty and the show was fairly close to home, so didn't have much fuel on board, so it was light. Dad strapped a couple hundred pounds of lead shot in the rear of the fuselage, far back as he could get it, "to make it do what I want it to do." Another time he had to fly up to Cape Cod to pick up some company bigwig. He had to stop at JFK for some reason along the way, and I thought, "Oh great, we'll probably circle around here for an hour or something waiting to land," but no, we went right in through some kind of "STOL back door" and landed in what looked like basically a parking lot. Amazing!

Oh great. I bought several copies of the roadster while it was still available, but was really looking forward to the coupe with its nice SBC engine and different wheels. Now if I want that engine and wheels I have to buy MORE roadsters? Fabulous. Of course, that's assuming that either of these kits is EVER available again. Makes me want to give up on rods and go back to '60s musclecars.

Wow, that came out great. Really looks the part! Well done and model on!

The NHRA is not a fan of Street Outlaws.
Snake45 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I know. I speak fluent sarcasm. I was just playin' along. BTW, couple weeks ago I saw an episode--not sure if it was a new show or an old rerun--where Monza's '70 Camaro not only went in a straight line, it did several barrel rolls, too! Luckily no one got hurt except Monza's wallet. -
Looking good! Drive on!
-
My Dad had many, many hours in a Pilatus Turbo Porter. (I got to ride along a couple times.) He'd have been impressed.
-
Before I can play, I gotta know the rules. Exactly what makes a kit or a particular issue a "gasser" or "NOT a gasser"? Tube or beam front axle? Fuel injectors or a blower? Box art? Technically, you take the front bumper off something--say a '55-'57 Chevy--and it got kicked up into the Gas class, because everything "lesser" had to run the factory bumpers.

Don't think so. The subtitle/"definition" for this section is: If it goes in a straight line, post it here! If only NHRA cars are allowed, no more lakes racers, Bonneville, LSR cars, etc here either, then. And I guess no early Funny Cars/match racers, since they weren't built to NHRA rules. -
Yup. When I feel like gambling with $10 these days, I buy five Powerball tickets.

What Are You Building Today?

Just finishing up a Glue Bomb Rescue '69 Chevelle, done late '70s street bomber style. Also working my Snake-Fu on an orange '75 Corvette coupe promo, but that one probably won't be finished for at least a couple weeks. Straightening and polishing out that body is turning out to be a bigger job than I'd planned. -
I think I saw one of those at Walmart this morning. But it looked bigger than 1/24-1/25, so I left it there.
