  1. Very nice! Those pics almost look like some of the Buick literature shots of the era.
  2. I too am working on converting the old Monogram 1/24, by grafting in the grille and taillights of the backbirth first-gen AAR.
  3. I tend to agree with you. And close after is body detailing. If I see molding lines or flash, I need look no further. Then, has SOMETHING been done with the window frames--foil, chrome, silver paint of some kind, matte black, SOMETHING? It's not the monochrome/dipped '90s anymore. It wasn't a good look then, and now it just looks lazy. And then run some black paint or wash to show the open areas of the grille. Few things look worse than unworked chrome "open" grille areas. And, BTW, paint doesn't have to be super-shiny--or even shiny at all--to look great. Some of the best finishes I've seen on this board have been overall primer or a weathered/patina finish. It doesn't have to be shiny, but it does have to look REAL.
  4. Beautiful! Thanks for the details. Somewhere I've got the old issue of SS&DI with JJ as the full-color centerfold--with this car disassembled down to the last nut and bolt and laid out in a studio. No "what color was _____" questions with THAT photo on the workbench!
  5. Revell's second AAR can be made into something that actually looks like a Cuda, if you want to put a buttload of work into it. You have to move the rear of the roof back, trim the tops of the rear fenders, and take some of the tuck-under out of the area behind the rear wheels. Here's one I got about halfway done with a few years ago. I need to dig it out and finish it sometime.
  6. What's wrong with uploading your photos directly here? It's been working great for me so far, and it's even easier and faster than PBucket.
  7. Uh, it doesn't look anything like a '70 Cuda. If it does to you, then build it and be happy. There should be enough unbuilt ones floating around, cheap.
  8. '69 was one of the greatest funny years ever. Maybe THE greatest. These are great. I especially like the Jungle Jim Nova. Can you tell us more about it? I've wanted to do that car for oh about four decades now.
  9. Very, very nice! You KNOW I love this kinda work, RJ. They made that '70 promo in a beautiful metallic blue, too. I have one that I'm trying to fix a crack in. Meanwhile, if you'd started with yours in naked red plastic, or could strip it cleanly, and take off all the mold lines and so forth and then polish it, it might look something like this:
  10. It was a wake-up call, but far too many hit the Snooze Button. And have just kept hitting it, and hitting it, and hitting it......
  11. It's a VERY cool piece of art, but I'm not seeing any connection with--or suggestion of--a P-51.
  12. Very, VERY nice indeed! I especially like that roof. Would love to try that myself sometime. Well done and model on!
  13. Heard from my Sis in law. They toured Graceland yesterday or today, so they're at least THAT far north. Looks like they might have dodged the worst of it. Dunno what they'll find when they get home, though.
  14. Wow, very, VERY nice, and you gotta love a Survivor! Did you have to do any resto or fixes on it, or has it remained that clean all these years?
  15. Looks like you got a nice polish on that body. I too love polishing plastic, if it looks "solid" enough to take it. You don't sand your tire treads? (I have to do that.) That Barracuda would look great on your shelf next to your Welly '70 Challenger T/A.
  16. I was wondering what my problem was with those.
  17. Good day at the local toy show. JADA 1/24 '65 Falcon, like new--$5. It's got those big goofy JADA wheels/tires, but the body looks otherwise good. I think I can put some decent rolling stock on it and have a nice Falcon. Will Pro-Street it if nothing else. Can probably swap off the JADA wheels here, too. Revell '69 Mustang CJ, new, shrinkwrapped--$5. It even comes with a little Hot Wheels or Johnny Lightning car, too. Three Corvette promos, '98, '99, and I forget what the other was, I think an early '90s, but all three--$11. All are a little dirty but undamaged and complete and should respond to some Snake-Fu. Guy had an entire table of Corvette diecasts and promos at unbelievable prices. He had a LOT of nice 1/18 diecasts priced at $5-$15, but I'm not into that scale. All of them were a little dirty/shelfworn but would have cleaned up beautifully. If they'd been 1/24, I'd have come home broke.
  18. At Walmart this morning, I saw a Krylon Satin Burgundy that looks amazingly close to your photo above.
  19. Oh, VERY cool, even if that's not a factory '66 color. I've got several '65 and '66 AMT roadsters to restore. One will be a road racer like yours, two will be customs (mild and wild), and at least two will be factory stockers. And one will be a "switcher"--factory hood and stock engine and chassis, and then a second hood and engine/chassis will convert it to a 6-71 blown street freak/street racer.
  20. I like Sammy Hagar's version better.
  21. Sis in law says they're now in TN (or headed for there, I forget which). IMHO that's not far enough. Told The Lovely Mrs. Snake to tell her to KEEP DRIVING NORTH. The forecast maps I'm looking at showing the stupid storm pretty much PARKING over TN or thereabouts for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday! Not that anyone really knows, of course.
  22. I just got back from the Wings & Wheels show at the local airport. There were a couple of NICE '72-'74 Cudas there. I took quite a few pics of the headlight buckets so I can try to make the ones on the AMT promo/snapper look more realistic. Both cars I photographed seemed to have Dark Argent grilles--a dark(ish) metallic gray color, not really what I'd call "silver."
  23. Good luck, Rodney!
  24. That paint looks like a pretty good match for '69 Chevy Garnet Red.
  25. I'm bumping this because IMHO this lovely build didn't get nearly enough love (comments). I think a lot of people didn't see any pics after the very first one posted. Gramps, why don't you add "New Pics Added" to the thread title? I'll bet you'll get a lot more views and more great comments.
