2022 Cannonball Group Build theme suggestion thread
Snake45 replied to Fat Brian's topic in Community Builds
Okay, looks like I'll be in with a '55 Chev. Only other possibility of any appeal to me would be to build the '53 Studebaker and call it a '54. I don't think there were many if any changes and they'd just be trim, right? Not gonna do a bunch of research and work to "convert" it to true '54 specs, because for what I'd have in mind, there'd be little if any trim on it anyway. -

Oh yes. Back in those days, the new models usually appeared in September. That was an exciting time of year--new school year, new TV season, new cars, new MODEL cars! -
What he said. Body looks better than the AMT and you did it up proud! Well done and model on!

If the '55 Chevy--which actually appeared in late 1954--qualifies for my 1954 year of birth, I'm in. Otherwise, I'll be out. -
Well, except for that real one is a sedan and the kit is a hardtop with a different roof, that would make a cool model project.

Wow. Wanna swap for 1954? -
So just to clarify, the deadline is Wednesday, Dec 1, correct? Not BEFORE Dec 1, meaning Nov 30, tomorrow? (Yes, I'm really running down to the wire.)

AMT Cinderbug Hot Rod

VERY clean build, very impressive work, especially the finish. Well done and model on! -
Ace, this pic gave me a start for a second. I thought it was the same car I built a commissioned model of for the owner about a decade ago. Had to look at details to see it wasn't the same--I'd completely forgotten "mine" had a white top.

Very sharp Vette, Jantrix! I like it a lot. Well done and model on!

I can't even get into my BotoPhucket account now--they're holding it for some outrageous amount of ransom. I still have most of my pics on my hard drive, though. I've been getting along without a pichosting site for a couple years now. Many forums, such as this one, now allow you to upload pics directly. There are workarounds for the ones that don't.

Comment deleted--posted in wrong thread. Sorry.

AMT 57 Corvette

I believe the kit you have is descended from the old MPC kit that first appeared around 1966. Yes, it originally had a stock hood, and all other stock parts. It was quite a nice kit back in its day. -
I just laid the first coat of paint on Stupidbird. I thought it was gonna be the only coat, but I saw a conspicuous dust booger that looks like will have to be sanded out and touched up tomorrow. This was the first time I've run my airbrush in over a year. Took me about a half hour to find the paint I wanted and get everything up to speed for the shoot. This happens to me frequently--the longer it's been since I've airbrushed, the more I dread it and put it off. When I was heavily into the model airplanes, it was no big deal to have five or six airbrushing sessions a day. Since moving back to cars, I've been relying on rattlecans more and more. But I needed a particular bottle color on Stupidbird that I couldn't find in rattlecan.

Very clean build, very nicely done! This car always for some reason reminded me of a plastic pencil box I had in elementary school. When I finally get around to building one of these, I hope it turn out as cleanly as yours. Well done and model on!

No Prep Kings Season Four
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting.... Meanwhile, about Ryan Martin: He first appeared on the show as a (unnamed) member of the road crew, one of the guys who stood at the far ends of the track to warn of the approach of police. Some episodes later, he turned up as a member of Freakin' Rican's crew, again unnamed. When he finally showed up with his own car, it was for a list shakeup and he ended that up in, IIRC, the #3 slot on the OKC list. For his first season or so, some of the OKC guys didn't like him because they didn't feel like he'd paid his dues to get so high up the list. Since then, of course, they've fully accepted him on the team--he's their flagbearer now, in fact. Through it all, it seems like he's been pretty much the same soft-spoken guy who hasn't let his success go to his head. -
Get back Loretta!

Very sharp! You don't see these built much anymore. Thanks for sharing it! Well done and model on!

No Prep Kings Season Four

I'd like to see them come up with a way that the same two guys don't have to race each other more than twice (maybe three times) before somebody gets a chance to move up. Some of the list jams/stagnation got almost silly last year. -
Interesting and very cool! I don't think I've seen the JL Duster before. Thanks for sharing it!

I wonder if they'll pick up where they left off, or start over with a "list shakeup"? -

And he manages to do so without an arrogant attitude. BTW, I was beginning to worry about you, old friend. -
Maybe you saw pics of the restored car or a recreation. I found pics with those items chrome and they were obviously modern photos. I found a couple original period pics where the headers looked flat white (common in those days), and others where they looked like plain unpolished steel.
