  1. Those are likely copper plated soft steel (at least the ones I have are), but regardless, they are useful.
  2. Thank you Matt! Yes, back to the current topic. Both this, and Matt's thread will be very helpful when I get to build mine.
  3. Well, that stinks! The info on their website looked very promising. How do companies like that stay in business?!
  4. J.D. Your reply to mine looks normal (as I woudl expect any reply to look like). I'm not sure what you are asking for then. Or you are asking how to spread your reply within the post you quoted? I don't think that is possible unless you quote the original post in chunks. That would be a bit of a pain to do, and not many people do that.
  5. I'm not sure, but I think you are asking how to reply to a specific post in a thread, rather than just adding your reply at the end of the thread. Simplest way is to just click on the "Quote" link on the bottom left of the post you are replying to. That will quote the text of the post you are replying and place it in the window on the bottom where you are typing in your reply. That is how I replied to your post: I clicked on the "Quote" link on the lower left of your post and as you see above, it quoted what you wrote.
  6. Has anybody tried http://www.mmmetalizing.com/index.html ? They can do vacuum metalizing, and real chrome plating on plastic with no minimum order. But I have no idea about their prices (that could be a deal killer).
  7. An Italian Cadillac! Never heard of that one before now. Except for the wheel covers it bears absolutely no resemblance to a Cadillac from any rear. Strange. I don't find it particularly attractive either (unlike Jacqueline Kennedy, whom I found extremely attractive).
  8. WOW! Very curvaceous! Interesting how the front edge of the hood follows the grille line.
  9. But, but, but . . . these are not model paints. These are simply regular automotive paints which have been packaged in modeller-friendly (read small) bottles. They are hot and they will craze polystyrene model bodies. The service all those companies provide is the small quantities of paint. When you go to have some paint mixed in a auto body supplies shop, they will nto mix 1 or 2 ounces for you. YOu usually have to buy lot more (and throw away what you don't use). Plus it will cost more.
  10. Matt, you did an awesome job on that model - the photos in the Under Glass thread are really nice. But that thread has no link to the WIP thread. Could you post a link to that too? That would be very handy (I also have this kit and will build it someday).
  11. Friend of mine owns the 1:1 vehicle. His has a similar color. He told me that when he had his repainted he used some Corvette color (I don't recall which) - it was was a close match.
  12. Yes, another of those kits just sold 3 hours ago for US $532.37. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-1978-Thunderbird-resin-kit-1-25th-Ford-T-Bird-/154264617761 As others have mentioned, few have sold over the last few months, (I have been watching the listings), but way above my price range. It's crazy! Looks like Paul Hettick has a goose that lays golden eggs on his hands. Good for him! Maybe some day one will show up where I can actually find one in my price range,
  13. Well not quite. If eBay (sellers) will no longer allow PayPal as a method of payment, that affects me as a buyer too. I might stop using eBay too. It makes no sense to eBay to exclude PayPal.
  14. I use PayPal for much more than eBay payments. I receive and send money from private individuals. I also use it for payment (using my credit card) at many online merchants websites. I noticed that more and more online merchants have a PayPal option instead of leaving my credit card info on each website. I welcome that. I will use PayPal on eBay for as long as I can. I somehow can't see eBay stopping allowing buyers from using PayPal to pay the sellers. That makes no sense. Maybe eBay will no longer use PayPal just as a method for sellers to pay their eBay seller fees?
  15. The publication discussed in this thread is a special issue (outside of the normal FSM publication schedule). Kalmbach publishes several magazines, and they publish occasional special issues for other magazines too. Model Railroader is another magazine they publish. They publish special issues related to it too (like Great Model Railroads, which features stories on some really nice model train layouts). And if you forgot already, they also used to do Scale Auto Contest Annual (later changed to Contest Cars). Tha tis another example of a special issue Kalmbach publishes. Not sure why so many people have their knickers in a twist about this.
  16. I wasn't implying to lock the thread, but I do find it pointless to endlessly compare appearance of cars from the same time period (because large percentage will look similar). But I do like what Scott did: vintage Edsel nose compared to modern Alfa. Cute! Your game proposal sounds interesting too.
  17. These comparisons can go on forever and the point has already been made. Car designers all follow general trends, and the human eye can find commonalities, even if they seem a bit far fetched. Even in the days of horse and buggy, most of those vehicles looked very similar.
  18. Yes Pete, there are lots of knives out there and which are chosen is a matter of personal preference (or sometimes just by random chance). That fat handle looks interesting. Here are few more examples of scalpels that don't lose blades or roll off the table. One of our model club members used to work for a medical supply company. When things like rubber gloves or disposable scalpels expired (yes, even scalpels have expiration dates), he used to bring them to the meetings for the members to grab. I grabbed few disposable scalpels and made a custom one for BMF work. It is the green one. I reworked the blade end to be able to replace the blades (normally the blade is permanently installed), and I also shortened the handle a bit. Plastic handle is very light, so it is easy to go very easy while trimming BMF. I also painted the tip wit black Sharpie to better see where I cut the shiny foil. The blue one is another disposable scalpel I grabbed a the meeting. I have not tried using it yet.
  19. It takes a lot of talent to scratch-build a model like that. Very impressive and beautiful. Marzal has always been on the top list of my favorite cars.
  20. I have an old blade blue X-ACTO handle that has a cam-like action lever on the back end to lock the blade. No screwing at all. You could also graduate to using scalpels. Those use different blade attaching method and are sharper than hobby knives. And #11 blade is smaller than the hobby version. Generally scalpels give you more precise control (since they are designed for more precise cutting). The black handle is like someone mentioned earlier - the tightening knob is at the top end.
  21. That's sad. She was my favorite on Gilligan's Island. She was super cute and very shapely. She did some commercials for MeTV couple years back, and she still looked pretty good for her age. According to online info, she had some problems later in her life, but was handling them. Too bad she is gone.
  22. They sure are spoiled rotten! But they are both smart, lovable and affectionate pups (except the chihuahua is very yappy and a bit crazy). I'm glad you found some new food - I hope your dog will like it. There are lots of of different dog foods out there - pet support is is a giant industry. Not like in the old days where you had Alpo, few other brands, and table scraps..
  23. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying or asking for. Are you asking what the weekend modelers buy when we spy them at a local hobby shop? Are you asking what we (I) buy in my local well stocked hobby shop? Are you asking what type of models that local hobby shop carries?
  24. Well done Kurt! I was eyeing some of Fernando's kits on eBay. At least I now know what it takes to make them look really good. Lots of tweaking! I would say, even more challenging than AMT kits. But you were up to the challenge!
  25. Instead of scouring model shows for odd sizes and lengths at often inflated prices, I highly recommend http://www.componentsupplycompany.com/ They have full range of sizes and lengths of tubing available. Years ago used to buy all my tubing from Small Parts Inc., but Amazon absorbed them and trying to find specific sizes became a huge pain. Component Supply Co. is the closest to the old Small Parts Inc. I ever found.
