Corvette guys. need some advice
peteski replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I found that sentence very amusing - thanks for the chuckle! I bet that by now you didn't think anybody would notice it. -
Question on making gauge bezels
peteski replied to Duncan4114's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Replicas and Miniatures Company of Maryland used to sell a wide selection of photoetched rings. They were called Wizard-Os. But I think their supplier went out of business and they don't carry those anymore. -
Drills For Plastic (making holes!)
peteski replied to Miatatom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Those are the Tungsten Carbide PC Board drills I mentioned. I love them and because they are so brittle, I have lots of spares! -
Similar thing happened with automotive gauges in the dash. Originally they were all mechanical/electrical movements with dials and pointers. Then the digital craze hit in the early '80s and gauges were replaced by numeric or alphanumeric digital readouts. But those were difficult to decipher while driving a car. Couldn't just take a quick glance (like you do at a gauge with a dial and pointer). Your brain has to work harder deciphering and making sense of a numeric value. So the digital readouts were supplemented or replaced by digitally-controlled bar-graph displays. Those were easier to read out quickly. But then the automotive designers came around the complete circle, and most cars nowadays have analog-looking gauges (at least for most of the important basic parameters). Those gauges have dials and pointers like the original old-style gauges, but behind the scenes, they are driven by the on-board computers. They have electric movements, even if they look analog. Looks like you took the same road: dial/digital-readout/dial. I agree that choosing a pressure gauge where the full reading is close to the maximum pressure you'll be using increases the accuracy of the readout.

Thanks for the virtual trip on the famous Coney Island! Hey, is Asbury Park in NJ still around, or did it get washed away in that great hurricane few years back?

When my GF sees tarted-up examples of vehicles like that she says "sorry about your peni$"! Like you said, they are attention-cravers.

As it has been said here few times (by older folks) blame these new car designs on Millennials. Period. World is changing and we (the older folk) are having hard time adjusting. I'm in the over 50 group myself, and I'm also disliking the looks (and also all the electronic distractions inside) of many contemporary vehicles. While the self-driving cars are almost becoming a reality, all the automatic braking, line departure correction, blind spot warnings, etc., etc., etc. make many of today's drivers complacent while driving (because the car will "take care" of things while they check their email on their smart devices). That's not good. Drivers need to pay attention to their surroundings at all times. If you want to check your emails or play a game on your fablet, wait until there are true self-driving cars on the road and you don't have to pay *ANY* attention to your surroundings. Yes, I'm almost an old man yelling at clouds. I've been around long enough to earn this right.

This car has a bad case of DLO problem! https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/tag/daylight-opening/

I also thought that the "grille" looked like either FIAT or Alfa. But I had no time to do more research.

detail Pet peeve of mine!
peteski replied to Mercuryman54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If a photo is vital to the quote I just click on it,the resize it to a much smaller size. If the quote contains lots of photos I usually only leave the one which I'm addressing in my reply (also in reduced size). -
Looking for info about KAR-A-VAN logo/emblem
peteski replied to peteski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the info guys! I had a feeling that someone here would come through with some good info. But with Brad's magazine ad I have some good reference. Looks like Recreational Vans Inc. is long gone and not much info is available online. But the logo shown in that old magazine is all I need. @Lordmodelbuilder assuming it is a photo you just took of your old magazine, would it be possible to post another photo of that page? Just do a closeup of the logos themselves (you never know when I might need the other logos), and take the photo looking square at the logos if possible. That will make it easier for me to make decal artwork from them. Your original photo is taken at an angle. Thanks in advance! -
Here is a poor quality image. This would be from the '70s. I tried Google searches, but with various combinations of "KAR A VAN" (because that is all I know) all I get is info about all sorts of RVs and campers. If anybody knows what this logo is and maybe where I can get a better image of it, I would really appreciate it.

I thought that the grille looked very familiar, but I couldn't find any 3-wheel trucks from that company.

dose toys r us have model kits?
peteski replied to theraif's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
KB hobbies? Not KB Toys? I remember KB Toys stores in New England area. Smaller stores than Toys R Us or Child World. Or maybe it was KB Toys & Hobbies. The last one closed down in early 2000s. I bought few silly toys for bargain prices. I still have a singing Spongebob Squarepants in my office. -
Plastic Spoons for testing paint?
peteski replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, those are also polystyrene. But why use clear when white polystyrene spoons more closely resemble model car's body color? But if you trying to test some paint you will spray on the model car windows then clear spoons shoudl do the trick. -
A little over priced
peteski replied to Bullitt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, go to Google and int he search window type in Yen to US dollar. The converter pops right up! To save you trouble, 1 dollar is about 111 yen. -
MPC Mustang II Cobra kits
peteski replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just like the original Mustang PonyCar was based on the inexpensive Ford Falcon, Mustang II was loosely based on Ford Pinto! -

Back in the day they even carried model trains. So did Child World (if anybody remembers that long-gone store). -
Update on Scale Motorsport
peteski replied to Pete J.'s topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You can't delete, but you can edit it and maybe strike-through the original text and add the info you posted here. Or at least add a new post to that thread with the info you posted here. That makes more sense than starting several separate disjointed threads correcting the other thread. -
How can one have problems fantasizing a little? Isn't that what this thread is about?

While impressive, what I find really amazing and awe-inspiring is works of Willard Wiggan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willard_Wigan For more photos of his work just go a Google Image search using his name.

Well, that is a good news! I sure hope that he finds a buyer willing to continue his fine line of quality hobby products.
