the rover v8 fits in those like it was meant to be there. i had one of the uk chevette hs' when i was in my teens but i didn't know what it was then and destroyed it by messing about in fields. the first time it got rolled my mates dad put in a very basic cage. by the time we were finished with it there was no hope of ever restoring it as we used it on dirt bike tracks and when we landed on top of the engine after one jump it was dead. in my defence i thought it was just an old chevette and treated it as such. probably why none of the vintage club will sell me cars now,lol

whats the kit number? fujimi have decent curbsides but there are also the enthusiast versions of some kits that have high part number engines (like 50 plus on some). Theres a few builds of someof the ferraris and porsche enthusiast kits. I have afew but i've not built them yet. as for rarity, if you got it for $50 its not that rare as they sell for about 40 new, and some had a recent reissue. It may be that its an uncommon boxing and admittedly i havent seen that boxing. the builds i've seen of them are very nice. I think the same kit in the enthusiast series runs around $100 but they have better box art imo,

Needing some advice regarding employment
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Well at the moment I'm leaning towards taking the money and trying something else for a while. Having regular wages is very tempting but at the same time I've been working week on/week off at night for 4 years and its time for a change cos i miss daylight most for most of winter, and it would mean I dont spend all my time wondering what day it is today. I've not fully decided what to do employment wise but with the government support available as a newly redundant person I'd be stupid not to try my own thing for a while and see if it works out. I'm thiking that if i give it 3 or 4 months I'll know if its worthwhile in that time and wont really have lost anything on the employment front as thats when jobs are more available in my local area. -

Are there any businesses near to your home that offer free wifi? (like in aless than a couple hundred metres/lots of bananas) if there are you can signal boosters (designed for larger or older houses) that might enable you to use their internet. I'm not sure how legal this is but a vpn might help to hide your location. Its not a great solution but it might be something that could tide you over in the short term until you find a deal thats better. It shocking to me how much you guys pay for internet sevice, mine cost £300 for the full year and if i had a cell phone that does internet i could spend the year in america and still be cheaper than you guys that live there.

Needing some advice regarding employment

my work ethic is if I'm being paid to do something I'll do the best job i possibly can, whether it slow roasting meats for posh dinners or cleaning toilets, the job must be done the best i can, even if it takes longer -
Needing some advice regarding employment
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The only time I've had trouble finding a job was when my granny passed away but i really wasn't putting much effort into it then. When I quit the body shop at half past 9 one morning, I walked into a chef job at 10.15 the same day, even turning up still in my dirty overalls as I had a good reputation for my work ethic. The only reason I asked in that hotel was it was the first business in town after i walked back from the body shop. -

Needing some advice regarding employment
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm a pretty good chef and helped a previous employer get michelin starred, I'm a good cleaner that isn't satisfied unless the place looks better than when i started and i have done lots of bodyshop work but its not an option with the emphysema/copd. I can turn my hand to most jobs though but generaly I try to work alone or in small groups as i suffer badly with anxiety in larger groups. I've also been a butcher, baker (breads) worked gutting fish, farming and a few other jobs. for most of my late twenties and early 30s i had a full time job and a part time job at the same time. I have really good references too, and my current job approached me so i must be doing something right. I might see if the local guy that does 3d printed n scale train and boat parts, if i could help him out (on my dime so to speak) for a while to get more knowledge of 3d printing and maybe do something with that and vw family cars as there seems to be a gap there but i may be biased about them, lol. -
record an answer phone message saying thanks for calling but please send an email or text message instead as you are having phone problems and often the phone doesn't ring at your end. you dont want to miss important calls due to a trash service provider

Well as some of you may have read in the irked column I recently got notice that i may be made redundant. I've spoken with my bosses and said if possible I'd like to continue with my employment but can only do that if its 2 weeks work as 1 week will only pay rent and electric, and they treat us well, but since then I've been given notice of what the redundancy payment would be and its nearly 6 months wages which is a pretty good amount. I would qualify for assistance with my rent and get some extra help with electricity on top of that as well as a small payment to live on immediately if i take the redundancy. In some ways I'd like to go back to working days again as I'm sure it would help my health (I dont see sunlight for nearly 6 months so my vit d and white blood cell levels go crazy) but in other ways there the security of having the job. I dont have mortgage payments or kids to worry about so thats a non issue for me but other guys in the redundancy pool do. I've got to let them know in writing by firday so will be sending the email on thursday night. I've spoken with a previous employer that has worked in the jobcentre and citizens advice (the people that help when the jobcentre make mistakes/employment law and things of that nature) and he was helpful in some ways but not in others but gave some decent information. I just dont know what to do, my sister is keep the job and nothing else, my mum wont say one way or the other and a friend says take the money but its just not helping. I've not been in this position before as jobs usually just end with no payments (seasonal work) or i get sacked the week before i would qualify for any payment (and they expect loyalty doing that nonsense to staff). Its a big decision and I just dont know what to do, If i take the payment theres no guarentee I will find another job but if i dont that money is gone and i wouldn't even get close to that amount if it was my choice to leave. Anybody got any advice on what to do? I dont want to make the wrong decision but its a lot of money (more than I've ever had at once and i grew up poor) which would help in other areas and its enough that i could just sit back for those 6 months and relax for probably the first time in years. It would be much easier if they just decided for me but I have to make the choice and both have benefits to me but both have drawbacks. Any advice, even if its dumb would help I'm sure

I'm not even that lucky it seems. The wargaming group are very helpful as it turns out, a couple of them are on the same island so I might get them to visit and see if they can see whats wrong. It has to be some setting for the printer and annoyingly its probably just one number causing it. I've sorta offered a bribe to them by saying once i am more consistent that I'm happy to do printing for them if they have the files they want printed so hopefully that works out.

I was told it by a guy that makes parts for model trains and boats and seems to get great results. I've arranged to call him next week for advice on where i'm going wrong with my prints cos my fails are all over the place. even stuff thats worked before is failing with no settings changes. I've also got in contact with the local wargamming group to see if any of them can help too since they use resin printers too.

well that didn't work, used a new bottle of resin, rain x on the tank and reduced lift to 1mm per sec and exposure to 1.8 and this is the result. the first time the bottom of the chassis floor printed fine but went wrong above that, this time it did this. I've tried contacting anycubic support but i cant seem to get past the captcha they use before you submit the ticket.

Has anyone tried this in their 70's?
stitchdup replied to landman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I struggle with that in my 40s, lol -
i was told the water wasable resin has an issue with shrinkage. The first 32 body i printed was the water wash and the second was normal resin and it turned out better. On the first one the sides were a bit twisted and i thought it was down to me removing the supports before curing but i did the same on the second body and it didn't happen. I'm still very inexperienced so it might just be me doing something wrong still. Hot water still works to flatten or reshape parts though, I've curved some door panels for the 32 by sitting them on a cloth and pouring kettle water over them for a few seconds and then under the cold tap once shaped. It worked better than it does on styrene for me

I'm not going to let it get me down, I knew the job wasn't going to last forever as the boat has been on sale for a while now so I've been buying and trading a lot of plastic in preperation. And I have enough to keep me going for a good length of time. Once i get my final wage I'll head to the factors and get a load of paints and primers to last a while. I'm also going to get in touch with my internet service to see if I can pay 6 months in advance so that is taken care of. It'll be kinda nice not being confused by what day it is as working week on/week off at nights I have to check my phone to see what day it is, and i wont be trying to swap between days and nights every week. I think I'll ask if they need someone on standby for relief work too which might be a foot in the door when any jobs come up. And the biggest bonus is i wont have to deal with incompetant guy that cant even lift the toilet seat again so thats got me pleased

3D printers - is it worth it?
stitchdup replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For me the printer is just having the aftermarket on my bench. I like volkswagens (and the rest of their brands) and unless its an air cooled van, beetle or golf theres just not that much out there in the aftermarket unlike american cars that are pretty well catered to. Now i have the printer I can have most of them if i want for not too much money. A resin body tends to run around £50-75 but i can generally buy the file for around £7 and print it for less than £3. And theres no international postage on top either. Its not going to replace the plastic in my stash, but it will be a compliment. For example I knew I'd be printing a few audi bodies so I planned ahead and got a case of the etrons to use for interiors and chassis and I have mk6 golf which if it has been done right will take all the undies from a fujimi mk5 golf (the mk6 was just a restyle on the mk5 so the glass is all the same). I still want to customise everything to the point that the 32 I printed has been engine swapped with a file from elsewhere. It not going to replace traditional modelling for me, but hopefully it will compliment it. When it comes to doing drawing I'm firmly in the pencil and paper camp and my phone is still an old nokia cos I have a laptop and camera so why would i need that on a phone (and the battery last over a week on a full charge). Will having the printer stop me buying plastic, well the answer to that is no cos theres kits coming out I've been waiting for and I'm still going to buy them. Sure I could probably find the files and print them myself but a kit has glass and lights which the prints tend not to have, or they have all those bits as part of a one piece body so its not as simple as just printing it out so there will be some scratchbuilding and kit bashing. I guess what I'm trying to say is its more a complimentary tool rather than a replacement at least in my eyes. -
3D printers - is it worth it?
stitchdup replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I wasn't trying to put you off. Before i got the printer my only real computer experience was surfing the web and playing games. Another problem was I had nobody i go to and ask for help as all the printer folks i know used the other priter type, not resin like i have. I'm sure I'd have got going much easier if there ws someone local i could get to come and help. I also spent a little more as I wanted to print bodies as well as parts. I spent the extra for the bigger machine because i knew i wanted to do larger items so didn't see any point buying a small machine only to have to spend again later. When it works it is fantastic and in time it will save me money and gives me much more choice in building cars that were never kitted. Like i said i get more help on here than elsewhere. I've printed a pro street chassis and a hot rod kit and both of those turned out great to my eye, but at the same time other things havent turned out at all but thats user error on my part. This is the first body i printed and the damage is my own fault. The second one turned out great heres the second, altogether the full kit cost around $20 including purchasing the files. I havent even tried drawing up my own stuff. Its fought me loads but i'm starting to get the hang of it and while i have cursed the thing, I'm still pleased with it and i'm learning where i went wrong before -
a pic might help, lol
